With lies this deep, who can be trusted to tell the truth?
The small community of Grady made national news in the aftermath of a string of missing girls, both dead and alive, being discovered in the quaint lakeside town in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
As details emerge from the girls' time in captivity, more questions are raised about the involvement of several possible suspects.
For years, secrets have been kept by the residents of Grady Lake to protect the monsters who lived among them. As the death toll continues to climb, we are left to do secrets die with those who keep them?
This heartstopping thriller from the author of Grady Lake and Delta County will keep you guessing until the final page.
Thank you for stopping by to rate my books or see my reviews. I don't spend much time on Goodreads, as it's not great for the mental health of an author to obsess over their own reviews.
I simply rate books as I finish reading them, and if you'd like a full review, check out my Instagram - @bookandbeerreview - where I keep it light, funny, and never disrespect fellow authors!
4.5 ⭐️ a great continuation of the Grady lake series. This one had some more twists and turns that I didn’t see coming especially that last one!!! I’m still really loving this family and their story! Can’t wait to see how it ends.
This book actually left me speechless but let’s see if I can form some type of coherent thoughts.
I knew the second I started this book I was not going to stop until I was finished. This was definitely in my top 3 most anticipated releases of the year & now book 3 is up there as well. I really don’t know how I will be waiting until summer!!
I say it with every release, but this is TRULY Jamie’s best book yet. I mean the character development was AMAZING. I felt so so deeply attached to these characters, I even shed some tears. I mean I was entirely captivated by this one - I laughed, I cried, I screamed & I even swooned a little (Nolan babe I’m looking at you). This book just simply HAD. IT. ALL.
This book had so many twists & turns, I was on the edge of my seat for essentially the ENTIRE THING. And those cliff hangers?!?! HELLO?! I don’t know how Jamie continues to do it.
♾️/5 stars - do yourself a favor and pick up this series. I promise you, you will NOT regret it.
Usually i would write a detailed review, but i need to jump straight into book 3 after that ending! Dare i say i think book 2 is better than the first one. Gobbled this one right up and i cant wait to see how it all concludes!
While I didn’t love this one nearly as much as the first one, there was a ton going on that kept me constantly on my toes, suspicious of every single person and being surprised more times than not. And that. CLIFFY! Gah, so thankful the third book is out already or I would be mighty pissed. Anywho, we pick up where book one left off. You know who is alive, albeit unwell, and so are several other missing girls. The bad guys are locked up and motives are slowly revealed. And some of them aren’t what you think, which was a fun surprise!
Katie and Nolan get closer and closer, and while everyone else’s life is falling apart, hers seems to be improving! And then another body is found, and Katie can’t seem to think that all this mess isn’t over. Of course she wants to bury her head in the sand, until she overhears a conversation that threatens to ruin her life as she knows it. I am SO suspicious of Nolan, he and Katie seem so random and surface level, but I hope he’s the real deal. Off to go read the last book as quickly as I possibly can!
Holy. Smokes! This is not only JL hydes best work, it’s one of the best thrillers I’ve ever read. Obviously there’s not a ton I can say because this is the second book in a series - but this book kept me On my toes the entire time. I didn’t stop reading it as soon as I picked it up. I declined all other life responsibilities. Not only does it give you tons of twists, she gives you just enough reveals to keep your interest and set you up perfectly for book 3! Bravo to Jamie… this is absolutely excellent!!!!
With every new books JL’s writing and storytelling continues to get better and better. I finished this in 24 hours I was so hooked with all the twists and cliffhangers. Loving all the characters in this series as well, they are starting to feel like family! SO excited for the third and final book of this series!
I am usually skeptical of a book series - especially with mysteries. The continuation of the Grady Lake story proved me wrong. Book 2 picked up where Book 1 left off, with chapter after chapter of awesome characters and fantastic twists and turns. Nothing felt like filler and the story kept me flipping through pages to see what would happen next. Thank goodness I had Grady Lake 3 already so I could see what was going to happen next!
This was more like 4.5 stars. I actually enjoyed it more than the first. The epilogue made me excited to hurry up and read the final book in the series.
no matter how good i think i am at figuring out thrillers, JL always sneaks in a twist i didn’t see coming - this book was no exception! been a fan for awhile, and cannot wait for book 3
Well I read this book in like 3 days and if you know me that’s pretty quick so I obviously was hooked!! Just like the first book in this trilogy, it reads sooooo easy!! it’s like I blinked and was done 🙃 I really loved seeing the characters growth in this book but I became more suspicious of others… I feel like this book is more of a set up for the third one because that cliff hanger!!!!!!! I literally yelped when I read it, I haven’t had a reaction like that in a minute lol 😂 anyways I liked this book a whole lot and can’t wait to wrap the series up soon!
I am so close to giving this 5 stars! There was a very small part that seemed to have a political agenda which I really don’t like so that’s the only reason I am giving it 4.5 stars. And it may not have been a political agenda.
Anyway this is my 5th JL Hyde book and I LOVE her mysteries! She is such an amazing story teller and I feel like I really know the characters so well by the end of her books.
I read the first 1/3 of this book and got busy doing other things and finishing other books and then today when I picked it up again I read the last 2/3 of the book! It was so so so so good! I cannot wait for Book 3 this summer!
If you are going to read her most recent books read them in this order:
Delta County Summer of 99’ Midnight in Delta County
Those 3 ⬆️ go together. You will see how when you read Midnight in Delta County
Grady Lake Secrets of Grady
A 3 book series ⬆️ with the third book coming out this summer!
This was so addicting, I was pointing fingers everywhere, and then I was SHOOK to my core with this twist. Jamie (author) really slapped me in the face. For the first time in a while I couldn't sit and binge a book in one go, because I read this on vacation, and let me tell you, I wanted to cancel all plans to sit and read this.
AHH! Keep your eyes peeled for when this releases here soon because it's so good. If you haven't read any of her books, you have no choice, you just have to. Everyone I have recommended to read her has LOVED her work.
You still have time to read Grady Lake before this releases, go go go 🖤
Oh my goodness! JL Hyde is an absolute rock star at making my jaw hit the floor at the end of every one of her books! This....this right here! Wow!
I had so many theories, some right, some wrong, but I loved every minute of this whodun it ride! I can't wait for the 3rd book to release!
This books description of the upper peninsula makes me want to visit so badly! Like add it to my bucket list, why don't we. I want to visit a dive bar, visit some beautiful scenic areas, and I so want a brandy slush. Which there is so kindly a fun recipe in the back of the book!
Thank you, JL Hyde, for taking me for such a fun reader ride again!
I don’t even know where to begin! Secrets of Grady was one of the best books I’ve ever read! It was such a page turner with so many twits and turns. Lots of questions from book 1 Grady Lake are answered in this one but I don’t want to say too much and give anything away. I’m a huge J.L. Hyde fan and think all of her books are 5 stars but Secrets of Grady just might be her best book yet! It’s one of those books that you will be thinking about long after you finish it. I can’t wait for book 3 of the series!
Woah the plot twists were really interesting in this one, especially the uneasy way this one ended. I still really suspect three people, but now knowing Nicole might have been involved and keeping it from Katie is going to really stress their friendship. There were quite a few funny moments too, like Douglas flirting with Chelsey and Nolan spitting his drink all over his laptop- but this was really good. The plot was kinda slow for the first 30% but then it really picked up and I’m excited to read the last book and figure out the whole story once and for all.
What are you even doing if you’re not reading this series. Jamie is an auto buy for me because all of her books are just that good, but this series? Oh my gosh, it’s her best yet. This is the second book in the Grady Lake series and I will be thinking about the ending until book 3 comes out. The twists and turns will blow your mind. How does she think of this stuff? Just read it already!
I really wish I could give this more stars. JL Hyde has done it again and now I am itching to get my hands on the next book in the series, Ghosts of Grady.
Well! That was a doozie of a sequel, ending with multiple cliffhangers and suffice it to say, I can't wait to read the third and final book. Don't want to give anything away by delving into the plot but I can reveal multiple story line questions were answered, and new questions popped up by the end of this book..the suspense continues with shocking new revelations at the conclusion of the book.
J L Hyde has done it again! She never fails to leave my mind blown and mouth dropped wide open. I couldn’t put this book down. There were twists and turns at every corner. Can’t wait for the final book later this year!
I love the light thriller suspense that this author writes. Short, to the point, filled with small town charm and nostalgia. This was an excellent follow-up that gave me more of the characters I love and still kept me guessing.
I liked this one even better than the 1st... excellent character development and so well written. I couldn't put it down! It was funny, twisty and it made me tear up a couple of times! And GAH, the cliffhanger at the end... guess I need to start the 3rd immediately!
