"He looks like a God, a filthy, horny God between my thighs."

The ending with Lucky had me sobbing. This was adorable!

Caelan and Tor meet on an online dating app. They chat through the winter, catching all the feels, then Tor shows up needing Caelan's help finding his missing brother in some scary ass magical woods..
Their whole adventure in the woods was fun and entertaining. I was on edge, heart racing when they finally found Theo... then... what happened after?...I was PANICKING. upset. Sick.to.my.stomach 😭

Their romance gave me warm fuzzies. The way they would just snuggle into each other's necks for comfort. they were so tender, touchy n lovey-dovey. Awww, and their full moon mating 🥵 finger-fucking his wing slits. shewww weee. Jesus. I loved them.

I loved their lil group and all the silly banter. I had doubts about liking Seff (Caelan's EX), but he was my favorite. I hope we get a story on him..
Off to Roans and Theos book. I just know it's going to be juicy with all that delicious tension.

No cheating, sharing/ om.
Slight jealousy.
Seff is Caelan's ex. No on-page details from their hookups, but you can kinda tell Seff still had some feelings.
Torr talks about being a "slutbag" in the past, but no on-page detail.

Kind of a modern LGBTQIA+ Retelling of Hansel and Gretel... But they're not siblings, they're lovers - two lovely guys who defy all the initial clichés and are even more lovable because of it.
Their Vulnerability is so damn hot and both are not ashamed of feelings - even if their individual trauma makes it not easy to open up.
And all in all they are really cute together.

I'm totally amazed by the world, love the idea of this forest and especially the tavern and all the lovely magical beings.

Thank you for trusting me with an ARC, Ali - I enjoyed your story very much and am already excited about the next book.

This was so camp. I cannot express how much fun this book was to read. I think I finished it in 2 days; I could NOT put it down, and I had a smile on my face the whole time—it managed to make me laugh out loud on more than one occasion.

The characters are personable and feel very real. I actually do not like first person, and tend to avoid books that use this perspective, but after reading this book, I see the appeal: I felt closer to the characters, and it was easier to sympathize with them. Their emotions were my emotions. I also really liked the relationships; not just Tor and Caelan, but their friendships with others as well.

And the sex scenes? So good (and plentiful!). For some context: I have aphantasia. I can’t see images in my head, which makes it really hard to understand what things are supposed to look like, what’s happening, et cetera, especially when it comes to sex scenes as I feel a lot of authors expect you to fill in the blanks, but that was NOT the case here. The prose was vivid and descriptive. Not once was I confused about whose body was doing what. This all goes for the rest of the book, obviously, but sex scenes are important to me as a reader and I really appreciate how they were written here.

I did have some issues with the book. Some of the dialogue did not flow naturally and felt awkward to read, and I think there is some pacing issues—problems get introduced, and then are dealt with fairly quickly. There just isn’t enough time to build any tension or create any sense of anxiety in me as the reader. I also wish they dived deeper into fae magic, as I find it interesting. However, this did not detract from my enjoyment whatsoever. I like this book, a lot, and I can earnestly recommend it to anyone.

Overall, Whisper Wells was fun, silly, sexy, and full of adventure. I look forward to its sequel, and any other books Woods writes in the future.

I was provided an e-ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Overall, this was a good read that was fun, campy, suspenseful, goofy, and spicy. While this book had my dang blood pressure up waiting to see what would happen next and will everyone be safe, STRESSED, it was a joy to go on this adventure with Tor, Caelan, and close friends they didn't realize they had. This is the first book in a series so you are getting a lot of character development, world building, and history throughout this book. Although the book had me gripped, there are still places that need another edit because it didn't quite flow right, so I'm rating it in the low 4's instead of higher.

Tor and Caelan met on a dating app mainly set up for other beings to get together. The humans are aware of the magical creatures but they tend to stay away in their cities, while the beings are mostly in the woods. Caelan is of mixed blood so he gets shunned from both sides and leads a lonely life after the death of his grandparents. He has a homestead that he takes care of on his own and having a new friend, Tor, to talk to daily has been a light in his darkness. Tor is basically a spoiled rich kid, fae, who is rebelling against his parents demands of him. After a drunken night he meets Caelan on the dating app and they have an instant deep connection. Tor's younger brother goes missing and he goes to Caelan for help in searching the woods. This is where their adventure begins and their bonding, even though they don't know it. Heads up, there are several descriptive spicy scenes and honestly most of them weren't necessary. All except one is just a handy or blowy, there's only one full penetrative scene. Which makes sense really with them being out in the woods in a small tent where they're not bathing often, stressed, anxious, and they don't have lube (except what naturally secretes from Tor's 🍆). I liked the connection between the MC's and how they were what the other needed all along. They had already created such a strong bond over the phone before they ever met. They helped each other see how truly valuable they are, especially when they couldn't see it themselves.

The side characters were a wonderful addition and I'm looking forward to them having their own stories, especially Tor's brother Theo after his ordeal. I know that his book is next and that it will probably be very sad at first with him and his mate trying to heal from the trauma they endured in this book. Seff and Edith were everything in this book, in terms of support and helping lighten the mood when it was necessary.

I LOVE getting ARC’s from new authors and getting to support a knockout debut from day 1. Love it!!

Whisper Wells was so good. It was fun, goofy, sweet, a little anxiety inducing and overall a very entertaining read.

We get the story of Caelen, a part shifter and in the words of Tor, a total “lumbersnack” who’s been living on the edges of the Whisper Woods alone since the death of his grandparents. He meets Tor, a gorgeous iridescent purple Fae, whose brother has gone missing deep in the Whisper Woods. They depart on a Tolkien-esque rescue mission and of course, shenanigans and sexy times ensue.

This little fantasy adventure has everything, every kind of mystical being you can think of, a goofy golden retriever wolf shifter, an eccentric big sister bog witch, a big bad villain and a super sweet insta-love between two very different and yet perfectly matched beings.

I for one cannot wait for book 2 and anything else that Ali Woods writes!

So this was fun! I was engaged the whole book and am looking forward to reading more, which is more than I can say about 99% of what I’ve read this year. There were some things rushed and/or omitted and a few minor writing niggles, but otherwise I was entertained.

I received and ARC of this book through Booksirens.
I don't know what I was expecting when I started this book, but it sure wasn't a Gay fantasy with a little bit of spice. This started out fun to read, but then I got bored with it by halfway. It felt like a book that could have ended sooner than it did. I could definitely tell that the author didn't want it to end and just wanted to keep writing. I loved all of the characters, but especially Edith. This book had me laughing and even crying by the end of it.

Loved:
The MCs. Their relationship. Ooey gooey feelings. I even loved the lil miscommunications that were rightened very quickly. Like Caelan saying something that came out wrong to Tor and Tor being upset about it- As soon as Edith told Caelen what he said and how it was received he immediately apologized to Tor and they made up. I loved loved loved how smitten they were with each other.
Loved the adventure and danger and even loved Edith!

Buuuuut; I didn't like that it didn't seem like there was any sense of urgency on the road to looking for Theo. There were parts that made sense, the danger with the mermaid and the panic attack but then it sorta fizzled out and there was so much sex 🙈

And this niggle is very personal but I don't like when there are ex lovers involved and although Seff didn't keep trying to pursue Caelen there were a lot of moments that emphasized that he had stronger feelings for Caelen than Caelen had for him when they were together. Seff becomes a very important character and it's obvious he's getting his own book, he's a good guy and all sunshine and easy smiles but I just didn't see the need to have mentions of their tike together from Caelen's POV.

Caelen is 100% smitten with Tor and they've become a bonded pair but on the journey to rescue Tor Caelen feels bad about how cold it is and offers to share a tent with Seff and Seff laughs it off saying he wouldn't want to get on Tor's bad side. Seff and Caelen have moved into this platonic friendship but TO ME it's still not something I like reading in my romances. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tor is supposedly super beautiful and Caelen thinks Tor is too good for him but Caelen is the one that's CONSTANTLY being hit on by everyone? And it makes Tor possessive and jealous, which yah, I think is super cute but I wanted to see Caelen a little jealous too.

I didn't like that Caelen was sorta just accepting that Tor was going to leave him to go back home even though it made him feel sick . . . Thankfully Edith comes to the rescue again and Caelen gets his head out of his ass and apologizes for distancing himself from Tor and they make up.

So aside from those niggles I absolutely loved this couple and how much they loved and wanted each other. 🥺

He is too much for both sides of his being so he stays on the outskirts of both. This leaves him very lonely so he is glad when they return until he learns why. He is about to face a dangerous situation to help them. How will they get it done? How will they deal with it all? Can he find happiness as well with them? See how they get on

this is so cute

These two were so sweet I loved their journey. It wasn’t insta love but the caring happened fast and soon came the love. I loved how they started their relationship, it was so very swoon worthy. The writing was great, the smexy was ok. And I love the side characters.

Overall, Whisper Wells is a campy, spicy, romantic, adventurous delight.

The story follows Caelan, who is part-shifter/mostly-human, and Tor, who is all-the-way-fae, through The Woods to rescue Tor's brother, whose disappearance justifies the novel's grand adventure. Along the way, the couple *grows closer together* and gathers a group of quirky comrades, all of whom are well-drawn and likeable.

My consistent note throughout the book was, "I want to know what happens." As far as I'm concerned, that's a win.

That being said, my other consistent notes were, "This book needs another edit," "Stop saying things twice," "Enough with the adverbs," and, "BLOATED PROSE." These issues interfered with my reading enjoyment so much that I might have abandoned the book had I not committed to giving a quick ARC review.

The thing is, had the prose been tighter with far fewer phrases like, "It is actually really nice,..." or "...apparently significantly more often now than ever before...", the author could've given us more background about the secondary characters without lengthening the book. For example, we are told that Caelan and Edith have a history together, that she is "like the big sister [he] is glad [he] never had," but we get very little about their connection beyond that.

I also struggled to connect with the dual-perspectives first-person narration because there wasn't a noticeable difference in the two MC's voices. That it was written primarily in present tense also caused some problems since there were so many instances of random, muddy tense changes. This is something that another round of edits could've easily remedied.

In the end, the book was fun, and I will definitely read this author again. I just hope that between now and then she either hires out a late-draft editor or finds more targeted beta readers.

Whisper Wells is an engaging debut novel by Ali Woods and the first book in the Legends of the Whisper Woods series. The story is fun, suspenseful and a delightful blend of romance, mystery and adventure.

At the beginning, Caelan and Tor’s romance unfolds slowly, starting with their winter-long exchange of messages and culminating in an in-person meeting at the season’s end. I loved that they already had a strong bond before meeting in person, and it was a delight to watch them navigate how their connection translates to face-to-face interactions. Their overall awkwardness and nervousness was sweet, and their vulnerability endearing and refreshing. While their connection is believable and they are perfect for each other, some steamy scenes felt like filler.

The side characters are well-developed, adding depth and charm to the story. For me, Seff and Edith were definitely standing out in terms of providing support, but also in lightening the mood when necessary.
I hope Seff gets his own story, and I would love a heartfelt conversation between Caelan and Seff. It was heartbreaking to see how oblivious Caelan was to Seff's feelings and how he inadvertently hurt him. Someone should have pointed this out to Caelan, and Seff deserves a sincere apology from him.

Ali Woods demonstrates her skill in creating an intriguing and captivating world. The detailed world-building makes it easy to envision walking through the Whisper Woods with the main characters. The atmosphere of the woods really adds to the book's suspense, enhancing the anticipation of what will happen next and if everyone will emerge safe and sound.

As the first book in a series, Whisper Wells offers substantial character development, captivating world-building, and a hint of the series' history. While more historical context would have been appreciated, I presume we will get more history in the next book.
I would particularly love better explanation regarding the concept of bonded mates. The "explanation" we got in the book left me confused as to whether they were fated mates or chosen mates or a mix of both. I feel that needs clarification.
Despite needing a few more edits for a smoother flow, the book captivated me, and the minor issues did not detract from my enjoyment.

Overall, the captivating world-building, interesting characters, and lovely storytelling kept me engaged throughout.
I’m looking forward to the sequel and any other stories Ali Woods gifts us with.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my unbiased review.

Sweetly sexy Into the Woods–style magical romantasy adventure

Anything can happen in Whisper Woods, and here? It does. I had such a great time adventuring with part-shifter MC Caelan and fae MC Tor through the magical woods to save Tor’s brother (Theo, MC-to-be, book 2). It has that Into the Woods combo of deceptively light fairy tale with a dark and dangerous undertone.

The book begins with one of my favorite meet-cutes—meeting and getting to know/connect via texting. They meet through a hookup app and really hit it off. I was worried that Tor kept dating (they don’t meet in person for a while, just become good friends), but, it turns out none of those dates went well (despite Caelen’s overt support but inner sad worries) and I felt it was because these two were actually meant to be so no one else would do.

Tor’s a party-animal fae who works and dances in a city bar. Caelan’s a loner who lives on a cozy farm at the outskirts of Whisper Woods. Once they connect, a strong friendship forms, but then Tor ghosts him for weeks, only to turn up asking for Caelan’s help to find his brother, the academic Theo, who went on a research quest in the Woods and hasn’t been heard from since.

So begins a wild and steamy adventure, which involved seeing Caelen’s strong friendships with some folk of the woods who turn into terrific allies, learning Caelan’s sad history with his shifter pack relations (some OM drama there with his ex, but, didn’t cross the line for me and added fun tension to the story), and seeing Caelen and Tor accidentally create a lasting connection through magical ways that neither intended but that was clearly inevitable and right for them both. Fated-mates sensibility.

I wanted more clarity on that, actually, I wasn’t sure if it was somehow fated or if they just did all the right things and it could have happened with anyone if they’d been in those circumstances. I don’t like happenstance; I wanted to know They were meant to be, but, it did feel right, so...*shrugs.* I enjoyed learning about what that meant for them.

Secondary characters add layers and joy to the tale, including Caelen’s witch friend, his ex and shifter bestie, and his friends from the tavern deep in the woods. There is magic, mayhem, extreme danger, and yes, people nearly die. But working together and leaning in to friendship and love can help to overcome the worst evil, and experiencing it with them was both gut wrenching and...yes...fun. (Sorry guys, but, you nearly dying? Yeah, I had fun!) The adventure includes an amnesia element that just added strong complications to the shenanigans cake. I was there for it.

There is an almost too-quick development to the romance, but, with the friendship/texting setup, there was enough foundation and sense of fated-connection to support it and I didn’t mind how fast the romance escalated. There’s enough continued conflict that adds to romantic tension to keep anticipation high.

There is also drama with the pack his ex is part of and Caelan is related to that for me was unsatisfying/unresolved. Maybe they’re nice to him now, but, no one made up to Caelan for the past and I wound up pissed off on his behalf and not liking any of them much. His sweet ex included, on this element? F that guy. Caelen wasn’t as bothered as I was! 😂😡

HEA. Fated-mates sensibility (though again, not sure if that was actually the case). Opposites attract. Magical begins abound. Safe for me; though there is a bit of OM drama here and there, it just adds to the romantic tension in good ways, and it’s very clear these two are only for each other. Recommended, and I’m planning to read the next book, which is set up in this one.

My thanks to Gay Romance Reviews for the ARC; this is my free and impartial opinion.

I was caught by surprise by this book, I started reading this and could not stop. I needed to know what Caelan and Tor were going to get up to next. This book starts us off with these two MC's getting acquainted through a dating app. They are on opposite ends of the country, and yet despite the distance, these two men forge a bond with each other that both of them hold close to their hearts. When Tor's brother goes missing in the Woods that Caelan lives by, Tor decides to visit his friend, and ask for his help. And that, is where our journey officially begins.

Upon starting this story I quickly realized how much attention to detail Ali took with writing the background scenery. The way that the Woods were described, all the different creatures, the foliage, the fruits, the mythical beings, it was all truly breathtaking with how everything was described. The way Ali wrote the background made it easy to envision where the story was taking place.

There was quite a bit of mystery to this book, the plotline while yes was a romance, was also a mystery as well. One that Tor's brother was at the heart of. I thought the way that the questions kept piling up, and how the trek into the Woods uncovered more than both men were prepared for, really helped make this book intriguing. I was curious the whole time on what was going to happen next, and what was going on with Theo.

The romance part of this book I thought was good. Tor and Caelan developed a strong bond through their messages, and upon meeting in person, they were able to eventually continue to grow that bond, just in a slightly different way. I adored how awkward and nervous both of these men were around each other, it just made the story cuter. I will say that I thought some of the steamy scenes were just added to make the story longer, some of them didn't do much for the story other than to add steam.

The side characters were excellent! Seff was the comedian who helped cheer those around him up, Edith was the protective mama bear who is filled with knowledge, and Roan... Well he does what he can for those he cares for. I really enjoyed this book and how it was written. The way the story was told was captivating and kept me engaged. I'm looking forward to Theo's story! I need to know what's going on between him and Roan.

4.25/5 I enjoyed this debut from Ali Woods. As it starts, it feels like a relatively modern world that just happens to have magic and many magical beings in addition to humans. We get an online meet-cute between the MCs, and lots of text and virtual connections—until Tor shows up in person because his brother is missing in the big scary Whisper Woods, and he’s really hoping Caelan can help him find Theo.

At this point, we move to high fantasy adventure as we trek into the woods, with plenty of dangers (but also some old friends). (The MCs might have cellphones, but they don’t work in the woods. They have modern tents and mattress pads, but otherwise, they could be in Middle-Earth or Narnia at this point, lol.) The trek leaves some good opportunities for Caelan and Tor to get to know one another in person and realise/admit just what they feel for one another. We learn a bit about a variety of beings (some very dangerous) and a little about magic (fae and witch).

Caelan and Tor both have some issues with their self-worth, but it’s clear that they’re all in and they care a lot for one another. Edith and Seff and Roan (especially Edith) are highly entertaining friends companions. I liked that the rescue mission became very much a group effort, and Caelan and Tor definitely did not do everything.

I occasionally found the pacing a little off, but nothing unmanageable. (Although it wasn’t totally off, there were a couple times where I was in quest mode when Caelan and Tor were in sexy times mode, and I had trouble changing gears.) It’s a bit longer than most of the MM romance I read these days, but I was entertained throughout.

I liked how the woods were basically their own character, and how the characters had matter-of-fact non-modern practices like bringing little offerings for the sprites. This is a super rich world, and I look forward to seeing for of it and getting Theo and Roan’s story.

I received an ARC from GRR. This is my honest review.

I must put aside the veritable mountain of arcs I have coming up due because WTF, this book was so freakin good. I saw an ARC of book 2 available and I was like wow that looks up my alley, but I wanted to try book 1 first and WOW. Needless to say I sprinted back to get that ARC because I am now in love with this series.

It gives of really cozy vibes but do not be fooled! The drama is drama-ing! When it all hit the fan at about the 60% mark I was STRESSED. Not sure I even spared time to blink as I read tbh.

Ok so Tor and Caelen originally meet on a dating app, and while they feel instant connection it blooms into a close friendship first because they are on opposite sides of the country. But then Tor's brother goes missing in the magical woods, and Tor in a brilliant move recruits the help of his lumberjack sweetheart Caelen.

Because they'd already known each other for a while virtually, things progress pretty quickly once they are together. Caelen is the big, shy sweet type and it's just the cutest thing to watch Tor fall head over heels for him, and for Caelen to basically worship the ground Tor walks on. It's seriously very romantic, and because they like each other so much already all the spice is so sweet and genuine because I'm a terrible sap and they are IN LOVE. (But don't worry lmao if you're someone who doesn't care about the romance in the spice it is still PLENTY 🔥 on its own)

Obviously they go on many adventures in the Whisper Woods, tumbling with beings trying to eat them and other nefarious plots. It's a really fun story even without the stellar romance. I obviously loved it. Fantasy with a cozy element but still lots of excitement. AND THEO AND ROAN ARE NEXT afjgkdkrkgkfka I'm so excited. On to book 2!

(And Edith, my badass bitch, I would read any book about her doing literally anything. She has main character energy and I love her.)

Whisper Wells is a MM paranormal romance by Ali Woods, and is the first book in the Legends of Whisper Woods series.

In an intriguing world where shifters are known by humans, but there is a lot of stigma for shifters living in the human world. There is also some stigma for being a shifter. No one knows this better than Caelan Rourke, a shifter that has a bit too much human in him to be accepted by his pack located near Whisper Woods. There is also fae, as well. Tor Hivercouver comes from a rather well to do, city fae family. Thanks to his family, he has a lot of emotions to come to terms with.

Tor and Caelan meet on a dating app. The conversation flows freely in between them all. But that is only the start. When they finally meet in person, Caelan will do anything to help Tor to navigate the mysterious Woods, even go back to the pack that rejected him, to help save Tor's brother.

Since Ali Woods is a new to me author, I wasn't sure what to expect of the story or the vibe of it, even after reading the blurb. But I'm so glad I decided to take the plunge. I was absolutely blown away by the romance, the world building, the character development - everything. I can certainly say that I am more than looking forward to what's to come in Whisper Woods and the romance and healing that will undoubtedly be coming.

Whisper Wells

Ali Woods

Caelan - aka  HotDogBuns - lives on a private homestead near Whisper Woods, selling the furniture he makes and the specialty alcohols he brews to the town of Whisper Wells, which is none too friendly to 'beings' ie, those with paranormal blood, such as Fae and shifters.

Caelan is a large lumberjack with part shifter heritage, having been abandoned and dumped with his grandparents at age five.

Lately as winter closes in, he's been getting lonely for company, so joins a dating app, where he connects with the lithe, blonde 'Glitterballz', a bar tender and sometime dancer, who's also fae.

Tor, as Glitter is actually known, has een quiet for two weeks so far and Caelan is disappointed, convinced he's been ghosted.

They'd become friends, chatted at night, had shared movie nights at their separate places. He thought at the very least, they were friends.

But Tor isn't missing.

In fact, he's hunting for his own missing brother Theo, who's off on an adventure in the Whisper Woods searching for the key to long-lost fae magic.

When the two men finally meet in real life, it's adorable and awkward. But the friendship and the sizzling attraction are real.

Joining forces on a mission to find Theo brings them closer together revealing their vulnerabilities and strengths.

It's funny, cute, sweet and spicy, plus full of the danger that hides in the woods.

I expect we'll get more books in this world and I look forward to seeing them.

I’ve not read this author before and the blurb sounded really interesting. I thoroughly enjoy urban fantasy books that have a ‘quest’ vibe and this hit the spot.

Now I’ve called it urban fantasy as we have technology - cars/phones etc but most of the book is set in the magical woods somewhere it actually feels like a straight up fantasy books.

I liked our MCs. Both of them have depth, and didn’t feel one dimensional. They each had personal issues to work through such as insecurities, parental abandonment etc. it also wasn’t a fast burn as our MCs built a friendship over the phone for months before meeting it person. Plus it wasn’t all plain sailing, there was awkwardness and misunderstandings to work through.

I also enjoyed the quest element - the hunt for the kissing brother - and how this took us through the wood and introduced us to different magical beings without taking us away from the central plot.

Any negatives? We had our ‘big bad’ and I think I would have liked more in respect of the final attack so to say. I’m not doing spoilers here but it felt a tad easy in comparison to how powerful this being was.

We had an epilogue which I always need as it gives a snippet of their relationship once the drama is over with. We’ve also been set up for book 2 which I can’t wait to start.

I received this as an ARC from gayromancereviews.com however my views are 100% my own and if you look at my profile you’ll see that I don’t hesitate to give frank and honest reviews.

Caelan Rourke, is a young, single man. He's kind of a recluse. He lives by himself on a farm outside a tiny town. Most of the townsfolk put up with him, but they don’t really embrace him because he is a tiny bit wolf shifter. After enjoying a bit too much of adult beverages, he signs up for a dating ap. On this ap he meets fae Tor Hivercouer. So, I am happy to say that this isn’t an insta-love story. I mean it could be, but Author Ali Woods stretched out the timeline that all the action and non-action was taking place. Maybe a year or so after meeting online, Tor comes to town hoping to convince Caelan to help him go into the woods to find and possibly rescue his younger brother Theo.

I really don’t know what I was expecting when I started reading. I enjoyed Tor and Caelan’s relationship as it grew and I was goofy, happy whenever the two became awkward with each other and/or romantic together. I have to say that I loved all the ‘Supporting’ characters here. Edith, Seff and even Henny the chicken were great. This is the first book in the Legends of the Whisper Woods series. I’m hooked and I can’t wait to read the next story! By the way, my brain didn’t always play the Into the Woods song by Stephen Sondheim, just some of the time. ;-D

This was a fun read that had me feeling like I was right alongside the characters the entire time! You may enjoy this book if you like:

🩷 Found Family
🐺 Shifters, fae, and other magical creatures
⚔️ Adventure
👬 MM romance

The nitty gritty details:

Characters: our two main characters are both extremely loveable in their own ways. Each of them had great character development and you really got to see that as the story progressed. I adored most of the side characters as well.

World Building: I loved this setting of this book and felt like I was able to really see what the characters were. I do think this book would benefit from a map, though!

Spice: plenty of scenes that didn't feel like they were taking over the entire plot. But also not quite as spicy as I like my books.

Things I disliked: there were some grammatical errors, misspellings, and typos. Hopefully those will be addressed before release day! I also was not a fan of a couple of the side characters and would have loved to know more about them.. maybe in the next book?!

I received an ARC from Book Sirens and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you for the opportunity to read this!

A Joyfully Jay review.

Whisper Wells is the first book in the Legends of the Whisper Woods series and introduces characters left and right, already setting the groundwork for future books. It’s also a book that’s two-thirds story, one-third sex — which, nothing wrong with that, but it’s also fast. A good portion of Tor and Caelan’s relationship takes place off page. But I don’t want to read a book and have to fill in the blanks. I want the book to show me two characters falling in love.

While I didn’t feel that the character work was the strongest, which — as a character forward reader, I lean on to catch and hold my interest in a book — the set up (in between all the sex scenes) and the climactic big battle and the introduction of various side characters was technically well done. The pace was good, the writing is fine, and I’m curious enough about Theo to pick up the next book in the series when it comes out.

“Whisper Wells” by Ali Woods is the first book in the ‘Legends of the Whisper Woods’ series, and features Caelan, a part wolf shifter, and Tor, the fae who convinces him to travel deep into the woods to rescue Tor’s brother. The unlikely pair find an unexpected connection, but it may be ripped away before they can see what becomes of it.

This adult gay fantasy romance sets up a new series, and introduces a new world filled with a variety of creatures. Both main characters have dealt with the feelings of being an outcast, and it is heartwarming to see them learn to be each other’s safe space, but some aspects are a bit forced and erratic for me, and I had trouble connecting with the characters, especially the secondary ones. Having one character admit to not putting forth enough effort and then suddenly becoming really powerful was a bit disconcerting and confusing although it did extend the story line. Even so, I think this is a good start to the series and hope we get to know everyone and this world better in the subsequent tales.

'Stop!
A hot and hairy lumberjack who frolics in the forest and bakes?
I think I’m in love.'

I really loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. I absolutely loved both Caelan and Tor. They were really sweet together and I liked their dynamic. I always love a character who is kind of an outcast- torn between two worlds, not quite fitting in in either. So I thought I would be most drawn to Caelan. But Tor won my heart almost immediately from their first messages together. I just loved his personality and outlook. He and Caelan compliment each other so well and I loved the bond they had even from when they first meet in person.

'I can honestly say that this man in front of me could convince me to walk through the underworld barefoot in my underwear. And that was before I actually had him in my hands.'

This story was such a fun adventure and I was hooked. This was the first book I've read by this author and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series. 5 stars.

DNF @ 28%

I think I erred here because I had a certain expectation of what the story could be based on the blurb, when the author is new to me.

Up till the point I gave up, and since the 20% I started skimming to the 28% I gave up, the story revolved more around Tor and Caelan's budding, hallmarkesque romance than the reason for them traipsing through the woods. And I wouldn't mind that but for how much the Whisper Woods was mentioned till that point, so when it was their time to shine, well they were just a background drop.

Maybe later on things picked up on that point, but I don't have the patience to wade through endless internal musings by both MCs and limited dialogue with them flirting. Overly detailed descriptions of everything didn't help either because it was slowing everything down and I don't have the patience for it.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

ALL THE WARM FUZZIES 🥹

I love a good fantasy adventure story, and this did not disappoint. The world building was super interesting, especially with all of the mythical beings coexisting together. I appreciated the mystery surrounding the Whisper Woods, and the fact that there is clearly so much more to uncover there in later books. I like how we got just the right amount of info on each being to keep us wanting more.

Caelan and Tor are so freaking cute together. Again, I'm such a sucker for a good meet-cute and theirs was no exception. Their chemistry was instant and I love how they came to meet. I loved them together and the spice was hot hot hot.

The story and adventure itself was well explained and there was a clear objective with some razzle dazzle sprinkled in along the way. The side characters were giving what they needed to give, and made the story that much better.

If you love a good fantasy with low-angst, fun and loving characters, and something to fight for, you'll love this series!
