„Krill“ von Brandon Q Morris
Dieser Hard Science Fiction Roman spielt sich im „Eismond-Universum“ (beginnt mit der Eismond Trilogie: absolute Leseempfehlung) ab, allerdings noch vor den Ereignissen auf dem Eismond Enceladus. Man kann diesen Roman auch ohne die anderen Bücher für sich alleine lesen. Die Geschichte ist in sich abgeschlossen und die Szenerie ist dieses Mal unser Planet Erde, genauer gesagt, das Meeresgebiet rund um die Antarktis.
Es gibt 2 Handlungsstränge, die sich am Ende zusammenfügen:
1. Die Meeresbiologin Isabella Ramírez untersucht auf dem Kreuzfahrtschiff „Geiranger“ Krill, dabei stoßen sie und ihre Praktikantin auf ungewöhnliche Verhaltensweisen, die sie sich nicht erklären können. Es stellt sich heraus, dass es zu Manipulationen im Genom des Krill gekommen ist, ein FOGC Agent wird ihr zugeteilt und sie verfolgen die Spur der Herkunft des veränderten Krill.
2. Der Programmierer Bavin Joshi, wird für den Absturz der Forschungssonde Gex (Ganymed Explorer) auf dem Jupitermond Ganymed verantwortlich gemacht, es scheint eine großangelegte Vertuschungsaktion im Gange zu sein. Bavin kann fliehen und sucht sich Hilfe im Green Bank Observatorium (dort treffen Eismond Leser einen alten Bekannten wieder). Sie machen eine merkwürdige Entdeckung, offenbar sendet Gex noch, obwohl die Sonde angeblich zerstört wurde, hinzukommt, die Sonde sendet nicht irgendwo hin, sondern irgendwo Richtung Südpazifik. Sie beschließen der Sache auf den Grund zu gehen.
3. Es kommt zum Showdown als sich die beiden Handlungsstränge treffen.
Im Anschluss an die Story gibt es ein Exposé über den Krill, Anatomie, Lebensweise, sein Wert im Ökosystem und für das Gleichgewicht der Erde. So sind erfahrene Brandon Q Morris Leser es von ihm gewohnt.
Mir hat dieses Buch wieder sehr gefallen, witzig fand ich auch, dass er sich selbst als Nebenprotagonist erwähnt hat, das macht er gelegentlich und ich muss darüber immer etwas schmunzeln. Auch fand ich prima, dass Bekannte Charaktere mit einbezogen wurden.
Jetzt, nachdem ich 30 Bücher von dem Autor gelesen habe, glaube ich, ich hätte Buch führen sollen über jegliche Charaktere, Zeit, Beruf und Bedeutung 😅.

How are the probe sent to Ganymede and the krill connected?
A probe is sent to Ganymede and is lost. It was programmed by Gabin and he is 'scapegoated' as the cause of the loss, but he wants to know why the probe was lost and he is now being hunted....
Meanwhile Isabella is performing research on a cruise ship, when she finds that the krill are becoming more aggressive. When she runs a DNA scan, a message is sent saying artificial DNA has been detected leading to a government investigation....
The story unfolds as Gabin and Isabella continue in their search for the truth until eventually they will meet....!
There is intrigue, suspense, genetic manipulation, messages from space, kidnapping, and much more in this entertaining and thought-provoking tale.

Was really willing to buy into the book right up to the quick wrapping up of the book. The idea of having the book continue in a prolog was a bit interesting to wrap up the loose ends but the core writing should have also had a proper / satisfying ending.

Con el rigor científico al que nos tiene acostumbrados, Brandon Q. Morris nos presenta una historia que gira alrededor de un pequeño organismo modificado genéticamente. Protagonistas empáticos, hilo argumental coherente y hasta un sabio loco incuído. Divertido y absorbente, lo disfrutarán sin duda. ¡Ah! Y una historia autoconclusiva, sin las segundas y terceras partes que suele darnos el autor.

Gut geschriebene spannende Geschichte. Allerdings ist der Bezug zu Raumfahrt ein wenig an den Haaren herbei gezogen.
