This final book in the series both excited me and royally pissed me off all at the same time.
Favorite quote: “You’re weird” “Your charm, as always, leaves me speechless” 😂
I loved Kezia in Book 1, Book 2 had me hating how watered down she was, and I fell back in love with her for at least a portion of this book. She came back swinging and she isn’t pulling her punches—pun intended. She called a spade a spade, went off on people when necessary, and also ordered alphas around. It was entertaining af. Also, there was a role reversal sex scene that was hotter than hell! 🔥
Also, the part in the book where they’re happy and they’re so uncomfortable with it and are hopeful that it’ll pass was hysterical.
This book had a decent plot and was funny at times, but overall I was just left wanting and frustrated.
I love Kezia and Cannon together, but admittedly Cannon is a prick that doesn’t respect or deserve Kezia. And this is proven time and time again through the series and specifically in this book. After all that’s happened, he feels like he can control her. And when he’s not actively trying to do that, he still has a sense of superiority that is NOT endearing or sexy in the slightest. And he never learns. Even when she REPEATEDLY tells him that she prefers Zia, he goes on to tell her why he’ll never call her that and basically belittles her. He had his moments where I really liked him, but overall he just sucked. If this is what love is, the universe can keep it.
At first, I thought the author wrote a strong female character. And at times, she is. But overall, what she wrote is an inadequate character. This book is about HER, yet scene after scene shows her failing, apologizing, and Cannon left as the hero and can’t even do it without being smug and reminding her that he’s in control and/or knows better or made things happen. She was depicted as this tenacious, spitfire of a girl, then they don’t even give her the redemption arc of realizing at times she’s impulse but that she truly can defend, grow, and win. The author even pivots to make Kezia not the issue when it comes to Bale. He’s focused on her in so many regards, all for her brother to be the issue? Her fight with Bale? Literally the most disappointing thing ever. Things get wrapped up with a pretty little bow all while she’s in a coma for God’s sake.
Lastly, the inclusion of Barbara, the explanation of a Druid, and the rabbit storyline are completely useless and made me more confused than anything. They were unnecessary add-in’s in so many ways. And in the end, the men get recognition for what they did and Kezia just has her name cleared.
This book had SO MUCH potential to be good, had some great moments for sure, but overall just became a let down.
