I’ve been outspoken about not being the biggest NJO fan, but I think this volume perfectly showcased the Vong done well, and highlighted something else missing from some of the large scale publishing initiatives coming out of Lucasfilm (cough The High Republic cough)…family drama.
Look, as much as it’s sometimes hard to admit, Star Wars is, at its core, a family soap opera set against a space western/samurai story backdrop.
So royal families, secret identities, weird Force abilities…it was all gravy to me. I was hoping for more conclusive answers to some questions, but it seems like this run of Invasion comics ended prematurely.
I enjoyed this collection a lot more than I thought I would. Though I am not a huge fan of the New Jedi Order era or the Vong, the Invasion comics surprised me. I really enjoyed both the story and the artwork, especially the Revelations arc. I really am surprised that there weren't any more comics published in this part of the timeline. The rest of the collections was just okay. The Tales comics rarely spark much interest from me, and the bulk of the ones included in this were the funny meta-blurbs included at the beginning of each issue.
really fun to see the yuuzhan vong visualized! also loved the kaye and wish she appeared in other material. the ending was a little rushed and i still had a lot of questions after reading, but overall really good.
