This book is an action-packed slow-burn fantasy romance with dragons, witches, hidden identities, a magical cursed hunt, touch HIM and 💀, and sooo much tension!
I LOVE a fierce FMC - and this 👏🏻 book 👏🏻 delivers! 👏🏻
Meira is a scale rider - she’s part of a legion of warriors who ride their bonded dragons into battle on behalf of the emperor and those who are oppressed. Oh, and they also hunt witches. 👀
Meira is deadly, fierce, strong, confident, and sassy. I love how we get to see how the different sides of her - the elite dragon warrior, the protector, the secret schemer, the merciful hunter, and the conflicted romantic. The MMC, Remis, is a charming cinnamon roll. Their banter with the tension and angst was so captivating to read.
A Cursed Hunt is full of mystery, suspense, twists, turns, and surprises. The cliffhanger was a complete shock! I can’t wait to see what happens next.
What is not to love? This has time travel magic, dragon riders, and witches. This combines romance, adventure, and mystery, and manages to deliver a story that is both richly layered and intensely engaging.
Meira, a dragon rider and secret witch, awakens remembering the compelling face of a stranger. A witch's curse burns to life in the palm of her hand and magic dictates that she hunt this man down. Remis and the tangled web of their fates forms the backbone of the story but most of the story is spent on their travels and getting to know them. This is a slow burn relationship with some shared visions as the magic draws them towards one another; much to their chagrin. Meira’s journey is driven by her need to recover her lost memories of this man and Remis is terrified of the witch hunting him for unknown reasons. The dynamic between Meira and Remis is electric, with a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase that I just adored. Their interactions are filled with tension and chemistry. I love that Meira is the strong one and that Remis is so into that aspect of her. He respects her fierceness but also recognizes that sometimes the tough ones also want to be chased a little bit. Love me some primal action!!! The romance is well-crafted, with just the right amount of tension and attraction, enhancing the story without overshadowing the broader adventure.
The world-building is wonderful and nuanced. You can tell that there's a rich backstory and history in every aspect of the story. I especially love the politics and the dragon riders. I am really eager to explore this world in future books further. Especially after that ending!
Meira is a formidable heroine, and her determination and resilience are inspiring. Nikremis’s journey from a man avoiding his father’s wrath to someone who embraces his destiny is equally compelling. The supporting characters and the bond with Meira’s dragon add depth and they make the world feel lived-in and authentic.
The cliffhanger is both tantalizing and frustrating, as Grey skillfully sets the stage for future developments and deeper explorations of the characters and their world. Overall, it is a beautifully written and thoroughly enjoyable read.
Thanks to the author and Hidden Hollow Tours for the copy. This review is based on a complimentary pre-released copy and it is voluntary.
A Cursed Hunt is an enchanting and gripping tale that weaves together the destinies of two compelling characters, Meira and Nikremis. From the very first page, the reader is thrust into a world of magic, mystery, and perilous adventure, making it impossible to put the book down.
The story begins with a spell gone wrong, leaving Meira with no memories except for the hauntingly handsome face of a stranger. This stranger, Nikremis, becomes the anchor to her forgotten past and the key to her future. Desperately trying to recall her memories and save her dragon, Meira embarks on a dangerous quest to find Nikremis.
On the other hand, Nikremis is a young man with his own set of problems. He dreams of unleashing his magic, a power he has been yearning to harness fully. However, he must also navigate the treacherous waters of his father's wrath. When fate brings Meira into his life, Nikremis finds himself entangled in a quest far more deadly than he ever anticipated.
Meira and Nikremis are both richly developed characters, each with their own struggles, desires, and growth arcs. Meira's determination and vulnerability make her a relatable and inspiring protagonist. Her journey to regain her memories and control over her destiny is both heart-wrenching and empowering. Nikremis, on the other hand, is a complex character with a mixture of strength and fear. His internal conflict between unleashing his magic and avoiding his father's anger adds depth to his personality. Watching him evolve as he confronts his fears and embraces his destiny is truly captivating.
One of the central themes of the book is the power and unpredictability of magic. The author masterfully portrays magic as both a blessing and a curse, capable of bringing both joy and sorrow. This duality is mirrored in the relationship between Meira and Nikremis, whose bond is forged in the crucible of magic gone awry. It is also the struggle for identity and memory. Meira's quest to remember her past and define her future resonates deeply, reminding readers of the importance of self-discovery and the resilience of the human spirit.
The author's writing style is lyrical and evocative, painting vivid pictures of the magical world and its inhabitants. The pacing is well-balanced, with moments of intense action interspersed with quieter, introspective scenes. This balance keeps the reader engaged while allowing for deep emotional connection with the characters.
As a reader, I found myself deeply immersed in Meira and Nikremis's journey. The blend of magic, romance, and adventure struck a chord with me, making the story both relatable and fantastical. The author's ability to craft such a compelling narrative with multi-dimensional characters made this book a memorable experience. One particular moment that stood out was when Meira, despite her lost memories, instinctively trusted Nikremis. This scene beautifully captured the essence of their connection and set the tone for their evolving relationship. It reminded me of the power of intuition and the bonds that transcend memory and time.
Overall, it is a spellbinding novel that captivates the reader from start to finish. With its rich character development, intricate plot, and evocative themes, it is a must-read for fans of fantasy and romance. The story of Meira and Nikremis will stay with you long after you turn the last page, leaving you eagerly anticipating the next installment in their magical journey.
I'm so grateful to the author and @hiddenhollowbooktour for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
"A Cursed Hunt" is a thrilling blend of dragons, magic, and romance that will leave you eagerly awaiting the next installment.
Rebecca Grey’s writing grabs you from the first page and doesn’t let go. Every twist and turn kept me on the edge of my seat, fully immersed in the world she’s created. The intricate plot and rich character development make this book a standout in the fantasy genre.
Meira’s journey from mystery to discovery is beautifully depicted, and her dynamic with Remis adds depth and intrigue. The slow-burn romance and intense chemistry between them had me hooked. The unexpected twists and suspenseful moments were the highlights for me.
Thank you Rebecca Grey & MTMC for providing me with a review copy. All opinions are my own and unbiased. 🖤
YESSS YESS YESS!!! That's what I'm talking about. That's an amazing fantasy book with dragons and witches. With absolutely excellent world-building and truthful real characters. Meira is a witch, with a fiesty attitude and she has those black cat personality traits. Mean and walls high up. But deep down she's vulnerable. I loved that we have FMC who is the hunter. Not the other way
Remis, oh Remis. Loved him so much. He's easygoing and charming. But also very protective. I loved it so much. The tension and chemistry between these two were so good. The last 25% of this book had me on the edge of my seat. Where is book two??? I couldn't put the book down after half done. Ohh, the chase scene. But it was too short for my liking. I think it's my problem because I like them spicey. The plot was amazing. And I believe we have amazing world-building in the next books. (Yeah I'm already assuming there will be more than one, but I have no idea) And of course, it ended with a cliffhanger!!! Percy and his books were priceless😂
If you're looking for a slow burn, fast-paced action romantasy with dragon riders, witches, danger, magic, only one bed, and great characters? Then you gotta grab this book!
Meira is a dragon rider but also hides secrets of her own. She awakens with missing memories and a mark on her palm. Elsewhere, Remis also wakes up with the same mark on the same day he is forced to set out on a mission by his father. These two will discover just how they are linked through the course of this story - and into the next one too.
I loved how this book was written! Meira and Remis don't even meet up in person until the last third of the book, but the pacing and story never dragged for me. It was a great slow burn. And notice how I said in person? Yeah! But once these two do meet - ohh, the chemistry and banter is top tier.
And the ENDING! OMG. I need book 2 immediately lol
Also I loved Remis' friends and I really hope they show back up in the next book. I am Percy lol, he is me in romantasy book form haha.
I received a book for an instagram book tour. My thoughts are my own.
{𝐌𝐘 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒} A fun and fast-paced first installment in the new The Wings & Witches series, I was immediately sucked in to this book thanks to the fantastic premise. A spell goes wrong, causing witch Meira to lose her memories of Very Important Things. The only thing she does remember is she’s supposed to be tracking down a handsome stranger. There’s some bigger forces at play, as both the stranger and Meira are seemingly drawn to each other, and once they find one another, the adventure begins. With slow-burn romance, immediate chemistry, witty banter, and plenty of action and adventure, this book was engaging from start to finish. I loved the time travel aspect, I loved the amnesia/memory loss, and the inclusion of dragons and dragon riders was a huge bonus. Pick this one up if you enjoy: ➽ Dual POV ➽ Slow burn Fantasy Romance ➽ Dragon Riders aka Scale Riders ➽ Witches ➽ I’m supposed to kill you (but fall in love with you) ➽ Amnesia Trope ➽ Touch him and 💀
Meira wakes after a spell gone wrong, and remembers nothing but the face of a man she does not remember. She is desperate to find him, but desperate to be done with him. The stranger has his own issues to deal with: he wants to unlead his magic, and avoid his father's wrath, but the breath of the woman hunting him down his neck is ever distracting.
I really loved this one! Meira and Remis are destined to cross paths, and I really enjoyed following both their journey apart and together. They have amazing chemistry together and the banter is top-tier. Even though it takes a while for them to meet, the plot otherwise is fast paced and it doesn't feel lacking at all.
For you if you love:
🐉 Fantasy romance ❤️ Tension and spice 🐉 Amnesia trope ❤️ Dragons 🐉 Dual POV ❤️ Only one bed
Thank you to Rebecca and MTMC Tours for a review copy of this one! All opinions are my own.
This was such a good read and I loved the world building! Dragons, magic and romance is a favourite combination of mine 🐉✨❤️
We follow Meira, a fierce scale rider, on her journey to recover her memory and find the handsome man she keeps remembering. She’s protective, confident and such a well written character!
Remis, an aspiring mage, is our golden retriever MMC. He’s everything you could want and the banter between Meira and him is so freaking good 🥰
The CHASE SCENE in the townhouse!! 🥵 and that cliffhanger in the end 😭 I need the next book now!
It has dual POV, banter, witches/mages, dragon riders, only one bed, slow burn fantasy romance and touch him and die 💀
I enjoyed this a lot in the end but the pacing overall was just off. I found myself struggling to care about the characters through the first 100ish pages, which is a good portion of the book so that’s not great. But then once it picked up, things got good & I was hooked. Plus, that cliffhanger ending(!!!). Looking forward to book two because I need to know more asap, but just unfortunately took a while to get into this one.
Okay, so I have conflicting feelings about this book. The ending was strong, and what a cliffhanger! However, given that the two POV characters don't meet until halfway through, the pacing was confusing for me. The second part felt rushed in comparison to the first. It also felt like there were a lot of elements that would get lost and reappear along the way. We have dragons, dragon riders, witches, mages, warlords, time travel, curses, and I'm probably forgetting something. After seeing how it ended, it's a cool premise, but it was a confusing journey to get there.
Thanks to the author for an eARC of this book for an honest review.
Okay so I won’t lie.. I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy this as it took a while for me to get into it but I love dragons & fantasy romance & everything this book has so I wanted to keep going & I hit around 60% & then I was HOOKED. Everything fell into place & it was gripping.
‘You will beg for mercy when I’ve brought you so thoroughly to climax that your body has gone utterly limp.’
Meira and Remis find themselves bound together by a mysterious mark on their hands, which seemingly appeared out of nowhere. As they are drawn toward eachother, they begin to untangle the mystery of their intertwined fates, and discover that their history is perhaps more connected than they thought.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Review:
I. LOVE. A. POLISHED. ARC. I LOVE it. Please read this book!!
I have read popular, well-regarded, chart topping books with less polish and less originality than this book. I am SO grateful to have been a part of this ARC team!
Meira is a strong, confident black cat of an FMC. She has walls up, she is protective of herself and her feelings but she knows who she is while trying to figure out who she wants to be. She is complicated and such a well-defined character. Her relationship with Mrithun, her dragon mount, is charming and everything you want in a dragon rider scenario.
Remis is *chefs kiss* give me more please. A perfect counterpart to Meira’s black cat energy, he is a bold and strong golden retriever MMC who loves and feels fiercely. His besties Merritt and Percy also gave me Fred/George and Merry/Pippin vibes and I couldn’t help but smile whenever they shared the page. I would also be loyal to friends like them.
And that SCENE. In the TOWNHOUSE. With the CHASING. 🥵🥵🥵 that’s all I’ll say - you’ll have to buy the book to know what happens.
Overall this book is easily one of the best I’ve read this year. Rebecca created such a vibrant world with such an interesting backstory, I can’t wait to read more.
A Cursed Hunt comes out on May 31, 2024 - go preorder/ add to your TBR!!
"Run, my little rabbit, run. Her voice was sinfully sensuous and the sound of her threat repeated in his head."
𝙏𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙨: ✨️Dual POV ✨️Slow Burn Romance ✨️Dragon Riders aka Scale Riders ✨️Witches ✨️Amnesia Trope ✨️Touch him/Touch her and ☠️ ✨️One Bed ✨️Forced Proximity ✨️I'm supposed to unalive you (but fall in love with you)
I'm a big mood reader and I tend to review based on how the book made me feel, and let me tell you... I could not put this one down. It has dragons, it has magic, it has romance, and the slow burn was burning. You spend a good part of the book waiting for the main characters to meet, which causes a lot of tension when they do 👀. You do get one spicy scene, however, it was cut a little short for my liking (but keep in mind ... I'm a sl♡t for spice 💅). However, the banter and chemistry between Remis and Meira made up for it.
“Maybe there is something fundamentally wrong with me. Maybe I like being chased by beautiful women clad in leather and curves I could sink my teeth into.”
If you're a mood reader like me and you want something quick that will keep you on your toes and leave you wanting sooo much more with the cliffhanger... than this book is for you 👌.
“If you’re not careful I might let you fulfill every dirty little promise you make me as you try to plead for your life.”
I devoured this book and I truly can't wait for book 2 !!
*** Please note, although I received this ARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own ! ***
It’s quotes like this that do me in every time! Did our dragon riding witch who’s on the hunt just force her prey to his knees and beg? You bet, she did! I love the role reversal in this book!
𝘈 𝘊𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘏𝘶𝘯𝘵 features Meira and Remis who are somehow bound in a game of cat and mouse. There is so much mystery behind this hunt. With some of her memories gone, Meira has no idea why she’s cursed Remis to be hunted down, but she’s determined to figure out why.
After finishing this book, I still have SO MANY QUESTIONS! When I hit the cliffhanger on the last page, I actually turned the page thing there was more! I was WRONG and DISTRAUGHT. I will be impatiently waiting for book 2!
𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: Amnesia Only one bed Dragon riders Touch him and die Dual POV
𝗤𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: "If I'm," Percy sucked in a breath, "to die," he breathed the words out, "then I'll do so with my," he wheezed, "book."
Remis had always been terrible at hide and seek and now that he was about to play the deadliest version of it.
“I want to do more than touch you. I want to devour you." His eyes darkened. "Run from me, little witch, and I shall take your place as the wolf and hunt you down. Say the word and I'll give chase. Then when I have you, there will be no flesh on your body that I will not know completely. That I will not taste. And you-you will beg for mercy when I've brought you so thoroughly to climax that your body has gone utterly limp."
I really enjoyed the story of Meira & Remis and the world that Rebecca Grey built! Meira is hiding her true identity as a witch, and has lost her memories due to using her power of time travel. I felt like I understood Meira’s feelings as story unfolds by getting information as her memories start to return. I enjoyed the twist that unlike most books featuring dragons, the dragon riders in this story are looked down upon by society. There are one or two open-door spice scenes, but whew! The hunter & prey dynamic had me blushing. This book ends on a cliffhanger that will leave you wishing for the next book! I am excited to see more dragon interaction in book two.
Read this if you love: 🐉 Only one bed 🐉 Witches & dragons 🐉 Hunter & prey dynamic 🐉 Lost memories
Thank you to Rebecca Grey and Hidden Hollow Book Tours for providing me with a copy of this book. This review is voluntary, and all opinions are my own.
There’s so much packed into the story, the world, and the characters, that you’ll find it difficult to be bored for even a moment. Grey has done an excellent job building a unique world, with magic and dragons. We get to explore it little by little and learn more as we switch Remis’s and Meira’s POVs. I love how different their lives are, but how entwined their destinies have become. I loved them both after meeting them, and I could appreciate how each is facing down serious danger. Meira is clearly conflicted, and Remis is just trying to make his father happy enough to send him off for mage training. I love the idea of magic being accepted as relatively new, but mages being highly integrated into life. The way the dragon rider’s dragons acted and reacted to their riders made me smile. The story itself moves along at a smooth pace, and the action scenes really get your heart racing. I can’t wait for book two!
I received this book as an ARC and here are my honest thoughts:
What I liked about this book -
I loved the grumpy sunshine element, the duel POV & of course, the enemies to lovers vibes. I love the idea of witches, mages and scale riders and think that this could be a very cool universe.
What I wish was a little different -
While this book was fun, I wish we had a little more about the world. In the beginning and at the end, Grey talks about the politics of the world but it seems lost in the middle.
The pacing also changed throughout the book and made it harder to stay engaged. The beginning had me so interested and it was fast paced then the middle got slow and felt like there wasn’t much movement.
That being said, the ending was intense and I loved it. I’m definitely looking out for book 2.
“Run from me, little witch, and I shall take your place as the wolf and hunt you down.”
Meira, a ruthless, highly trained assassin and dragon rider, is still recovering from a month’s long illness, has lost her memories but they haven’t affected her mission, to kill Remis.
Remis is an aristocrat sent on a business trip by his neglectful father with little chance of survival. Their meeting triggers Meira’s memories, clouding her judgment. It doesn’t hurt that he’s dangerously attractive.
In A Cursed Hunt, Grey keeps the reader on their toes. The novel is written from both points of view (Remis and Meira), and she does a fantastic job of describing not only their desires, but their fears as well. It has sword to the throat tension from Cruel Prince, dragons with sass and personality like Fourth Wing, sexy banter between a witch and her prey like Haunting Adeline.
I read A CURSED HUNT for the ARC review tour hosted by the author and Hidden Hollow Book Tours. Thank you to both for inviting me along and for the gifted physical ARC. I loved this book!
I love Meira and Remis. They have chemistry even before they realize what's going on. I'm really starting to enjoy the lost memories trope.
This story is fast-paced and action-packed. We have forbidden magic, dragons, a curse, kingdom politics, side characters you'll love, and a romance you'll cheer for.
Meira and Remis are each on their own mission, but their paths are about to cross in an unexpected way. When the inevitable happens, all hell breaks loose. I love the intensity of the chase and the battles. The last few chapters are nail-biting crazy. The ending?? OMG, what?? This cliffhanger! How long do we have to wait for the next book?
I highly recommend A CURSED HUNT to fans of fantasy romance, epic battles, lost memories, forbidden magic, slow-burn romance, witches, and dragons.
I finished this book last week and I liked it a lot. I love books written in 3rd person and dual/multiple POV, so this was already a good thing. I don't want to make spoilers, but I loved both the FMC and the MMC, Remis being my fave maybe. Their chemistry was a bit here and there at the beginning, it sounded like a slow burn (which I love). I hope to see more in the next book ** I found the first part of the book a bit slower and with so many elements to it, it was a bit difficoult to follow. Love the scale riders, btw. The second part of the book was fantastic, I think I read it in one day. THE ENDING! What a cliffhanger. I will for sure read the next book **
Witches, mages, dragons, and unique magic with a flirty MMC and cunning FMC.
The banter, chemistry, and spice between the MC's was 🔥 I just wish they would have met sooner in the book, but hopefully 🤞 we get much, much more in the next book 😂
I loved the bromance between Remis, Percy and Merritt. And of course the bond with Meira and her dragon - I loved how the bond evolved!
The book ended on a cliffy that will have me speculating until the next book 😂
Secondly....this book was so fun and exciting! I was dying for our main characters to meet in person and it was definitely worth the wait. If you want a book with dragons/dragon rider (mfc) and a cocky/charming mmc this book is it! I love how badass our mfc is. Their journey through the book did confuse me a little, but the story was still great. This book definitely has a lot of things I love: enemies to lovers, dragons, witches, awesome mc(s), mystery, banter. It also leaves you on a cliffhanger and I so badly want to know what happens next. I definitely recommend if you're in a mood for all the things mentioned. Plus there was a good amount of spice. Not too much buttt not too little either.
Rebecca Grey has delivered an intriguing start to her Wings and Witches series with A Cursed Hunt.
The story is told through 2 POVs Meira and Remis.
Meira is an accomplished scale rider with plenty of secrets working under the emperor’s rule. A rule that would see all witches dead.
Remis is a man with his heart set on going to school and learning how to harness his magic but with the sudden death of the great merchant Elton Hamza, Remis’s dreams are dashed by the will of his father, sending him instead to acquire Hamza’s businesses before anyone else can secure them.
A witches hunting mark will bind them on a journey to find the truth. With plenty of challenges, mystery and an ending that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat, A Cursed Hunt is definitely worth a read
I love any story that has witches, dragons, and magic and this has them all, so of course I jumped at the chance of reviewing it. Just like the artwork complimentary and rich A Cursed Hunt depicts insane chemistry between characters. It’s undeniably so well written. I really loved Meira and Remis’ connection. There’s a scene where Remis is holding Meira’a thigh while on Miera’s Bold dragon, Mrithrun and I literally swooned.
The author sets up the world, characters, and magic system in way in which the reader is able to extemporaneously connect with the story. So of course, I’m excited to continue the series.
Thank you @rebeccagrey & @hiddenhollowbooktours for this amazing opportunity & for sending me this beautiful, signed paperback and artwork!
There is so much to enjoy in this story: dragons, dragon riding, magic, witches, time travel and more The world building was done really well and really added to the backstory and history. One of the things I loved most about Meira was how strong and determined she was. She showed great resilience considering situations she was put in. Nik(Remis) had great character growth and development as well. There’s definitely a slow burn aspect as the two are drawn to eachother. The banter was wonderful too! Honestly I’m a sucker for anything with dragons but add in a fierce FMC as the dragon rider and I’m sold. The cliffhanger has me anxiously awaiting what’s next.
Thank you Hidden Hollow Tours for this copy for review!
I really liked the premise and concept of this book- but it fell a bit flat for me- maybe it was the pacing. I loved the characters and that she is a dragon rider hunting him, love that they have some secret past they do not know and we as the reader do not know- kept me reading to figure out those secrets with them. That being said, something about the pacing felt off and kept me from absolutely gobbling it up. The beginning was strong; I was not too confused or overwhelmed by the world building and fell in love with our two main characters pretty quickly. Somewhere in the middle we start getting less details, less information, and slower pace. The ending was good but definitely rushed. As a whole I enjoyed the story, it was just a bit confusing at points.
