Some people have the next 20 years of their life scheduled.
You know the kind, don’t you? Top-of-the-class, ahead-of-the-curve, better-than-you-in-every-conceivable-way? Well, these people have a motto – WWKD.
If you don’t know the shorthand, it stands for What Would Kristin Do?
Kristin Kakes is a high-school sophomore who might rule the world someday, but that’s only if she settles. Her life has been an unbroken succession of perfect choices and perfect timing, all of it driven by an iron will that bullies other lesser forces of Nature like hurricanes.
People like Kristin need a foil, and Tommy Amsterdam is all of that. Tommy doesn’t know where he’ll be in 20 minutes let alone 20 years. Taking things as they come is a mantra he wants to tattoo on his forehead one day, he just hasn’t gotten around to it yet.
Typically, opposites of this caliber repel each other like large plaid and thin stripes, but Tommy has access to something called a pocket hole. Pocket holes grant access to a magical world where you can get what you need if you complete a simple quest. For Kristin, on a day when nothing goes her way, Tommy’s promise of adventure seems like her golden ticket, because Kristin knows exactly what she needs.
This seems to be for the book Pocket Hole, this is about the comic book/ graphic novel, whatever you want to call it. I couldn't seem to find that though, so here goes! I really enjoyed Pocket Hole, it had a great intriguing idea, the art was really fun (loved the coloring), and there were some really fun bizarre characters. The pacing is kinda fast, it just jumps in without explaining, well, anything really. It works for the most part, you, like the main character are just jumping into this world unprepared without any idea what's going on. It works really well for the other character Tommy, he's really cool and mysterious. But I wish we could know a bit more about what's going on with the main character, because she seems to be taking this jumping into another world thing reallly well. Anyways, an entertaining read with some amazing visuals and some good jokes. I'm really looking forward to reading the book and seeing what that's like, also seeing how it ends would be nice lol.
I received this book for free as part of a goodreads giveaway. It took me a little bit to get into this story, but I was glad that I kept reading. The story is light, and feels almost like a novella or short story, with the entire book only encompassing a few hours. However, it is an experience similar to Alice in Wonderland, where the reader is left wondering just what will happen next. I do with that the story had continued on a little bit more, I would have enjoyed learning more about what happened after coming out of the pocket hole. I was left with so many questions that I felt like more story would have easily been able to clear up. Like, what happened when Tommy lost? and what will happen between Kristin and Tommy now? will Kristin change some of her stiff behavior? Perhaps there will be a sequel or something that will fill me in on these holes that I’m struggling with.
This book is filled with quirky adventure and I enjoyed every moment of it! I was smiling or laughing at least twice per page as I went. The entire book I was thinking: Scott Pilgrim meets Adventure Time and it was awesome. It is fast paced, engaging, and the character development was wonderful, especially for such a short work. I really hope there will me more books to come because I can't stand not knowing more about Kristin and Tommy, as well as the weird Pocket Hole world. I also loved the graphic novel that C.K. Edwards and A.J. Bell created together, which depicts the first half of this book, I think it is the perfect story to be put into graphic novel form.
