A heartwarming holiday delight for readers looking for some small-town, sweet romance this Christmas.
This is a quick read and the only reason I didn’t DNF, though I should have. This has potential to be better if a lot more editing is done. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were depicted twice like the author had two options and forgot to remove a set. This is not including what occurs in the last chapter. Work on the repetition is needed as well. If you’re looking for something fast and sweet with no spice this may work for you.
I don't know what to say... this was poorly written. The idea is good, but it wasn't well developed. The emotions fluctuate without reason; one chapter shows the characters madly in love, while the next has the guy hating everything again. There’s no backstory explaining how they got together. Two people who barely see each other at work decide to date for no apparent reason -just because. There is a lack of depth in the characters and the story itself; everything feels rushed. Some chapters focus on just one date, while others barely cover 2-3 dates. The editing was so poor that they had their first kiss twice! I lost track of the dates, but I'm almost certain the promised twelve dates weren't fully described. I believe that an additional 50 pages could have made a difference.
Despite my frustrations, I think the author missed a significant opportunity to use the "Twelve Days of Christmas" carol as a framework. A structure of 14-15 chapters could have worked well: one introduction chapter, twelve chapters for the dates, one conclusion chapter, and possibly an epilogue, provided they were better developed.
Again, the idea is good enough, so I'm rating it 2 stars. It could have been much worse.
The relationship between the main characters changed way to fast. As if the author couldn't decided if they were rivals to lovers or instant love. He was grumpy for one date, talked to his grandma and decided to have a whole personality change. We got a decent backstory for the MMC, considering the length of the story, but nothing for the FMC. And there was a major editing issue where there were 2 Christmases. While busy with a huge project at work He took a few days off to take her to a cabin over Christmas. And then they were going on Christmas dates again and had another Christmas day. This book was a rough draft at best. The story was clean and cute but I wouldn't spend money on this book, it's sloppy and unfinished. I'm not mad because I got the book for free from a "stuff your kindle" event, but I'm deleting this off my kindle because it's not worth the space and I will not be re-reading it next December. I will say, I liked the dates where they stayed in, to bake cookies for example. Those were pretty cute. This could have been a really cute book but it needed to be longer to get to know the characters and for their relationship to develope.
I did the audiobook and while the story was cute I HATE virtual voice. The emphasis are always off and this one sounds extra fake. If I was just rating it based on that I would give it a one. I wish authors would spend a little money and have a professional reader.
This was so cheesy, made no sense often, and the timeline was so out of sync. Jessica was so flat and Matt was Jekyll and Hyde. This was so bad that I permanently deleted it from my library.
While the story wasn’t amazing, it also wasn’t bad—it fell somewhere in the middle for me. I felt it lacked cohesion at times, with some plot points jumping too quickly from one thought to another, almost as if it needed an extra 100 pages to fully develop the narrative and characters.
I also found the cover a bit misleading; it didn’t quite align with the story’s tone or content, which was a little confusing.
That said, the premise is cute, and the idea of 12 Christmas-themed dates has its charm. It’s a light read for those who enjoy small-town holiday romances and heartwarming moments with a festive backdrop.
