After Robert Wacaster’s recent spells in more romantic genres he returns with the tidy detective novel Las Vegas Investigator: The Art of Violence.
This time Wacaster blends the no-nonsense quick-fire sarcasm that he used in Frigate: November( to good effect ) with occasional bursts of brutality to more tender moments of his more recent romantic works.
“Look, Mrs. Baker….Ellen, I’ve got a lot on my mind at the moment, okay? I don’t really have time to be seduced today…..”
The story starts when the close friend of the private investigator Matt is suddenly found shot. After his friend slips into a coma, Matt who is more used to gathering evidence for adultery cases becomes often irrationally embroiled into what proves to become an increasingly dark and violent trail in his drive to piece together what his friend had become mixed up in and take personal revenge.
A fast moving thriller for adults. Five stars.
“The bad guys wanted a war and Matt was going to give them one.”
