Tom Dow was born in Washington, D.C. and lived in Ohio and Northern California before moving to Tokyo in 1984. The majority of the poems in this colleciton were written between 1990 and 1995 and reflect transitions arising from culture shock, growing up, or surrender. Currently, he is finishing a novel about foreigners living in Japan and editing his second poetry collection. He divides his time between working on an organic farm in North Carolina and teacing languages at a university in Tokyo.
