Come for the chaos. Stay for the heart.

While cats stalk phoenixes across the breakfast table and werewolves dig up the garden to torment her chihuahua, stories are already forming—layered with myth, emotion, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting.

Jemma Weir is a Scottish indie author of paranormal romance and urban fantasy with bite: magic is messy, love is fierce, and family means everything. Her characters are flawed, loyal, and unforgettable—shaped by legend and stitched with sass and suspense while the Scottish wind howls outside her writing room.

Her series include Highland Rift Pack, where protective shifters, tangled loyalties, and emotional stakes collide, and Death and Visions, a gritty urban fantasy detective saga set in Edinburgh, where solving murders means confronting psychic visions, buried trauma, and ghosts that won’t let go. Her stories explore loyalty, longing, and the kind of love that claws its way through darkness. Expect Scottish mist, fractured memories, and truths that refuse to stay buried.

Fantasy was her first love. Now she writes the kind of stories she always wanted to read—gritty, heartfelt, and just a little unhinged.

Oliver had been sent to patrol on the rift as a punishment for not having his wolf under control and being a weak alpha, father was super abusive since he was very young. Staci was the main weather elemental in town and had turned Oliver down for a date. Elliot was brought in to help her because his mother demanded it he was to give her time with her sick mother. She called him about a storm he told her he would take care of it but got drunk instead, called the guards to take her out. They got attacked so the storm hit but somehow she stopped it from doing a lot of damage Oliver grounded her. When in the storm shelter they had a mate dream, Oliver’s father showed up and tried to get him but was stopped. Father had him taken by Elliot to him Oliver was getting beaten and shot but Hale used Staci’s mate bond and found him then she stopped another storm from happening. Good book!

This is book three of the Highland Rift Scar series and the main characters are Oliver, an alpha wolf shifter sent to the rift as a punishment by his father David a Prime Alpha and leader of the Scotland Pack, and Staci, a Storm Elemental for the town of Huntly. She was born and raised in the small town just outside the Rift Scar and inherited her Storm Magic from her father, who disappeared from her life when she was little. Another Storm Elemental, Elliot, has been hired part time to help with the storms hitting the town, whilst she takes some time to be with her mother, who is suffering fro dementia and hasn’t got long left. Oliver is one of the Rangers who help to patrol the area around the Rift to ensure nothing dangerous gets through. It is a dangerous place and most Rangers only work there for a year, before returning to their packs. The area has its own pack and alpha, Hale, who has mated with a rare Earth Elemental, Sam, who somehow used her magic to make their pack lands alive, something the prime alphas want to know the ‘how’ of desperately. But Hale needs his mate to be kept safe and this magic kept secret to ensure that. He is a good alpha and didn’t have a problem when Oliver somehow pulled two of his pack out and formed his own pack as alpha.

Staci is having a rare couple of days off to spend with her mother, while her mother’s friend Florence takes time off from helping out with her mother, when she feels a storm beginning to grow. Elliot should have stopped it before it could grow too much, bunt nothing seems to have been done and he is ignoring her texts and calls. He finally answers her later that night and tells her to stop worrying and that he has it under control, but that isn’t what happens. By the next morning, the storm is almost too big to be stopped by one Storm Elemental, so she goes to Elliot’s to make him help sort it out, as it will probably take them both. The person who answers his door, is a very naked and hungover Oliver, not what she expected. She had feelings for Oliver, but never let them go anywhere as he wouldn’t be staying for long and had a bit of a reputation for womanising. She forces both of them to the Ranger station and to gear up to go to the rift, something Elliot has never had to do and which Oliver suddenly realises his friend is afraid of! If Elliot had dealt with the storm. The previous day, none of this would have been necessary.

Usually, a team of Rangers would have gone ahead and patrolled the area to make sure it was safe to bring in the Elementals to deal with the storm, as neither are trained to deal with the dangers the rift can produce. Oliver knows this first hand, as do the rest of his team, Rafe and Zoe, as well as another alpha, Lance, who comes to help them. Before they can reach the storm, which Elliot still refuses to admit is growing, they are attacked by a large group of imps and it is only an unknown action by Staci that stops the attack, leaving Elliot with a scratch on his arm, but Rafe badly injured. They have no time to deal with the storm now and must get back to town to warn everyone to get to safety, as the storm has become a dangerous tornado! Lance becomes suspicious of some of Elliot’s ramblings about the storm and later on the reasoning behind it all is revealed. Oliver’s father wants him to come back to his pack, not knowing Oliver now has a pack of his own, something his father said he would never be good enough for as he beat him into submission and put him down constantly! Staci will get to see another side of Oliver as they get stuck on her way to check on her mother, and she allows the storm to control her and Oliver has to stop her somehow.

She is his mate and he wants to stay with her, but the price of that decision may be far too high a one to pay, where his father is concerned. Elliot’s mother Joyce, is trying to get the town to declare Staci dangerous like her father, so her son Elliot can become the full time weather warden of the town! She has had it in for Staci since she was a teen and saved her from a lightening strike, in a way her mentor Jake had rarely seen in anyone even fully trained and working for decades at their craft. Forces are trying to force Oliver to leave, just as he and Staci have finally given into their feelings for each other and a mate bond has started to form. A power hungry mother and a prime alpha driven mad by his need for control, are forcing matters into dangerous ground, as they seek to get what they want, not caring who is hurt in the process. Oliver believes he isn’t as strong as his father, but threats to his mate may finally get him to stand up and fight for what is right and for what he truly wants. None of it will be easy, but with pack working in the background to ferret out the truth, they are not alone as pack helps and protects its own.

An intriguing storyline, with plenty of unusual storm magic, as well as the magic of shifters and their inner wolves voices having a great sense of knowledge and history of their kind and their powers. I loved the is of characters and how Hale had made a new pack land for shifters, without all the restrictive rules other packs have to follow. He was an example of what an alpha should be, something Oliver had never had until he came to the rift. The different elements of the storms that had to be disassembled to stop them from growing was well described and made it all come alive on the page. Staci had a difficult time with trying to do her job and protect the town and its people, whilst also knowing her time with her only family was coming to an end, as her mother’s health rapidly declined. Good to see them all come together to fight the evil of Joyce and David, without starting a war between packs, as Hale and Oliver feared. I look forward to reading the first few books in the series after being taken in so completely by this one. Well worth a read by anyone who loves a mixture of magic and shifters, with the added bonus of mates and romance thrown in. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

A well written and compelling Paranormal romance.

Battered by Storms is the third title in Jemma Weir’s Highland Rift Pack series. This series is set in a post Fae War world where, about a century later, huge rift scars still leave evidence of that death and destruction. Then the earth was ripped apart and deadly creatures still escape from them remaining scars. Rift Wardens must guard the scars, scientists monitor them, and elemental weather wardens control the wild local weather to ensure the safety of the world today. In Scotland the Highland Rift Scar is guarded by Hale and his transitory pack of shifters (sent North from their family packs as punishment). One of Hale’s rift rangers is Oliver, the son of a high-ranking Alpha, and now himself the Alpha of his own small pack, within Hale’s.

The local weather warden is Staci, a local elemental, who has now been assigned the help of a second warden, in order to spend time with her mother who has dementia. When a storm threatens to rage out of control, Staci is concerned by her colleague’s dismissive attitude and, despite being on her day off work, ends up having to go into the rift area, escorted by rangers, in order to calm the growing storm. Staci soon realises that this storm is different to normal storms and she struggles to control it, her own storm magic almost drawing her into the storm itself. There to guard Staci, Oliver senses an unusual connection with her and finds that he is the only one able to keep her safe when her storm magic overwhelms her.

Oliver and Staci have an undeniable attraction to each other that they’ve both been ignoring but now that is becoming increasingly difficult. Unfortunately Oliver is due to leave the Highland Rift Pack soon and, unless Oliver provides his father with information that could endanger the pack, he has been ordered to return to his home pack immediately. Like the rest of the series, Battered by Storms is a well written and planned story. In this title the descriptions of Staci’s storm magic are especially powerful and bring the story’s world to life. All of the characters are well developed and I felt invested in Staci and Oliver’s romance. Whilst Battered by Storms could be read as a standalone title, it would be best to read as part of a series since it continues from the previous titles. I would definitely recommend this title to anyone who wants to read a steamy shifter/elemental romance that is also action packed.

BATTERED BY STORMS is the third book in the Highland Rift Pack series and you really need to read these as a series, rather than a set of standalones. The stories are linked and there is an overarching plot that changes and deepens in each book.

Staci has been mentioned in the previous books as she is a Storm Warden. Oliver has also played a part, forming a pack when he wasn't sure of what he was doing. These two have avoided each other up until this point but, when a series of events throws them in each other's path, things take an unexpected turn and swiftly become heated.

I found this to be incredibly emotional as we find out more about Staci's life and, in particular, her mother who is suffering from dementia. The scenes written were heartbreaking and painful. I hated them because they were so realistic, and I loved them for the same reason.

We get some insights into Lance in this book, so I'm hopeful he will be the next one. Staci and Oliver are supported magnificently by other couples already met, as well as known and unknown characters. Their story was gripping and entertaining, leaving me with a smile even as I wanted more. That's a winning combination, in my book.

This series just keeps getting better and better and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Ths book is about concurring fears and does. It focuses on a weather elemental, Staci and Oliver an alpha shifter. They are attracted to each other but Stacy sees him as a player and a party boy, not boyfriend material. They find through Thor , Oliver wolf that they are mates. They find ways to navigate their connection. This story is also about how people allows their hatred and hunger for power to destroy themselves . This includes a weather elemental, his mother a council member of the town and a prime alpha who happens to be Oliver’s abusive father. It is action packed with weather elements, and betrayal. All the characters are important to the story. Hale is an excellent leader and alpha. He wants his pack to be strong plus he is not afraid of allowing others to be strong or alphas like Oliver who has his own pack within the pack. He protects his mate as well because she is an earth elemental which is taboo . This is a great series and book. I really enjoy reading about the complex characters and their trials they face while protecting themselves and others from the rift . I would give this book more than 5 stars if possible.

It was great reading Oliver and Staci’s story as he has been a prominent character in the other couple’s stories. With Amelia and Mitchel, Oliver’s pack, away training, the Rift Scar wardens are in short supply. Oliver has a much needed night off and goes out with a recently returned friend, Elliot. Elliot is a part time weather warden, assisting Staci while she spends some time with her deteriorating mother. Even though it is Staci’s night off she senses a growing storm and Elliot ignores her concerns. Having had enough and needing to get out to the rift and stop the storm, Staci barges into Elliot’s apartment to get him. There she bumps into Oliver and it all speeds up from there! Danger, action and betrayal come into play as Staci and Oliver battle the storm, the council and Oliver’s father as well as accepting their mate bond. Although this is Oliver and Staci’s story we do still get Hale, Sam and some of the other characters we have met before.
Maybe Lance’s story next??

Jemma Weir is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. Battled by Storms is book #3 of the Highland Rift Series. It follows Oliver (an alpha shifter who is in constant battle with himself, his role in this world and his painful past) and Staci, a storm elemental (who is dealing with doing her job while caring for an ailing parent). Although at first they seem to be an unlikely couple they are the only ones who can help heal the pain from their pasts. The danger they are faced with and having to deal with those that are ensuring they fail and continue to beat them down. It’s a fast read as you can’t wait to see what happens next.

Human and Weather Storms!
The third book in this series is just as exhilarating as the first two books. I strongly advise to read the prequel novella to know where Oliver and Staci come from before the beginning of this book (available through ms Weir’s website). It continues the story around the Rift Scar, the village of Huntly, the Shifters of the Highland Rift Pack and their mates. Lots of action, hidden agendas, wrongful accusations, cruelty and love. Love between mates (to be), pack members, family and friends. And there is the weather as an extra character with a will and intention of its own.
Wonderful read, loved it! Highly recommended.

This is my favorite of the series yet! I loved this book so much. Staci and Oliver were delightful characters and I felt their depth even more than I think the previous two books. The romance is much lighter in this book and the focus was more on the overall story arc of people just trashing this pack. But having the experience of the previous two books, I didn’t feel like their connection to each other was any less deep for it not being the focus.

I’m not really sure where the series is going after this. Maybe Lance will get a book? It seems like we’re pairing shifters with elementals, but it could be cool if Lance and Zoe were a thing. 👀👀

Book 3 in the Highland Rift Pack Series does not disappoint. These books stand alone, but are better when read in order. I have enjoyed reading each character’s story. Having unique Elementals has been a fun way to add interest to a wolf shifter series. I have been appreciating the wolf characters having a duality to them with their inner wolves. The over arcing Rift Scar has brought a central location to the series and the author has done a great job of keeping action at the Scar happening along with each love story. I am anxious for the next book.

This is the third book in series and again I just wanted to just continue reading without life getting in the way. I couldn’t unfortunately read in one sitting. But the story just keeps me invested in the lives of the characters and I felt almost like I was part of the story. I love the fact that there are shifters and elementals and how humans are prejudiced. Which is how humans are even though we like to think we are not; prejudiced against differences in others. Great making it real. Love this series and can’t wait for the next one.

I absolutely loved Staci's magic in this book. Her magic has been the most unique in the series and opened up a different look at living in the world Jemma created. I seriously want storm magic now. I had the same small issues with this book as I have had for the whole series where the time frame of the story is like 4 days a most and just makes everything super rushed and has not a lot of development for either the characters or a deeper plot. This is my favorite book in the series so far.
Of all the characters, Oliver was one of the most intriguing, and I am glad that his character and his rough history were presented in such a good manner. He and Staci make a great couple. As usual, the story of the group overseeing the Rift was engaging and made me want to get to know the other characters better, who have been secondary so far (OMG, Lance!).
I look forward to the next part!.

This Paranormal Romance is the story of Staci (with storm magic) and Oliver's (alpha of his pack) story and how they have to fight the odds to remain together. This is an action-packed story that hailed my attention to the end. I love the characters Weir has created. When reading, you feel like you're in Scotland with the characters. I would definitely encourage you to grab a copy of this book for yourself. Great series, great story.

Well this book was just as good as the first two. I love how she is able to weave the main characters from the other books into the lives of the current couple. Hale is going to wind up with the largest pack of alphas around and hopefully he steps up and gets rid of all those old prime dudes who are worthless. I’m waiting for the next book I’m predicting Lance and Zoe.

An excellent story.
I read this story while we were under a severe thunderstorm and tornado watch. The heightened awareness of bad weather made it feel so very real.
The misuse of storm warden Elliot's power in an attempt to take over Staci's position as full time weather warden is disastrous. With the help of Oliver, Lance, Hale, the Rift Pack alpha, and his mate Sam things turned out very well.

This installment is Oliver and Staci’s story, and it’s the wildest ride yet. With pages full of drama, danger, suspense, twists/turns, enemies, humor, anger, tension, arrogance, complications, heartache, loyalty, confrontations, violence, betrayal, and fated mates, you won’t be able to put it down.
