As David Saylor’s The New Republic Of Texas 2 opens, planet Earth has just suffered a massively destructive CME event unlike anything ever recorded. Everything electronic, unless specially protected, had been completely destroyed.
Leon Tusk, tech magnate and the richest man in the world, had anticipated the impending CME and its impact on the world. He’d told the president and the military about it and created new technology to ensure most of the conveniences people had taken for granted, like communication, transportation, running water, and electricity, would survive—even if for only a fragment of Earth’s population, centered in Texas.
James Hunley’s job as lieutenant general in command of the entire Army of the newly-formed country, the New Republic of Texas, was to protect it all until they could rebuild.
The problem was, the government didn’t tell the people…
As always from Saylor, there is no foul language or sex in this story.
The story line is pretty good, but this second book in the series contains way too much blubbering about the Biden administration, even to the point of mocking the VP"s laugh. It added absolutely nothing to the narrative and merely pandered to the sick sense of patriotism of Trumpers.
I did not finish this novel. It was well written, especially, if you were a military person. It was highly technical about guns, tanks, planes etc etc. And that was probably over 60% of the novel.
I read about 65% of it....
It was 'supposed' to be Christian,
BUT
In 65% of the novel, the main character went to church once, only..... no sooner did he get there then he was called out for a military emergency!
So that was the sum total of the 'Christian' aspect, that I read!
No prayers, no scriptures, no sermons, no talk of God....
So LOL I would call this super super lite....Christian at least the first 65%
Maybe the rest had a wee bit more, but I just am not knowledgeable about guns, tanks, planes, military procedures etc etc etc etc.
Some one who is might find this just the thing they would love.
But I read Christian fiction only and there was almost none up to this point. So I felt misled!
So I really could not finish it.
It did have some interesting ideas about where our country is heading, or might be... But not enough to keep my interest.
So for me, I could not give it a 5 star or even a 4. It was pretty clean, not a lot of swearing ( if any) or sexual content at all!
This was a great read. Research was exquisite to describe weapons and aircraft. Truly kept my attention and am awaiting the 3 rd book in series quite eagerly. Boyd Craven has quickly become a top notch writer in post apocalyptic fiction. Perhaps it has to do with the realism he is able to spread in his stories and they aren’t as geared towards the evil gangs attacking homeowners and innocents as much as the dangers inherent in our own leaders and government not working to help us but only out to take care of their own. Mr Craven spreads hope that the special forces (active and retired) will hopefully retain their oath to protect the citizens and to refuse to do things they swore not to do. There’s hope out there if we know how to find it and pray that it is still alive !
This work, like the first volume, operates with an interesting premise. Character development is pretty good, if minimal. Obvious bias toward hard right thinking could be lived with. However, the obvious drawbacks to self-edited/published writing, such as grammatical errors and word choice, which are to be expected, cannot excuse such an obvious demonstration of lack of knowledge as does the statement alleging a common border between Texas and Arizona. C,mon, man!
The story was good, but there is too much EXTREME right propaganda. All the nasty references to wokeness and rude comments about actual people, even though VERY THINLY, (read hardly at all), disguised, were unnecessary and caused me to not like the characters as much as I wanted to. President Widen, Kalamity, REALLY?!? Also, the premise that the administration would enter Cheyenne Mountain or Mount Weather without a SINGLE member of the opposition party included is more of a MAGA move than a liberal one.
The New Republic of Texas 2 is the second book in the series which is parallel to the As the Light Dies series. I'd recommend reading books 1-7, then the two New Republic of Texas books, then book 8.
This is a fantastic and action packed book. I'd call it slightly salty as their are some minor curse words and references to bad people doing horrible things. Thankfully, these are just alluded to in a mostly respectful way.
As an Air Force vet I appreciate a well written novel. As a fellow Texan, and advocate for a real Republic Of Texas, reading this series is thrilling. I must advise that I'm not a native Texan, however, I got here as soon as I could. I wish tho congratulate both of the authors on a well written series on a par with Dale Brown, Tom Clancy, and several other techno-thriller authors. Thank you and p!ease continue this good, and entertaining work.
So Hobo 4 heads back into To find out what's going on
So from cruise missiles To a wax to FA 18s The new Tomahawks Everything else is being directed at The docks at Vera Cruise To rid us of ammunition Machinery And everything else to stop the invasion of The republic of Texas From Mexico.
I have enjoyed every book by David Saylor, as well as Boyd Craven Jr. This series as well. In this book, you will be revited as you read it on the edge of your chair. Five stars plus.
Great spin off to the series. Believable, and within the realm of current events. I would recommend this book and the In The as The Light Dies series by these authors.
This was a very good read. I throughly enjoyed this story . As always it is well written and flows easily. Great well developed characters and a good story line. Looking forward to the next installment.
Having read the first series I knew what was coming but wow. That was an amazing read. I enjoyed every word of this book. I look forward to many more in this world. A definite recommend!
I have enjoyed both of the New Republic of Texas books. It would be great if our government leaders would read them. I have been a believer of our country going to pot and the need to return to our roots. Look forward to reading your next book.
Really enjoyed this book very much but I really need the next one pretty soon please. I get lost in another book and forget about the book continuing on in the future. I guess I could make a chart with the date of books that continue.
David has a way of keeping your attention! The action, characters, and story will keep you on the edge of your seat. I look forward to reading his work.
Tried very hard to read this nonsense, but the conjunction of ultra-right politics, Musk worship and near total ignorance of reality makes it impossible.
