It was okay until the author started to pretend he was God himself and put his own words into the "Lord's mouth". Then I got mad, really mad! I am not sure if I just was expecting something different, but I wasn't expecting what this book was, and that is not very helpful at all and could really hurt someone who is looking to learn more about God and Jesus. Or someone like me who was looking for a book on how to enhance their prayer experience.

The first "prayer" - to me - is not really a prayer. It's the John 3:16 verse and a VERY important verse that we should all know. But, it's not a prayer in my opinion. It's a fact. How can we pray for something that has already happened and come true? I get what the author is trying to say (that we all need to pray this verse for grace) but that just doesn't make sense to me and not what the verse is about to me.

I also don't like how the author pretends to answer a prayer the way he thinks the Lord would answer it. I think this is okay to do BUT I think he MUST preface it EACH time by saying these are NOT really the Lord's words but how the author perceives what the Lord would probably say. There are too many people who have not read the Bible who may skim through this book and think the Lord really said those things. Not good, even though done with good intentions.

In the third prayer the author says, "You are not even considered a son of God unless you learn to be led by Him." This is an utter lie and the turning point that made me no longer continue reading. EVERYONE is a son or daughter of God - even those who deny and reject Him. God created ALL of us, even those who choose to not follow Him. He will quietly plead with those people until they die to turn to Him; He will NEVER deny His children yet His children are fully capable of denying Him. True, if we never turn to Him, He may deny us when we die but this is NOT the same thing - there is a HUGE distinction in my opinion!!

Although I will admit to not fully reading after reading such a bold face lie, I did continue to skim through the rest just out of curiosity. Later in the same chapter, the author writes, "God counts it as rebellion when we don't obey His spirit, and there is a curse for it. He sees no difference between and idolatrous witch and a disobedient believer. We must take that to heart lest we be rejected. If we work our own works and think God will be pleased, we'll be so broken on the day He rejects us. So if you seek God with your own ideas, He will count it as an abomination." What? Is this guy on something? Has he EVER even read the Bible? Seriously, he continues putting his own voice and perspective and pretends he knows when and why God would reject us? REALLY!? Talk about using your own works to play God. At this point I was livid with myself for getting sucked in by another "Christian" trying to use the Bible and God to convince people his views of God are right and all others are wrong. Using fear tactics and LIES to try to get people to come to God? Really? I just want to ask the author, "What are you thinking? Did YOU pray at all and ask God if this is what HE wants you to write before publishing this? This is NOT the words a loving God would want you to write! God would want you to write a book that brings people TO Him, not away from Him." Ugh. Just sickening and I am so glad that I have a great foundation of the One True God before picking up this book.

If you are NOT a Christian already PLEASE don't read this book!! It is filled with, in my opinion, a man's opinion of how he sees God and the Bible. He is (most likely, and yes I am guessing here) "old school" Christian who is set in their ways and was taught by people who were raised to FEAR God. He is not one you should turn to unless you believe and share in trying to scare people into God. PLEASE just read the Bible for yourself and you will discover that God does NOT curse people. Yes, He will discipline us when we disobey (and yes, He does get angry at times too but He is soooo patient and it takes a LOT to get Him angry!) and just like we love it when our children obey, He loves it when we do obey. Just like when our children disobey, He still loves us anyways! But He will NEVER reject us - EVER!! No matter what we do, we can ALWAYS make our relationship with Him right. He will ALWAYS accept our apologies and He will work with us to make us better.

I have wasted enough time with this book, so I won't write anymore but I can't say it enough - do NOT read this book and please do NOT think that all Christians believe what this author believes. You are only hurting yourself if you let this foolishness in your head.

The Seven Most Powerful Prayers That Will Change Your Life Forever by Adam Houge. I received a free copy of this e-book for review.

To purchase this book: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C...

The book format lists a scripture supporting a prayer, the prayer itself & the imagined response FROM God to the prayer.

The introduction mentions that God is a loving God who looks for ways to be part of your life. He calls for us to seek Him. One of the best ways of doing so is through prayer.

What I hoped to find in this book was what the title suggests: The Seven Most Powerful Prayers That Will Change Your Life Forever. The author calls these prayers a study & a devotion.

A quote with which I disagree: "God doesn't always answer every prayer, but there are some thing {sic} He will always answer."

I believe God answers every prayer. Sometimes He says "No!" Sometimes he says He says "Yes." Sometimes He says "Wait." Sometimes He says, "I have something better in mind for you." We may not LIKE the answers God gives us but He does answer.

The author goes on to say "These prayers may not be for everyone. If you already know these steps, then they have already changed your life, and you can attest to that. Also if you are not willing to pray them in faith, they will do nothing for you. God requires us to have a heart of faith, and answers our prayers according to our faith."

I'm blessed to already have a strong daily relationship with God in my life with heart-felt faithful prayers.

Location 66 minor editorial change needed "their" should be 'they're'.

Prayer One is to ask for forgiveness & help. Devoting your life to God.

Prayer Two calls for us to abide. "There are three general ways to abide, and usually God calls you to be doing one of the three at all times during the day.

1) Worshipping
2) Praying
3) Reading and Meditating on the Scriptures

"When we worship we aim our praise directly at God. He responds to our adoration, by announcing His presence. He makes Himself apparent and we 'feel' His presence while we worship."

Prayer Three Being Led by the Spirit. Show me Your way & light my path.

Location 230 minor editorial correction "If you're not being led by His" should be 'Him".

Being led by the Spirit (by God) we need to be familiar with His Voice. That comes through worship, prayer, reading & meditating on the Scriptures as shown in Prayer two.

Location 284 three minor editorial corrections: "The never could before" should be 'They'. "How than" should be 'then'. "when 'it' because of our" should be it's.

Prayer Four is called 'Seeking Truth'. I found it seeking unity over doctrine. Yet there's a LOT of doctrinal teaching there.

Prayer Five Walking in Love

Committing self to be of service to others with kindness. Good examples given of what that looks like in real life.

Prayer Six Seasoning Our Words with Salt.

We need to choose words that heal & are kind.

"For example, when we sin we start to beat ourselves up over our failures. God doesn't call us to negative self-speech, but to glorify Him."

A discouraged heart & soul can lead to self-condemnation. We also need to apply kindness to our own self-talk.

"The hardest time to say something that turns another back to the Lord is during an argument. We get heated and easily tempted to say something we don't mean. Perhaps in our anger for the moment we mean what we say. But when we start thinking more rationally, we realize that's not our heart at all. So we end up regretting our words."

We need to cool off & curb our anger then return to speak when we are sober minded.

Part of the prayer is: "Bring holiness to my mouth. Give me words that heal and bring peace. Be my strength in my weaknesses, I commit myself to You." That is a powerful prayer & could be life altering.

Prayer Seven Continual Devotion.

Our lives can grind us down & leave us feeling overwhelmed. That is why we need to give attention to God in the morning, during the day & every night. That is where we can be renewed.

I gave this book a three star rating because of the amount of doctrine instead of prayer in the Fourth Prayer. This, I believe detracts from the purpose of this book.

I recommend it only for someone who is already Christian with at least a fledgling prayer life.

This book was not what I thought it would be. God was portrayed as a rude, selfish, somewhat pervy person. I personally don't believe in God and this made me even less willing to believe. I found it very rude and condescending. I would not suggest it to anyone who talks about anything, but God. This was more set into my mind when the author said that unless we were talking about God we were sinning. I'm sorry. I don't find talking about the weather without mentioning God as a sin...

Disappointed Expectations

I did expect greatness from a book with a title that promises to change my life forever. Unfortunately, it appears to be shallow and very simple. I missed the part to which another reviewer referred, writing that the author claimed to be God, but with such expectation that greatness appears to have ended in the title.

simple read. I found the book to be a little generic. did not pique my interest. not deep. not thought-provoking. didn't notice if there were any doctrinal issues because the book didn't capture my attention. a good book to read if you are in a reading contest and you are looking for something short and simple.

Encouraging Prayers!

Love to read Adam's books. So much in depths of the word and most importantly, truth. We seem to get caught up with many other things that we forget what we were created for and I'm the first one to raise my hand and say I am at fault for doing it. Paul was such a role model, and obedience is the key. Jesus is the original pattern we must follow. Not easy to do but at least get as close as possible. In the end, God's parachute (Mercy and Grace) will always be there as long as we don't take advantage of it. Thank you Adam for letting God use you the way He does!

⭐️⭐️Recommmended⭐️⭐️

I love Adam Houge’s devotionals! I have many of them that I use on a continual daily basis. Altho I don’t have room to have a secret place, I have a set of mufflers and I sit in my bed and pray that way. My family knows I’m praying so they pretty much leave me alone.
Adam amazes me with all the different scriptures he comes up with and how he seems to understand exactly what I’m looking for. I highly recommend this book.

Thank you, Adam.

An Eye Opening Experience!

This book was a good experience for me. There are parts that caused me to stop and ponder what I had read and how the application thereof could make a difference in my life.

I recommend this book to individuals whom are looking for a closer relationship with God. And, when you approach this reading with an open heart and mind, seeking the heart of God, you shall find it.

Short and a very quick read. Had good thought provoking scripture insight. Was not a fan of Gods prayer back to me section.... perhaps if that was directly from scripture I would have felt differently but it was the Authors words as God. Other than that it was a good reminder to stay in Gods word and study it daily.

Nothing new....A good book for some....won't offer help for others, and will definitely not cause change or revelation or inspiration to those who are looking for answers.

But certainly worth the $.99 if you just want one man's thoughts on biblical passages outside of a Sunday sermon.

The read revolves around the most important verse on the bible and the suitable prayers to accompany the verse and the spread of His words. I like the prayers and even though, it's way too religious for me, it's still touched at my soul
