Rate this book
Rachel Maddox was 33 years old when she found herself in a German psychiatric ward suffering from acute psychosis and delusions. It would be two and a half years later and a week in an Irish psychiatric ward before she received a diagnosis - bipolar one. In this memoir she encourages those who find themselves or a loved one suffering from a mental illness. She shares the good news that you are not alone and there is hope! There is hope to not only survive, but thrive, even after you've reached your breaking point.

Wow, what a book. Rachel’s story is one of deep pain and suffering as she experienced the scary realities of a sudden onset of mental illness, but her vulnerability to share her story is such a beautiful picture of God’s care for His children in the midst of their darkest of days. This book is full of gospel truths, encouragement, hope, and joy. My personal understanding of mental illness has been broadened, and I found Rachel’s practical wisdom, information, and suggestions incredibly helpful as someone who has family members wrestling through similar diagnosis’s. I highly recommend this book to everyone! It’s a page turner but also a tool to know how to better understand and love our brothers and sisters in our lives.

I enjoyed reading Rachel’s journey as she starts with a mental breakdown and ends, not with the journey to healing over, but coming to an acceptance that she is wonderfully and fearfully made and has chosen to live her life with hope and peace even through her life-long diagnosis of a bipolar.
