Is your enthusiasm for life sagging? Do you feel stuck in a way of living that used to bring joy but now fails to deliver?
Here is a practical guide to restore the curiosity, passion, and fulfillment that naturally arise as you find the courage to slow down and listen to your feelings.
Ridiculously OK mixes ancient wisdom, personal stories, and modern-day awareness to explore the tendency we have to hold tightly to what has worked in the past, but now holds us back from making long-yearned-for changes. Looking through the lens of letting go, this book provides insights that will help you get crystal clear about what is blocking your personal growth and genuine happiness. Its message is a call to honestly listen to your heart and find the courage to face your fears with compassion, build nourishing relationships, and create a life you love.
York is the co-founder of Sol Power Yoga and a physics professor. He loves to practice yoga, travel, and hike. He also loves learning Spanish, surfing, playing board games, and, of course, writing.
York is pretty rusty at piano, saxophone, and guitar now, but has been known to make some noise with these at Christmas time. He has qualified for, but not yet run, the Boston Marathon. He currently teaches yoga and meditation to university clubs and provides private lessons to neighbors and friends.
Originally from the East Coast, he now lives in the Rocky Mountain West with his wife of thirty years, Jayne. Together they are working toward living abroad.
I gave this book a 4.5/5. This is a self-help book in which the author discusses challenges that we face as a result of how we view ourselves and the world. This book gave me a lot to think about and I will be implementing a good amount of what he said into my life. I really appreciate the author's vulnerability and his nuanced approach to dealing with difficult feelings. There are times where the sentences were a little awkward/hard to read and I had to re-read sentences several times to understand what the author was trying to say, which is why I knocked down the rating by half a star. I'm not sure if this issue is a reflection of his writing style or of my reading comprehension skills. Despite that, I still really enjoyed the book and I know that I will be re-reading it.
