There will be lying, cheating, bullying, backstabbing, violence, and hard-earned, sweet redemption for those who won't give up on love. Because life's not always picture perfect, but every heart, no matter how broken and damaged, deserves love.

I loved Colt and Lo together. Both were flawed in a way that made them a perfect match. Unfortunately I was less a fan of their relationship outcome and the series’s conclusion. Lo was pushed too far, endured too much, and added to the Dixie drama, the manipulation, the secrets, Colt’s inability to tell her to step off, it went on too long. I get that he suffered from substance abuse, but come on, to be so trusting for so long? I think the biggest detractor for me was just the sheer length of this series. Too long. I’m sad to write I was losing interest at the middle point on of the book.

Again, I liked knowing more about Duke’s motivations, his coping and draw to Colt, paving the path to the twins’ books. Happy to read more Maverick, a bit of Harper, Magnolia, too.

Definitely spicy this book, though since Colt and Lo weren’t a couple until nearer the end, there was a quite a bit of sex, outside the intimacy of the two.

An entertaining read, less appealing to me than books two and three, and book one was like a long prequel. Just the overall series’ length, all the backstory, and the over abundance of Gloria’s machinations were too much. I suspect the untraditional storyline style combined with the progression made this less a favored one for me, too. Gloria did not get what she should have had coming to her due to her destructive behavior in comparison to all the hardship both Colt and Gloria endured. And besides any comeuppance, the conclusion was hugely unfulfilling, hollow, and depressing. Unbalanced. Those who should have been rewarded instead just lived their unguided, spontaneous, what-was-left life.

This did not feel like romance. This was not a satisfying ending to an already unconventional and complex series.

It had potential

Preston story was amazing. It started from child hood and the focus was him and dolly. There were side characters, but the story didn't stray. This series...it was a hot mess. I didn't read this book I skimmed over it. It was repetitive. I love colt... I wasn't impressed with Lo. I was happy to see the epilougue. However, what the heck happened to Olive's sister!!!

Wow, just wow.
How Colt and Lo's story went down was all sorts of crazy. But it ended in a way that was absolutely perfect for their traumatic past.
And Dixie. What can I say about her besides she is like a cockroach. I'm hoping she comes back in Baron and Duke's book and karma stomps her like the evil villian she is.

Too many bows left untied

The final installment to find out what happens to poor Colt Darling, Gloria, Winn Dixie and the side characters. To say this was a confusing belly flop is an understatement. The chapters drag on and on beating a dead horse without ever getting to the graveyard. It’s unbelievable how you can skim over so many pages only for a character to still be on the same inner monologue or two of them having the same conversation, foreplay or stare down. It was like watching someone run on a treadmill never getting anywhere. It’s probably just me, I love intrigue and mystery but I also like answers. Colt finally gets the truth about how manipulating Dixie has been the entire time they’ve been together yet he still stays with her? Gloria finally tells Colt how she really feels about him and he rejects her? They finally decide to be together, you think it’s going to be an epic proportion explosion only for Colt to run yet again. Then there is the last two chapters,.,,,,,,,,,WHO IS THE BABY DADDY??????? I have no idea how Colt could not be. Someone is so so off, she was only being with Colt and then 4 potential guys are responsible???? How?? She was arrested, So yes my review is full of spoilers and frustration about a story that makes no sense at all. What happened here? Did Selena forget what she was writing or the timeline???? If anyone knows, please respond bc I’m so utterly confused and disappointed. This is s 2 star read. It had so much potential. Very sad.

Gilded Fake is the highly anticipated final book in Colt’s series. The secrets are all out (or are they?!) and all that’s left is to see where the pieces fall. If you’ve come this far through the series I don’t need to tell you how deliciously dark and depraved this book is, but I’ll tell you this, it doesn’t disappoint so buckle in and enjoy the ride in what I’m calling the book of the year.

Reading this was bittersweet, much like the characters. I’ve loved these characters so hard I wanted to make the book last so I didn’t have to let them go, but I loved their story so much I didn’t want to put the book down. Colt and Gloria have become two of my all time favourite characters.

Selena has an incredible talent for weaving the most complex characters. It would be so easy to write them off for being too evil, too much of a cliché, too weak, too irredeemable that they become a characiture. And while I truly hate some of these characters (I’m looking at you Dixie), that’s never the case. They’re all fully realised complex characters. They’re human, they have flaws, and while that doesn’t appeal to everyone, I think that’s what makes these books so successful.

This book has even more character growth, emotion, passion than the previous ones, we get the blanks filled, we see more of the characters from the 90s timeline, we’re on that journey along with Colt seeing the flashbacks unveil as the book progresses, we get hints about what’s coming next, there’s redemption, someone gets their happy ever after, and most importantly their freedom, and it’s oh so satisfying. As sad as I am saying goodbye to the characters in this book (I have no doubt this is going to give me THE book hangover of the year), I can’t wait to say hello to Duke and Barron.

Very few redeemable characters

Interesting conclusion to this series. I don't think I'll read barons and duke's story for obvious reasons but I was glad this story got the ending it deserved.

3 years....

Gilded Fake is the fourth and final installment in the Willow Height Prep Academy Series: The Envy and concludes Gloria Whalton and Colt Darling story.
It's a bittersweet goidbye for me because we got so used to LoCo's journey that it's hard to say fairwell but, on the other hand, they went through so much that it almost seems like we're breathing with relief....

The conclusion made me feel a myriad of emotions, anger, outrage and even deception due to all the abuse as a form of entertainment and power plays, for what, I cannot muster.....Dixie's sinister game of seasoned words against a target she couldn't win any other way, manipulation that has been making me mad crazy since the very beginning, not even for love, just for a twisted idea of grandeur, happiness and hope for all those stolen moments of veiled peace where Lo and Colt showed themselves pure, undiluted and raw, just them, come anybody the mask was on.....

The narrative is told intertwining past and present, filling the gaps and giving the real scope of what kind of entanglement these two find themselves in. It wasn't born to be love, started with a peculiar kind of comfort, lots of doubts and internal conflict, back and forths, actions and reactions, trust issues and complete trust, protection and care, acceptance, defend, defend, defend...... a tough love, a merciless fight, battles lost, a hard-won war, at last, even with collateral....

What warmed me up inside was the reason Colt and Lo became so emdeded in each other, besides their brutal attraction, was the fact of either being the one showing respect, as wrenched as might seem at times, offering options and giving choices to one another. Even defying the other, it felt like a tacit understanding between the two, with abrasiveness, make-ups, shared fears and secrets or not, but always with resilience because, in their curcumstances, it couldn't be any other way.
As Selena got us used to, the set doesn't change in Gilded Fake, what does is the tone, a more profound aproach to our protagonists intimacy and their racionalization of the atmosphere, the events, their chances and wishes.
In a very convoluted and complex environment that is the Faulknerverse, plateau for Darlings, Dolces and Norths, the author ingeniously created a bubble tale featuring Gloria Whalton and Colton Darling, against all odds and expectations, giving them the possible, not the perfect, the peace of mind, body and the heart they so much needed.
Realistic and, for such amount of hardships with mangled souls and hearts full of love, it was enough to do exactly what they wanted, experience life experiencing each other unconditionally, fully, completely.
Healing together is the future.

This book was very important to me. There were so many questions answered, so many moments that came full circle, so many loose ends tied up. It really makes me want to cry. The way we saw Gloria breakdown after years of trauma and compartmentalizing. After finally hearing them call it what is was, r*pe. It was really powerful. She tried to take her power back in so many ways but in the end she just broke and cracked and I’m glad the author didn’t try to make her go on like it was manageable, because it wasn’t. There were also many moments of understanding the why behind moments and behaviors, like the Duke and Colt push pull. The way Colt clocked Duke, he was just hating himself and looking for Mabel in the next best person. While being lost without his twin. I did love not having Baron in the book too, hate that guy. After reading Harper and Royal’s series I wasn’t sure if anything could be more fucked up, but there were moments in the Gloria/Colt/Dixie series that really took the cake. But I just know Baron and Dukes series will be the harshest!! Now Dixie….. I hate her with a burning passion. The way I read then reread when Gloria was reading her to filth. Every time Colt saw straight through her it was so satisfying. Also I never really put 2 and 2 together that Gloria was gaining weight because she was pregnant, but that tidbit and then it being royals or one of the twins, good luck to that baby born from hate and violence. By the end I skimmed over some of the final sex scenes, basically at the treatment center onwards. I knew too much and I’m glad Gloria and Colt were end game but I didn’t want any more sex scenes from them at that point. They’re also horny af and I was like ENOUGH lol. I’m just really proud of Gloria as weird as that sounds, she deserves good things and so does Colt. Earlier in the series I thought the Darlings were such bad guys but by the end of this series this juxtaposition has been created between the darlings vs the dolces and the differences between how they ruled. We already knew it was different and the dolces ruled with violence both physical and sexual, but by Gloria’s trauma being broken down and Dixie being exposed it really brought everything in to the light. No more hinting no more hiding. Idk I feel like I could think about and talk about this book for ages. It’s kind of haunting thinking about some of the scenes where Colt was just being sweet because of his addiction and Gloria was allowing really violent sexual things to happen to her as a survival method. This is probably the authors best work imo.

🚩SPOILER🚩

About 95% of the book was pure gold. It was angsty and absolutely insane. Colt and Gloria’s story comes to a conclusion with them literally driving off into the sunset.. it was one of the most traumatic and hard roads that any of these characters have had to go on, especially with Colt being constantly manipulated by Dixie, but this book, he finally has the truth of what happened before his attack and memory loss. He goes through addiction and there’s just a lot of layers with each character. This whole universe is absolutely dark and twisted especially for characters that are so young.
The last 5% of the book left me just feeling gross. And this is going to be all spoilers.
I felt that the trauma of getting pregnant through rape, while yes, it happens in real life, I don’t think it was necessary to dump that in the book the very end. Gloria has gone through literally everything horrible. She was the fallen queen constantly being coerced and forced from the guys at school, she was the black sheep of her family, and battled through so much bullshit throughout the story. Then having to go to prison, losing her dream of college and her future, and getting pregnant by her rapists’ who she doesn’t even know exactly who the father is was just too much.
Then we have Dixie, who was literally, the biggest scumbag of the entire storyline got away with absolutely everything. She became famous and got her dream which I am totally confused on why.
Maybe she gets her karma and the next series.
I don’t know. The whole ending was just super fucking confusing.

Gloria and Colt have nothing back at home and basically run away. They only have each other and I just really hope that these fake fictional characters aren’t trauma bonding but do end up loving each other till the end. This isn’t really even a review. This is just venting at this point. I loved and hated this book so much.
No one had Gloria‘s back at all truly. So I’m giving this book a solid 3.5 stars because that ending was absolutely bullshit.

And all the triggers 😈

Here we go or should I say here we Glo? Just kidding that was cheesy but here we are finally with book 4 ❤️ As I was doing a whole series read, I jumped right into book 4, of course, The Envy 💚
The last two books have been genius character/worldbuilding, and now we get to be of the main event Colt and Gloria. At this point, we know who they really are now inside and out., now, all that awaits is to unravel how it ends.
In this fourth installment, the Angst is next level right from the get-go. Not even 10% in the book and you’re already panting for more 😜
Throughout the book, the emotions back-and-forth are felt to your core. One minute you hate Gloria the next minute you hate Colt and the next chapter. You just wanna yell “just have a conversation”
What was unexpected in the book was the involvement of all of the other characters that have always sort of been in the background, and you had a bit of an idea of their temperaments in this book see the connection between all of the side characters - cue begging for a Maverick Book 😈
Spoiler Alert…. we all hate Dixie, right?
I initially was unsure of how Selena was going to bring everything together in the end and and wondered if it was going to be like so many other books out there. Angsty big fight make up happily ever after. It quickly becomes obvious that that is not how this book is going to go.
I love how throughout the book we get to fight alongside low and cold. We get to cry alongside them and we get to ultimately fall in love right along with them ❤️❤️❤️
I love this couple, I love this book and I love how Selena’s always surprises us and and leaves us satiated 🙏🏻 thank you once again for a beautifully dark love story.

Gloria and Colt… ugh, these two. When I first started on my journey of reading Selena’s books they were just there. Colt had been there from the beginning and I enjoyed his place in the first series. In the Exile series these two became more to me and I started to see the good in them both. Getting to finally embark on their journey for the past four books was so worth the wait!

I hate to read a review that tells me the plot even without spoilers so I will just say this. Selena gave us the final book in their series just the way she always does. In her own way. I don’t think it’s the ending that everyone would love and want, but I truly think it is perfect for these two. Did I hope for certain endings for some of the characters and not get them? Yep! But, the endings for them fit with how they have always fit in the Faulknerverse!

I cried for these two and I laughed with them. I wanted to rip my hair out and I know I yelled at the book quite a few times, but I have done that with every book.

For everyone that has been on this journey since Crystal and Devlin, this book is another jewel in the crown of WHPA. I dreaded finishing because I knew that all there is left of this world now is the Dolce twins duet.

Gilded Fake is a must read for any Selena fan and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!

I was sent a free copy of this book, but the review is given freely and of my own opinion.

This series has had me obsessed from the first book, and I absolutely loved the final book Guilded Fake. If I could give this book and series more than five stars I totally would. I devoured this book in one day and was sad when the final ending came. I loved the suspense, drama, betrayal, and scorching hot spice throughout this series, and enjoyed all the feelings I felt in this book. I'm not gonna lie I fist-pumped a few times while reading this book. I am team Gloria and will be even if a certain snake of a character gets a book. I thought this book was original and page-turning. I love Selena's writing style, she is raw, and gritty, and created a beautifully written and heartbreaking story for Gloria and Colt. My heart broke and soared for both characters. They had an undeniable chemistry and had a long road they traveled to get where they wanted to be. Selena has a way of bringing the most dark stories and adding the right amount of light to them. This book is a dark High School bully romance and touches on dark themes and topics. It is part of the Willow Heights Prep Academy and book four in The Envy series. It can't be read as a standalone so you will want to start with Dirty Demise!!! Be prepared for a wild ride!!!!

Not the ending I expected (Spoilers below)

I’ve come to realize that when you read a Selena book, you get a trauma bonded HEA. Obviously, that’s not my favorite, but the characters keep you invested because you want them to be happy and see the redemption. I really loved Colt from the beginning. He’s the typical Ahole jock you read about in bully romances which is why I think I gravitated towards him so much. Gloria is the Queen B you love to hate but she’s so much deeper than the surface you see. Dixie is definitely the undercover Villian that you can’t wait to see get taken down. -spoilers-

I can’t believe after reading book after book of depravity done to all these characters that that is how Dixie’s Villian story ends! Are you messing with me right now 🫠 Like…. That has to be a joke except no one’s laughing. Gloria paid for all the things she didn’t do wrong and got violated until the end! Dixie got broken up with and has the fame and status she’s always wanted smh. I couldn’t give this story 4 stars after that. It’s wild to me that it took that long for the “truth” to come out and he cried guilt and stayed with her for like 70% of the book and she destroyed him the whole time. Absolutely not! I think the road ends here for me cause that is wild 🙃

Gilded Fake is book 4 in the Willow Heights Prep Academy: The Envy series. It is part of a series, so cannot be read without reading the other books in the Envy series. It is the final part of Colt and Gloria's story and I couldn't wait for its release. It definitely didn't disappoint. If you've read Selenas books before, you know what you're getting.
I love the characters of Colt and Gloria, and their story throughout the 4 books has been entertaining to read. I loved seeing these characters grow and really enjoyed the combining of the past and present in the story that helped fill in the gaps of Colt and Gloria's story. I also thought the ending was perfect for these two. They are my second favourite couple behind Royal and Harper. Another great story, I love this universe, and I can not wait for Duke and Barrons' story.

Besides Preston colt was one of my favorite characters and Gloria too I never ever cared for Dixie from crystals book and this one I just have nothing really to say I was upset I felt that Dixie pushed Gloria to the point where she had no choice but to react the way she did and I felt like Dixie didn't get what was coming to her but Gloria got the worst of it and colt pissed me off in this book he claimed to love Gloria but left her out to dry most of the time it just pissed me off and I always knew colt would leave town but I felt like the ending was really week who was Gloria child father and she gave the kid up the pain she endured was far worse then what Dixie got and then colt comes at the end saves the day it's like well where were u the whole book...this was sadly not one of my favorites in the series I honestly think they should have gotten a better ending and Dixie needed to be bumped off 😭

“Whether he gives me galaxies or death, whether he lifts me to my feet or conquers me, locks my cage when he’s done or sets me free…”

The fourth and finally book for Colt and Gloria’s story. Whewwww 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 these two endured soooooo freaking much. I’m so glad they finally got their HEA. Dixie is a true narcissistic b!tch. This whole book is full of trauma and how these two never gave up on each other and ALWAYS found their way back. It’s is kind of a bittersweet ending but I both cried and was so happy by the end. Now I’m just ready for Duke and Baron’s story. Before reading please understand Selena’s books are bully dark romance and HEAVY on the trigger warnings (these are actually meant more for people with no trigger warnings). No one truly writes bully romance like Selena…..you’ve been warned.

I wanted more payback

F*ing Dixie! I have never despised a character more than I do Dixie and I wanted soooo much more for her to suffer. Gloria and Colt are such a tragedy of the environment but also each others saving grace. I love how they both developed from the shallow beings they were before but I’m so sad they wasted so much time not talking and sorting things out! I’m seriously angry about the Dixie situation and I found myself swearing at her moments in the book. Colts storyline was a beautiful broken love story. I feel like I want to say so much more about this book but don’t want to give spoilers. That ending though!!! I can’t wait for the Twins storyline to come out and have it traced and brought back to where this one ended. I love this series so much and highly recommend it to anyone who love dark twisted messed up characters and their action.

Ok I’m officially upset how this ended - only because Dixie went off and did what she always wanted to do?! I wish Gloria ran her over with the car and ran her back and forth then escaped 😂 JK though (kind of) Maybe we’ll find out something awful happened to Dixie in future books.
I’m not even sure I can stomach reading about the twins as much as I love toxicity in my books these guys are literally pieces of shit. (I’m still going to read it because Selena’s writing is 🔥 and Baron does intrigue me… what can I say, I love fictional sociopaths.

It’s so rare you get to see these kinds of characters seek therapy or help for their trauma. I was actually really happy to read Gloria and Colt getting the help they needed then reconnecting. It broke my heart a little about the baby experience but I commend the character for doing what she did.

I’ve loved every minute of Colts story and I loved this book but and it’s a pretty big but I’m not entirely sure if I liked the ending, I’m a bit conflicted by it. It’s quite bittersweet and the characters I was rooting for got their very emotional HEA.

But I wanted more and without giving spoilers away I feel a little bit dissatisfied with how it all played out.

However I’m here for the long game and I think it might all come full circle with the twins book which I’m incredibly excited for. I don’t think we’ve seen the last of all the characters just yet. And I hope more than anything a few characters really get their comeuppance.

I can’t wait for the twins story and to finally meet Mabel.

This. Book! I have been waiting for this to see how Colt and Lo's story concludes and I was not disappointed. The character growth through Colt's series for him and Lo have been amazing, especially in this book. I have been rooting for these two to make it and they certainly took me on an emotional roller coaster. We get some questions answered and some not. There are a couple of people who I thought got off lightly, by getting what they've always wanted, so I'm hoping we see them in the twins book and they get some karma. They certainly deserve it. Selena's writing hooks you in and leaves you wanting more. This whole world that she has created is dark and delicious and I'm glad I'm along for the ride! Bring on the twins book!!!

This was the perfect end to Colt and Lo's story. You finally get to see what happens the week after Colt broke up with Dixie after Bye Week. A lot of questions were finally answered. You get the full picture of what all has happened between Colt and Lo it really is heart breaking. You get to see and experience the full character of Gloria which I thought was eye opening. You don't really understand the full magnitude of what she had to go through until the end. Colt's relationship with Duke is explored and a true friendship is blossomed. Can't wait to see what will happen in the next installment.

Oh my god. I loved this so much! It did make me mad throughout most of it because of how much I despise Dixie, but it was all important for the overall storyline. This was amazing and I’m so glad that Colt and Lo get to leave and just be happy now. Both of them have been through so freakin much and they deserve to have that. It was the perfect conclusion to their story. I do wish Dixie wouldn’t have survived the book, but beggars can’t be choosers I guess. After that little teaser in Duke’s P.O.V. I am very excited for his and Baron’s story.

5 STARS for Gilded Fake by Selena

This read is not a standalone but Book 4 in the Envy Series

Many have been waiting for Colt and Lo’s epic conclusion and it is just that epic ! The two have been favorite characters of mine especially Colt.

The only sad thing about ending these books is the characters are no longer really floating around in my head & heart. A sign of an excellent well crafted story & characters. Sad yes but they got their somewhat unexpected end to their HEA !

Selena is one of my favorite authors and why I so love the genre she writes in covering every single emotion.

Excellent !

“Gilded Fake” ends the four-book series within the Willow Heights Prep Academy universe that Author Selena created––and a turbulent one for Colt Darling, Dixie Powell, Gloria Walton, and Rylan Woods. “Gilded Fake” must be read in order—you won’t regret it. The entire universe will pull you in, and you will want to know everything about everybody and how they connect.

Author Selena writes very dark and heavy enemies to lovers that will sometimes cause readers to feel anger, sadness, excitement, and shock. “Gilded Fake” is all of that and more. But that makes this story one that you won’t want to put down.

Ok wow! Colt & Gloria’s final chapter in the Willow Heights series was such an amazing read. I’ve filled this entire series from the beginning but seeing the redemption in these characters as they find their way through this chaotic high school was gripping. Finished this one in one day and loved every minute. Selena writes in such a way that while reading I can feel every emotion. The ache and pain with loss. The joy and passion with love. I highly recommend this book and rate it a 5/5 stars. Can’t wait to read the Twins story that’s coming out next year!

Colt and Dixie, Colt and Gloria, it goes on and on... memories lost, half truths spoken, truths hidden for honest and nefarious reasons... we know them all. This story is the fall out. It's the eyes wide open, I see you, you're caught story. It's the altercations we've been waiting for. But Selena's not predictable no. She throws in some dousies and some twists no one would see coming. The story is anything but status quo. It's got all the bad and the good rolled up in some karma for your reading pleasure enjoy!

Fantastic

I have to say I absolutely love this series. I mean, it is just downright dirty, lol. I rallied for Dixie in the previous books, but damn I really hate that girl. I would have loved to see her fall from grace for good. The ending of the book took a turn. I did not see coming and not sure how I feel about it. I think I honestly would of liked to see a different scenario of how Lo and Colt got together, but I guess it fits. Can not wait for Duke and Baron's story, but dang March of 2025, it is a long time. I will have withdrawls, lol.

It took me less than a day to finish this book. I just couldn’t put it down.

Oh wow, I’ve been waiting for this book forever!
Can’t believe it’s finally here.
What is you secret to creating the best books!????
I’ll never stop repeating that if I had to read one author for the rest of my life, that would be Selena.
It was the perfect conclusion for Colt and Lo, we could see all that happened before and understand them so much better.
The rest of the characters are developed really good as well.
Can’t wait for the next book!!
