As someone who is new to the fantasy world of reading, this book hits differently for me. The writing style makes it easy to immerse yourself in the story. I truly felt the emotions and related on so many levels to the story. Evie’s story isn’t a light and fluffy one, but one of trauma, healing and self discovery with so much to admire.
Looking forward to the next book in the KOR series. This first book leaves you hungry for more!

If you’re looking for a powerful plus-sized FMC, THEN THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT. Does Evie start out not knowing how beautiful or powerful she is? Absolutely, but is there a hottie MMC who helps her discover herself, and a supportive BFF who never lets her forget her worth? You fucking bet!! There’s witches and shifters, and magic and bad guys 😬 found family, friends to lovers, discovering magic, and more that I don’t want to spoil 🤣
I personally cannot fucking wait for book 2 and this one isn’t even officially released yet!

I absolutely love when a character is written so beautifully that you feel every emotion right with them throughout the book.
Evie is so relatable (apart from the magic piece). Her trauma, her response to said trauma, the way she loves those around her, how hard she has to fight to be the person she knows she can be. A beautiful character and I’m so happy to have found her.
NOW DADDY NYX ON THE OTHER HAND…WHAT A MAN!!!! But in all honesty, another beautifully written MMC who shows up for his love and is willing to jump into the depths of darkness to help bring her to the surface and see what she deserves. These characters have my heart!

If you’re looking for a badass FMC discovering her strength, worth and power, then Evie is the woman for you!
I love Evie’s growth as she discovers who she truly is and what she is capable of achieving in order to fulfill her destiny.
(I won’t give it away, but it’s amazing to experience a woman rising like a phoenix from the ashes of her pain and trauma!)
I am a total sucker for an overprotective MMC who would die for his love, and Nyx does not disappoint. I enjoy Evie and Nyx’s love and adventures as Evie makes her way to face her fate and free her land and people from the tyranny of an evil king! While slow with character building in the beginning, this book definitely starts to heat up and will leave you wanting the next installment to know what happens next!

CA Burkhart’s debut novel keeps you on your toes as you follow Evie’s journey as she discovers herself and her powers as a witch. With a cliff hanger ending, there are many questions to be answered in book two of the series.
While I appreciate the content warning in the beginning of the book, the depth of the trauma suffered by the main characters was greater than anticipated and glossed over in a few pages.
The Kingdom of Rinnia created in the story comes to life with lush descriptions. However, the prevalence of grammatical errors(such as switching tenses in the middle of a sentence and odd word choices) were distracting.

I received an arc copy in return for an honest review! I was so happy to see the transformation of the main character, Evie throughout her journey to finding herself and her familial history. The quest she has started feels as if she has just begun and the cliff hanger ending means I’ll be left wondering for a while! The book has me currently skeptical of almost every character meaning that while it is a fantasy book, much of it reads like a mystery. A blast to read and can’t wait to see the rest of this series takes us!

This book had me hooked from the beginning! I absolutely fell in love with these characters. This story is raw, romantic, captivating, and more. It doesn’t hide from real issues and shows Evie’s journey of trauma and healing. The world is magical and beautiful. I absolutely cannot wait for the next development in this series! I will recommend this book to everyone!!

A great debut novel from C.A. Burkhart! Evie enters her journey of self discovery with the help her friends and it's filled with action, humor, and a bit of spice! I was hoping for a little bit more knowledge of the world and the history in some of the scenes, but I'm sure we'll learn more in the future. I was easily hooked and can't wait to read what comes next!

The book started off well. I really liked that Evie is a plus-size protagonist and a witch who is just discovering her powers. But as a plus-size woman myself, I often felt a bit mocked. On the one hand, Evie has many of the negative traits and thoughts often associated with being overweight, but on the other hand, she also possesses all the physical abilities of a slim, athletic person. She manages multi-day hikes without much effort and becomes a skilled sword fighter within just a few weeks. From about the middle of the book on, her body suddenly stops being relevant, which would be okay, but it got unrealistic instead.
The story was catchy, but the plot had some gaps and otherwise things progressed too quickly at times. It felt like the author was trying to do too much and please everyone. In the one spicy scene, it seemed like every sex position in the world was tried out — some of which felt pretty unrealistic, especially for a plus-size or even a mid-size body.
The setting in a pseudo-medieval fantasy world was cozy, but at times over the top: King’s Guard, dragons, a mystical river ghost, demonic forest creatures, werewolves, witch hunters, what else will come next?
The language was simple and easy to read, but also a bit clunky and awkward at times.
All in all, a solid read, but yet i don’t know, if i would read the upcoming book.

This book was an epic adventure with multiple arcs, and great character dynamics! You truly get to know and love quite a few characters, and the twists keep you on your toes! I would recommend this book 1000 times over, and I cannot wait for the next installment of the series! Amazing job, CA Burkhart!

Great character development. Sorry I just hate cliffhangers. It is nothing against the story at ALL!!! I just hate being left without a finish.
I believe for a debut novel this is an amazing start to what I hope is a long journey. I look forward to book 2.

Awakened Under the Blood Moon was the perfect blend of suspense and thrill. I simply could not put it down. It was written in a way that as a reader, you can vividly picture every detail and scene. I can not wait for the next book in the series and all of my remaining questions to be answered!

I really enjoyed this book! Lots of twists and a cliffhanger that has made me super excited for the next book! I like the build-up to the series, and the book kept me wanting to read more. Can't wait for book two!

I liked the plot, and what happened to Genevieve was really sad 😢 — I felt SO BAD for her. But overall, I just couldn’t connect with the characters.
The story had potential, but I honestly got so bored I started falling asleep 😴 So unfortunately, it’s a DNF for me.

I have never been interested in fantasy but was given the opportunity to read this and I am HOOKED. I really enjoyed the evolution of Evie and can't wait to see how much more she grows in future books. I have a bunch of unresolved questions that I hope will be answered down the road. C.A. Burkhart definitely came in HOT with this book! I can't wait for book two!
