Bounce: A Dark Fairytale Retelling

Rate this book
In Wonderland, you have to know your place. It's the hottest strip club in town because we all know the parts we have to play.

Take me, for instance. I'm Derek - D for short. They say I'm "Director of Security," but I don't put stock in fancy titles. I'm a bouncer. The meat. The muscle. You start something in the club, touch the girls, act a fool, and I bounce you out the door. Simple as that.

Alice, though... She wasn't going to stay in her lane for love or money.

She was the new girl at the club, the perfect package of platinum desire and conniving greed. She snagged the owner's attention first, then slept with or ran over whomever she needed to get to the top of the heap. Her end goal? Club headliner. And to do that, the current headliner had to go.

That was Scarlett. I'd been carrying a torch for her for years. She was everything I'd ever wanted, but she wouldn't mix business with pleasure. She also didn't see the danger that was the new girl until it was too late.

Good thing for her, I did.

Each book in the Wonderland After Dark series takes a classic fairytale and twists it into a depraved retelling. "Bounce" reimagines Lewis Carroll's classic Through the Looking Glass as a dark crime tale with Wonderland as a strip club and Alice as the new girl hell-bent upon becoming queen bee.

Bounce takes Lewis Carroll's classic Through the Looking Glass and twists it into something erotic, mysterious, and enticing.

Though short, this book was not lacking for anything. The characters were entirely developed, and I found them all to elicit some form of emotion from me. Some love, some a bit of loathing and even one or two a bit of empathy. And the bit of mystery here helped me get entirely invested even before I really knew where this story was going.

I am looking forward to reading more books from Logan, especially those in the Wonderland After Dark series.

This was a kindle freebie that I'd had in my kindle for ages, and I finally read it. It was pretty decent, though I'm rather new to erotica and so it wasn't quite my cup of tea. The characters were believable, but the story felt a bit too short and could have been a little more fleshed out. Overall, not bad, though. Four out of five spice 🌶️. 3.5 ⭐

I came across this book as a self rec from Logan Black on a FB group. It’s rare to find books with female villains so I jumped at the chance to read it. I also love fairy tale retellings!
I can honestly say I’ve read maybe a handful of dark/ romance books by a male author.

I gave Bounce 5 stars because this is a book I will recommend and also reread.
Alice, our villainous FMC, is well written.
Her character has power, she’s feisty and very confident. I wanted to like her for those reasons (girl Power and all) but then her true self came out and I loved to despise her.
Derek, our bouncer, is loyal and not a push over. I was scared Alice was going to whip out her 🐈‍⬛ and he was going to be putty in her hands, which I think would’ve had me not wanting to continue, but his response was so well played.
I loved Wonderland being a strip club. I loved the attention to detail the author gave when describing the music, lights and performances within it.

This is a slow burn, believe it or not, but for a girl who likes her spice I didn’t mind at all. When it did happen it hit all the right spots!! 😉

Logan Black’s Bounce offers a gritty, provocative reimagining of Through the Looking Glass, transforming Wonderland into a strip club where ambition, power, and desire collide. The parallels to Lewis Carroll’s classic are clever, especially in how the story twists familiar characters into morally complex players in a dark fairytale.

The club’s environment is unapologetically cutthroat. Success demands more than talent—it requires strategy, manipulation, and often, sex as currency. In this world, climbing the ladder means pushing others off it, and Alice embodies that drive. She’s the ambitious newcomer determined to dethrone Scarlett, the reigning queen of Wonderland, no matter the cost.
One scene in particular—where Alice is tag-teamed by Derek and another man—was difficult for me. While the narrative frames it as a consequence of her actions and a reflection of the club’s brutal dynamics, it felt excessive. The emotional weight and power imbalance made it hard to digest, even within the story’s dark context.

Overall, Bounce is bold, intense, and not for the faint of heart. It challenges readers to sit with discomfort while exploring themes of control, revenge, and transformation. If you’re drawn to villain origin stories and twisted fairytales, this one might intrigue you—just be prepared for its unapologetic edge.

So this book is a fast read. It has some interesting plots and I think it could have been better. Like with the husband. This story is about Alice going to a strip club but would have liked to see why this particular one instead of some of the others. Then she tries some crap. The bouncer does some "spicy" things to her along with his right hand man.... Needless to say, this could have been a great read with some better details. it seemed all over the place. Add more details on the characters and make us connect with them. This was more of a "she did wrong to my friend, and I'm going to do some things to her" but let's make it spicy.

This was the first book I've read by this author and I have to say that I flew through the pages to see what-all would happen. I enjoyed the world building being clear so I could picture scenes and people as the tale unfolded, but I also loved how gritty and gripping the story actually was. Expect to get caught up in the drama, glitz, danger, blackmail, mystery and steam of Wonderland when you crack this baby open ;P I'm looking forward to both more stories set in this world, as well as, other books by this author. Good fun!

I got this book for free on Stuff Your Kindle day. I was pumped for this because I’m a sucker for fairytale retellings and had high hopes for this. There was hardly a plot with a whole lot of spice. Now don’t get me wrong, I love a good spicy scene or two in my books but this? Yeah no it was too much for me honestly. I hate bashing books but this just seemed underdeveloped to me. I didn’t have time to connect with the characters or even try to like them because it was over just as soon as it started. To each their own but this was not my cup of tea😬

I think I lost my head when I read this one. I went into this book completely blind, and I am not going to lie when I say that Alice was something else. It felt like a trip into a forbidden artwork, like I was inside the head of the character the entire time, and I felt what he felt. The spice was spicing. It was raw and full of emotion. I felt like reading from Derek's point of view was like having my own little viewing into Wonderland, and although this was short, it had enough details to keep me trapped in its pages.

4.5/5 stars, as this was my favorite Wonderland book.

This is about Derek, the bouncer at the stripclub Wonderland, and the new talented stripper Alice, who has her eyes set on the position Scarlet holds. Scarlet is the boss’ old flame, the stripper with the prime spot, her own changing room and Derek’s protection.

This was a fast paced, easy read. Few people to keep track of, few locations, one plot line. It was read nicely by Noir Blanc! There was not enough there to really get me hooked or feel the characters, I was entertained, but I will probably not remember it for long. 3⭐️

She’s a stripper who is up to some things and unopposed to giving out smexual favors to avoid repercussions. He’s a bouncer, hired to set things straight but … unopposed to receiving those same favors…

Written in past tense.
First-person (male) POV.

Wonderland theming.
Stripper FMC.
Group scenes.
Edging.
Crime.

No real plot, just a quick spicy scene. If you like Wonderland & straight p0rn, this is probably your jam.

🎧 Audio:
Great overall sound quality and smoooooooth narration.

If only Lewis Carrol knew

I read this story originally in the charity anthology Tumbling Down the Rabbit Hole (worth reading) it certainly merits a second reading. A change from the author’s Danny Diamond series (also worth reading) a twist on Alice in Wonderland dark with interesting characters, working out who the equivalents are that revolve around the hustling Alice and of course the dash of erotica thoroughly enjoyable.

Bounce: A Dark Fairytale Retelling (Wonderland After Dark Book 1), purportedly the first book in the Wonderland After Darkseries, my sixth read from author Logan Black. If you're offended by adult themes you might not like this book. A 61-page short read that I finished in under an hour. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. This is a quick little dark and spicy novella about the underside of working in a str!p club. The MMC had the structure of someone that could turn into an interesting character, but not a whole lot of time to flesh it out in this. You finish with more questions than answers, but intrigued enough to read book 2. A couple warnings- there is a slur for Trans individuals that is not directed at an individual as well as fetishization of Black men.

This is a short story about a strip club with an Alice in Wonderland twist. Alice arrives at the Wonderland strip club and causes a stir. Bounce (the clubs main bouncer) tells the story. He uncovers a secret plot and puts a stop to this with an extremely spicy twist. The narration was great, the voice actor brought all the characters to life. If you like a short story, engaging narration and spicy scenes this is the audio book for you.

Flat

Bounce by Logan Black short twisted spicy story that references of Alice in Wonderland. This story was very flat. Lots of spice but flat. There were parts I didn't understand why it was even in the story. Parts about husband like what was the point? For the plot it was very predictable and blah. The characters were under developed. The connections between the characters were superficial. I got it for a free styk book and thank goodness I didn't spend money on it.

This is probably one of my favorite stories by Logan. It’s dark and twisted and it tells so much about character.
Glamor and lights can’t always hide the flaws of human behavior.
The retelling aspect of it is great. The little pieces he picks and uses are spot on.
It’s a gripping story that will leave you at the edge of your seat until the end.

Oh my

Short and hot is what this book is. Spice on every page you turn. Alice doesn't know that the big, bad bouncer is now onto her; he refuses to give her the best O of her lifetime until she tells the truth about what she's really doing in Wonderland.

Highly recommend this book to everyone.

Derek is a bouncer at Wonderland - Alice starts working there as a dancer. In this first book we learn the dynamics of the people working at and those owning the club. Great first book to the series. You just know after finishing this book the series will be a WOW series!

Naughty Alice

Well that was quick and dirty. Alice is a stripper at Wonderland but she isn't a good girl.

There is a story here but it isn't super important. This is short and smutty.

He may be just a bouncer but he isn't stupid.

This is an incredibly short but steamy listen of an interesting twist on the Alice in Wonderland story. Alice is trying to become the top dancer at Wonderland strip club and Derek is the guy for her. It is short and steamy and twisted at times but an enjoyable listen nonetheless.

Alice is the kind of sassy red flag my mother warned me to stay away from. Fast, smart and filthy, both this story and it's protagonist Alice!

Short and spicy
The ending was hot as helloooo! Definitely not romantic. This is a dive into a feral man's mind. Derek is clever and he certainly got the last laugh. Lucky Duane was pretty happy too.
