Practically zero progress

Think I'm getting vaguely tired of all these volumes that don't make very much progress on the story. The whole novel and they barely left the room they started in. You could probably skip this volume entirely by just reading my spoiler section... And you wouldn't really be missing much anyways. Despite that, I don't regret buying the novel because it does support more coming out and being published. I just feel grumpy and a little cheated.

Spoilers ahead: if you do want to skip this one the only thing you really need to know is they found the ancient Queen's crown and that the king's current crown was a replica of that crown to fool everybody. Other than that it's just some minor conversations and a bunch of combat. Burke is unconscious and the princess is asleep. Since she did injure herself in the process of stopping his rampage, there are ramifications that trouble is ahead. Having read the novels, I know there's troubles ahead. If I remember correctly, the novels haven't really gotten much farther than dealing with the ramifications and the consequences being resolved. So in a way, the manga is very close to catching up with the novels. Maybe that's why they put so much filler... Or at least drag everything out so long that you don't feel like you get anything.

At least this one didn't end on a cliffhanger.

There are some interesting ideas at play here but the execution is wonky. This genre is known for overly emotional reactions, quick pacing, and communication misunderstandings. You'll find them here. Without time to breathe it is hard to invest in the elements. The accidental death, harsh reaction of deity like creatures, and Octavia's struggles in this life are interesting and dark. Magical vows as weakness and a vicious view of the lower class by some of the imperials provides true tension in the state of the future. I'd say there is more plot and themes than standard. Only it is hard to focus on that when each chapter introduces a handful of new characters each with two or three "identities" or "secrets." She doesn't get to resolve any crisis before three more are in play. The romantic subplots are even worse. It's supposed to invert the ratios of LGBTQ+ individuals in normal society but it demonizes and belittles them at the same time. While more common than readers would hope in the genre it prohibits some personal enjoyment and makes it hard just to light-heartedly laugh at cliches.

This was a good volume in an already good series. I love that this series is kind of silly, and doesn't take itself too seriously. At least so far. A lot of the isekai I've been reading recently is really sad, with tragic backstories and suffering all around. Although this series does allude to some really messed up stuff, so far we haven't seen much of it.

This volume, again, gives us hints of tragedy and suffering in the background, but our heroine is doing well. I know we're supposed to be worrying with her about her getting a fake boyfriend to show off to her family, but I'm actually weirdly invested in figuring out what happened to the ancient queen.

I also missed her little brother, I worry for him. Through no fault of his own, he's in an extremely difficult situation. So far, I don't really like the father or the older brother. I honestly have no idea where this manga is going. But I'm here for the ride.

I had thought that, given that this volume released in 2022 this was the last volume, but no, it isn't. Haha. Another series I will forget about. XD In this volume a lot of tension, revelations, scary situations, and lots more people shipping Octavia with her guard which I absolutely loved.
Octavia is such a fun character and I love her expressions + her kick-ass attitude. Go Octavia!
