Great readable book about well, the human body and how we move. It covers a lot of anatomy and physiology as well as aerobic and strength work. What is nice is to read very accurately what is happening in the body during aerobic and anaerobic work, what happens to muscles after strength etc... It would be nice for people who get suckered into a lot fitness hype to read, so they understand that what happens and why.
It also covers various other situations in the field of kinesiology -specifically the increase of diseases due to lack of fitness in the population, to the psychology of why some people move and others don't. Clear writing on the subject. Gives enough to certainly prepare you for more detailed books.
At the beginning of the book, the authors make some (foolish) assumptions about who the reader of Kinesiology for Dummies might be: i) an avid exerciser, ii) a budding kinesiology student, and iii) a coach or personal trainer. I belong to all three categories and the authors were right. Kinesiology for Dummies is really good. I have recently finished Exercise Physiology by McArdle, Katch & Katch, so it might be counter-intuitive to go back to the basic level. However, it was refreshing to read simple explanations, re-examine some areas that I still have not fully embraced, and still manage to learn a few things. It is also fantastic how, when my son asks me a question and I hesitate (since all my answers seem either too complicated or out of reach), Kinesiology for Dummies provides an easy, comprehensible explanation. A good reference point for all my future learning.

Good summary and a useful supplement to training and coaching. Personally I was hoping for a little more specifics on athletics and competition, but that's just me.
