The Women by T.C. Boyle demonstrates the arrogance, chauvinism, conceit, lack of empathy of Frank Lloyd Wright. I was surprised...but then why.... it was basically the lifestyle of the times. Do I recommend reading this book? Why read it? Maybe just for the horror of realizing how little has changed.

I could not finish this book. Frank Lloyd Wright certainly seemed to have been a piece of work! This book follows the women that were either married to him or kept as mistresses. They all seem so insufferable, not just the women, but Mr. Wright as well. The way Mr. Wright's "intern" were treated was unbelievable. It seemed that Mr. Wright was stretched thin with funds because he mismanaged them and over-promised so much. I just couldn't stand to read any more of the whining of everyone. The author also just kept pontificating! ugh

Interesting and tragic story. Wright was a great architect but an arrogant, self centered and selfish man. He also had terrible taste in women! Being a fictionalized account,I don't know how accurate the portrayals of the women are, but if true, these people are awful. There is not one likable person in the book besides the Japanese apprentice and he is a fictionalized character.
