A Prime Minister Assassinated. An Island Paradise in Turmoil. 600 Students Trapped Under Military Rule.
1983. The invasion of Grenada.
When the Prime Minister is assassinated after a military coup, a campus full of American students is trapped under socialist rule on the island of Grenada.
The President wants to mount a rescue mission.
But is the US response designed to save the students or an attempt to quash a Soviet-backed outpost in the Caribbean?
Without a diplomatic or intelligence presence on the ground, the Marines and US Army soldiers tasked with the operation are flying into the unknown.
But Marine Sergeant Lenny Cox and Australian SAS Sergeant Lucas Burnside have just wrapped an operation in the Caribbean. Together, they have to discover the regime's plan, protect the Governor General of Grenada from becoming the next political assassination, and save six hundred students, all while trying not to set off Cuba and the Soviets onto a path to World War Three.
A.J. Stewart has lived in so many places it feels like he has a home team in every game he sees. Which explains why his wife begins any sports telecast with "who are going for today?" A.J. and his family currently spend their time in Los Angeles and South Florida, but stay tuned, anything could happen.
Oh man it this one good! Probably more fact than fiction. The names of all the primary's are real. Check out the date on Wikipedia and get an excellent idea of what Lenny&Lucas are getting into. In October of 1983, the Granadian Prime Minister was assassinated, because he was leaning too close to a demecratic form. The people were told he was an insurrectionist. With the Granadian government in shambles, There is a lot of jockying for position as to who will take over. The Communists/Socialists want to make sure it is them. That means getting rid of anyone who is not them. Lenny&Lucas are basically there to protect the ones that supports a democratic way of life. There are also hundreds of American college students there, leading President Reagan to decide an "Intervention" is in order. This gives our guys more than enough to do and all the excitement that does with it!
Really enjoy these two, Lenny and Aussie pal Lucas, especially their interaction with all branches of the military, with smart and funny quips to roll them right along. Good entertainment and a storyline with depth.
I never really knew much about the Granada “intervention,” not even sure where Granada was located, but Mr Stewart’s saga of Lenny and Lucas is forever in my head. If only History class and current events could be so engrossing!
Well written in terms of being both entertaining and re-creating the conditions of the event
Obviously the heroes are over sensationalized but the situation is and historical event. It was well described with all of its intricacies. And engaging and entertaining story
