Brightling Becoming

Missing Amanda

Rate this book
That night, I dreamt of Amanda. She walked into my cabin, closed the door, leaned against it, and stood considering me with one hand tucked into the pocket of her baggy jeans. “Come here,” she whispered. I rose and went to her. She pulled me into her arms and placed her lips softly on mine.
Drawing back, she gazed into my eyes. I leaned forward, and she moved back again. “Kate, what do you want?” she asked. Her voice was filled with urgency and confusion, and I couldn’t understand how she could be confused. The answer was the same as it had always been and always would be.
“You.”
“Are you sure?”
“Always.” I pressed against her, and she brought her lips to mine with that feather lightness that made me crazy. The tip of her tongue touched my upper lip. I tried to grasp it between my lips, but she drew back again.
“Wait, Kate,” she said. “Don’t rush. There’s no hurry.”
But I knew we had to hurry. Time was slipping away, and I knew there wasn’t enough. Not for this. Not for us. “Please,” I begged.

Kate has rescued her long believed dead father from Frost’s cellar, and they have escaped to the forests of Rozanwood, The Robyn’s home. There, she discovers a community of Brightlings that have been waiting on Amanda and her for years, but Kate has arrived without her soul mate, and according to the Brightlings, she isn’t whole without Amanda. As Kate trains her body and mind for the long expected war, she vacillates between hatred of Amanda, rage at Amanda, and sorrow over her loss of Amanda.
Will the darkness encompass Kate, or will she walk into the light of the Brightlings?

Elizabeth Fry
The observer in me has always been fascinated with the things I don’t see with my eyes. I decided to make a living from it. I write fantasy fiction that allows others to see the great colorful movies that stream constantly across the eye of my mind. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Elizabeth Fry graduated college from University of Missouri in St. Louis with a degree in Secondary Education in English. Following graduation, she joined the teaching field as a teacher for students in At-Risk situations.
Her current book of short stories, The Beastliness of Beauty - A Collection of Pieces and Parts, includes stories ranging from a mythical file room that keeps track of each person's emotional life to the trauma suffered by a small child who witnesses her father's death.

Kissing Amanda, Book One of the Brightling Becoming series, is a fantasy/romance about two lesbians who meet in college, fall in love and fight against the Darklings for the good of mankind.

Elizabeth currently lives in Troy, Missouri, with her partner, Amanda.

Elizabeth is the youngest of nine children, and was born in Chicago, Illinois, during the blizzard of 1966, and, as a result, adores snow. She jokes that her family puts the "funk" in dysfunction, and she loves hanging out with them. Writing from a young age, her siblings and Mother were not only her first audience, but her first characters. At nine, she created a comic strip starring her older brother and herself to convince her mother being babysat by the family dog would be a more acceptable alternative than her big brother. The comic strip was a dismal failure as her mother continued to go to work. Despite being left in the precarious care of her siblings, she counts them, her three daughters, and the entire gang's passel of children as her best and closest friends. This gang, if found, will likely be gyrating and dancing erratically while attempting to harmonize to great music. Do not attempt to stop them -- just join in.

Best #2(book) Ever

I couldn't put it down! everything that happens can not possiblely be predicted. Every page is a new surprise. the description of everything is so clear that I felt like I was next to Kate the whole time(wanting to slap her for being a stubborn, selfish ass). I can't wait for the third to come out! waiting is going to kill me...Now I know how those Harry Potter and Twilight fans felt, waiting anxiously for each new book.

Last week I had the privilege of reading E. A. Fry's Kissing Amanda and while I enjoyed it there were some aspects that left me feeling like I....well needed more and more is what I got with Missing Amanda. The story continues with our two heroines separated due to circumstances that leave Kate feeling as though Amanda has betrayed her. I still find Kate to be a whiny primadonna, but part 2 of the Brightling Becoming series gave me a better understanding of where she is coming from so I was able to deal with my irritations with her better.
In Missing Amanda, we are introduced to the world of Rozanwood where Kate finds herself surrounded by Brightlings all of whom know her and what her roll in the war between the Brightlings and the Darklings, but yet none are allowed to tell her what is to be done. She must find out for herself. Part of this path to revelation is Kate beginning her training as a Brightling, which does not start off well. Eventually, Kate realizes, at least, part of what she needs to do and so she sets out, with some assistance from some new friends, to start her quest.
As I stated above, I had some issues with Kissing Amanda but when combined with Missing Amanda the problems I had nearly entirely disappeared. That being said, the rating I will be giving Missing Amanda will be WITH Kissing Amanda as the first 2 parts of a series. I am not sure when part 3 of the Brightling Becoming series will be available, but I now that I have read books 1 & 2 I am looking forward to reading book 3 and I feel those who enjoy dark fantasy will enjoy this series, as well.
