Life for Ryder Collins and Grayson Harper is nothing but one never-ending road trip. For eight years, the two have traveled across the country hunting demons with a car full of weapons and snacks. Full of cheap motels, fast bar food, and terrifying adventures, the two hunters love their life together.
When the promise of a horror movie-esque demon sends the two to Wichita, Kansas, they get more than they bargained for. A single werewolf-demon is one thing, but a demon that turns hunters into the very thing they hunt is a different story. Will Ryder and Gray kill the demon before it’s too late?
...always…
The Wayward Sons is a MM bi-sexual romance novella full of road-trip shenanigans, steamy moments, and a whole lot of supernatural twists. Not suitable for readers under 18 years of age
Word Nerd, Connoisseur of adventures of a literary nature, Would die first in a Supernatural episode.
I’m an author, reader, and most importantly, a nerd. I love all things superheroes, demon hunters, and long-running movies and tv shows. I enjoy diving deep into characters and their stories, journeying with them while figuring out who they are. It’s the goal I have for all the characters I create and hope you find a way to connect with them.
For fans of Supernatural this is probably the closest you're going to get in a romantic quirky storyline.
These two men travel across America hunting demons, staying in shady out of town hotels, and eating twizzlers.
The relationship between Ryder and Gray is swoon worthy. They are a ride or die couple. Ryder us a powerful empath and Gray in one with earth and air. Between the two of them they are two different sides of a coin that makes for a story plot that had me smiling with their antics, on the edge of my seat during a hunt, and hot under the collar!
I can't wait to read the next installment in this series. A. Winchester is an author I will read anything she puts out! Easy to read, engaging, and left me craving more of the boys!
The Wayward Sons & The Wichita Werewolf is the first book in A. Winchester's The Wayward Sons series. Here's what you can expect from Ryder and Gray:
💙 MM paranormal romance and adventure 💙 First person dual point of view 💙 Guaranteed happily for now (the series continues with the characters embarking on different adventures) 💙 Established open relationship 💙 Bisexual representation 💙 Demon hunting 💙 Open door spice 💙 Lots of banter 💙 Road trip shenanigans 💙 Novella
I'm so glad a friend recommended this story because I had such a blast reading it, and I can't wait to continue the rest of it soon! This is a short, steamy, and action-packed novella to start the series. I love that not a lot of world-building is required, but the author does take the time at the beginning of the story to explain the archangel lineage. It's not critical to remember because different elements are explained as the story progresses.
Okay, let's talk about how swoony Ryder and Gray are. When we meet them in The Wayward Sons & The Wichita Werewolf, they've been together eight years at this point and they've been through so much together. Their relationship is so beautiful, and the love that these two have for one another is amazing. The way they take care of each other is truly #relationship goals. The steam and caretaking in this book was truly top-tier.
The demon hunting aspect was fun, although I feel like it all happened pretty suddenly in this story! I certainly could've used a few more chapters, but it was definitely some edge of the seat action. I look forward to these two adventuring across the States and encountering more demons, as well as learning a bit more about the main characters. We know one is a wanted fugitive and spent ten months in a coma due to a mishap with his powers and a stubborn demon.
This was so much fun, and I can't wait to continue reading to see what Gray and Ryder get up to next 👀
These are far too short for me! *sobs* However, it does make it VERY bingeable. I will definitely be reading the next if not all of these.
This was their first hunting adventure that we as readers get to see. This book takes place 8 years from "The Wayward Sons: Back to the Beginning(#0)". I don't think is necessary to read book zero because the author does refresh some key things. HOWEVER, why wouldn't you?! lol It was really good and these books as stated these books are a bit short.
We do learn that they are both bi boys in an open relationship. It does seem like the play together more than take partners on solely for themselves which is "shown". I was little worried about this but their hearts are each others. Period. So I can see as just a little extra spice.
We get to learn more about Ryder being an Empath and how it works for him and the things that he can do. And we get to see more of Gray using his kick ass abilities.
They meet people in need of some help (even if they don't want it). Fight some supernatural's. Get hurt. Bounce bank. Drink, eat and fuck. Keep moving. (Classic Supernatural storyline lol)
They are both very much if anything hurts you... they die. Which we love. They will go to the ends of the earth for each other and ugh I can't! But it's still a relationship and their are insecurities.
Hint at MFM > MF (not on page - some corny flirting) No Strict Roles (also love) Blood due to injury More HOT sniper scenes (with even cuter sniper signals) No Protection between MMs (I mean it's been 8 years) Dancing! :) Hints into the future... *smirk*
Gray and Ryder are demon hunters, and for the past eight years they have been on the road. They work and play together and are each other’s soul mates. They go to Kansas to take down a werewolf demon, but when they get there it’s more them one werewolf demon. The demon changed the demon hunters. Can they takedown the demon before he takes them? Great characters and storyline Highly recommended Amazing Book. Love Gray and Ryder. Great supporting characters. This book is short, sexy, funny, and nonstop action.
Supernatural meet smut, smut meet supernatural! Such a great combination! There is no denying the way Gray and Ryder feel about each other. The way they want and need each other is a fix on its own. “If you leave me, you got to take me with you, got it?” Is now my go to phase! Absolutely loved the banter between the boys, quick read and made my heart happy!
I started to make notes about this one when I read it a week or so ago. I only got as far as ‘Firebird!’, but, between the beautiful car cover and the road head being given in the Firebird on the first page, this was a unique read that I will remember. Excellent MCs, their chemistry was incendiary and made even better by the love and loyalty on the pages of this very good read.
This is an amazing book that starts out this series. You know you are in for a wild ride when the books first words is: “F**k.” This is a MM rom com and Supernatural TV show all in one book. I couldn't put this book down once I started, and I can't wait for their next demon adventure. There were so many quotes that I loved. I had to save a few to share. Spoiler free: “That’s horror movie s**t, Ryder.”
“You thought running across the park and yelling about being a hunter was the best way to handle that?”
“I’m f****n’ serious, baby. I’ll b*rn down the whole f****n’ forest and everythin’ in it if I have to.”
All of you over there and wait for Daddy Ryder to come babysit y’all
“I was born ready.”“No, you were born n@ked and probably late as f**k,”
“Eat a Twizzler.”
“Smokin’ or Twizzlers. Pick one, baby,”
This is must read book. I highly recommend this one and her other books your can find on KU.
This was the first book I picked from my TBR in a long time, and since it's Pride Month, I was excited to dive into this series.
We meet Ryder and Gray, two supernatural hunters with distinct and fascinating abilities. They're on a road trip, letting each new monster or demon determine their next destination. But when they hear of a demon that transforms humans into demons as well, it’s exactly the kind of threat Ryder needs —especially when battling his own inner demons.
The story flows effortlessly, pulling you in with its gripping action, intriguing characters, and scorching spice.
If you're looking for a fast-paced read filled with danger, a tortured soul, and some serious touch him and ☠️ energy, this is the book for you.
Quotes: He was sunshine and a breath of fresh air in a world mucked by chaos and darkness.
“So demanding.” I chuckled as I nipped his ear. I liked him like this—teetering between wrecked and desperate for me.
“We ain’t fought a dino demon.” Gray glanced at me. I recognized that look in his eyes and groaned. I wasn’t going to hear the end of this for months until I found him a damn dinosaur demon to hunt and kill. “I want to fight a dino demon, baby. Why ain’t we fightin’ dinos?”
⁉️QOTD: Do you prefer to fight alone or do you like to team up? ⁉️
The next thrilling chapter in Gray and Ryder’s journey. If you’re new to this series, fair warning there may be spoilers ahead. If you’re the type who lives for a little chaos, read on anyway. . . . . . . . . Eight years on the road together hunting, running, and surviving. Ever since Gray tore Ryder from his greenhouse prison of isolation, he’s been willing to go to the ends of the earth to keep him safe…and smiling. Ryder, ever the over thinker, can’t help but wonder if Gray’s life might be easier without him, even as he quietly counts himself the luckiest man alive.
When Ryder reads of strange disappearances in Kansas along with rumors of werewolves and suspiciously thin explanations. He convinces Gray to investigate. The bribe, Twizzlers. A lot of Twizzlers.
In Wichita, they pose as journalists to get close to the girlfriend of a missing man…only she’s not who she says she is. And she’s not the only one. What they stumble into is darker and more dangerous than either expected. Though Gray’s never been one to back down, especially when Ryder’s in the crosshairs.
Can they stop whatever’s prowling the woods before more people vanish? Or will be the silent heroes who never get credit for the battles they fight? You’ll have to open this one to see how far they’ll go for each other, and how much they’re willing to risk.
Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (Plenty of action — of both the fighting and the heated kind.)
A.Win my love, I am so glad I took a chance on this series. Starting with Back to the Beginning made me feel Gray and Ryder’s bond on a deeper level and helped me understand the heart behind their every move. I absolutely adore these two men and can’t wait to keep following their wild, dangerous, and beautiful journey.
This book was f*cking everything, GOD!! Its a supernatural novella with extra spice and a mm relationship. Winchester wrote a fabulous story and the start off the book was ohwee all kinds off hot, and that shower scene, sweet baby Jesus!! if you know you know 😉🥵🔥
Gray and Ryder are demon hunters but have been a couple for the past 8 years., They take us on a rollercoaster ride, They are too funny with their banter, all kinds of sexy, adorable and you can feel there love.🔥🥵 The two life everyday like it will be there last with the jobs they do, they are so wild and free.. Even when they are scared of what's going to happen, gray is the joker out off the two and I wasn't able to stop laughing throughout..
My favourite quotes 😂😂 “I mean that, baby. It’s you and me up against the world. Not a damn thing can stop us. Except maybe a demon. Or a bullet. Liquid nitrogen would too. I really ain’t very good at these epic fuckin’ speeches about love and all that shit, baby. I just love you, and you love me, and not a damn other thing matters.”
“Smokin’ or Twizzlers. Pick one, baby,”
“I was born ready.”“No, you were born naked and probably late as f*ck,”
“You thought running across the park and yelling about being a hunter was the best way to handle that?”
“I’m f*ckin’ serious, baby. I’ll burn down the whole f*ckin’ forest and everythin’ in it if I have to.”
“That’s horror movie sh*t, Ryder.”
I laughed and fanned myself so much while reading it. I kept thinking how the hell are they are still alive, specially always having half a plan when they go hunting. I can not wait to see what the next installment brings, I highly recommend reading you won't be disappointed I wasn't..
A. Winchester has brought us the most lovable demon-hunting couple and I adored everything about this novella with delicious smut!
🖤MM Bisexual Romance 🖤Grumpy x Sunshine 🖤Demon Hunting & Superpowers 🖤A Sunshine Guy with a Massive Dose of “Touch Him & 💀” Vibes 🖤A Tørtürëd Soul with One Hell of a Dry Sense of Sarcasm 🖤“I’ve got you, baby”
Life for Ryder and Gray has been a never-ending road trip the past 8 years – hunting demons with a car full of weapons and snacks. These two hunters love their life filled with cheap motels, greasy bar cheeseburgers (perks if there’s bacon), and adventures that flirt with death.
When planning their next move, a demon in Wichita, Kansas is giving off horror movie vibes with sightings of werewolves…but werewolves aren’t real, right? A single werewolf-esque demon is one thing, but a demon that can turn hunters into the very things they hunt? That sounds like a problem only Gray and Ryder can solve–but will they come out unscathed in the process?
Ryder Collins and Grayson are COUPLE GOALS. The love that these two have for one another is the true definition of ride or 💀 and I wouldn’t have them any other way. Gray is the embodiment of ☀️sunshine☀️ and he is wrapped in delicious tattoos, jeans that fit just right and a leather jacket, with Twizzlers in his mouth and singing T-Swift to his heart’s content. Ryder’s power weighs heavily on him, making him the grumpier of two, and when the feelings of the world weigh too heavily on him? Gray is his happy place. I can’t get enough of these two!!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice Rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Genre: Paranormal Romance POV: Dual Tropes: MM, You Go I Go, Kinks: MM bisexual, switch TW: Bloody action scenes, M/M sex scenes, is only a short read Ending: Happy for now with plans for Happily Ever After
Grayson and Ryder are two hunters that have been on the job and in a relationship for 8 years. Grayson is an easy going fun loving guy that makes jokes that'll have you giggling. Ryder is a quiet empath that prefers the world only consist of him and Gray. Both would burn the world down for the other. They travel through states hunting down any demons wreaking havoc on small towns. The come across a werewolf demon case in Kansas and of course they find out its a more complicated and difficult case then first expected but together they can do anything.
If you love Supernatural, you'll probably love this smutty short read. Its sexy, sweet, super funny, and has some pretty hot scenes. The writing is good, story flows well and the characters are excellent. The dual point of view helps you dive into the characters relationship and just how much the care for each other and want to do what ever they can for the others survival. They are fun, sexy and witty all throughout the book with still some awesome supernatural action thrown in.
Okay, the reviews weren’t joking when they said you’re going to be hooked 🤣. Listen..I am NOT supernatural girly and I don’t care for superheroes… AT ALL… but the chokehold this book had me in from chapter 1… uuffff!!!
You immediately dive face first into the hunter world with Gray and Ryder (yes there’s d*ck on the first page lmao). Gray and Ryder’s relationship is magnetic. They legit pull you in and don’t let go the whole time. The level of dedication these men have for one another has me KICKING MY FEET! These men love each other something so fierce and the world be fucking damned. They’re so sweet and wholesome with a hot, spicy s*x life, and will kill anyone who hurts their partner (yes you can be ALL of those things.)
I was fascinated by the world building, the magic, and the hunter story. It had me turning the pages quickly because I needed to know more. Were Gray’s antiques a little crazy? YES. But is that so on point for him? ALSO YES.
I truly enjoyed this quick book. There was so much fun, love, action and magic. I’m surprised how much I throughly enjoyed it as this isn’t my usual “cup of tea.” Will I be reading the next one? Yes, yes I will. You should too lol.
Okay so I know this series was inspired by Supernatural and Arrow and while I’ve never watched either of those shows I definitely want to know!
Ryder and Gray are perfection. They are both demon hunters who travel around to send the bad guys back to hell. Ryder is an empath and Gray has elemental controls of earth and air. Both of their special skills are extremely useful even tho there is always a downside sometimes.
The action and adventure is fun, and this book has them in Kansas trying to hunt down a werewolf who is turning other hunters. I enjoyed the side characters and how they each had distinct personalities.
Obviously the highlight is Ryder and Gray and their love. The literal definition of ride or die and it’s so swoon worthy. Gray is everything and more and now I’m walking around calling everyone ‘sugar’ and ‘darlin’ in a southern accent 😂 I love the way Gray loves Ryder. Insane chemistry between those two and they compliment each other perfectly. Definitely a grumpy/sunshine situation but we feel for a Ryder because as an empath, he’s taking on so much and Gray is just there always supporting him and cheering him up (in alllllll the best ways 😈)
My major complaint though was the use of such repetitive words... I very quickly got SO exhausted from hearing "baby" and "honey", or Gray constantly being described as "pure sunshine". And both characters very overtly stating numerous times in their internal monologue how much they love the other person. Like ok guys, we got it the first 40 times 😅 The author does a good job at showing the love between the characters without needing these devices, so I wish that they had just let the actions stand on their own a bit more.
Of course, I knew that this was going to be heavily inspired by Supernatural (how could you not?), but even with that in mind, this book was REALLY on the nose about it. And honestly, I can't decide how that makes me feel. On one hand, it's like a nice warm hug. On the other hand, why not add something a little original to it? There was some magic but it didn't feel well developed so I'm not counting that.
I also didn't find myself caring about the tot squad or the climax of the book for some reason. Little buildup, short, and kinda boring action. They kept calling it a demon so I forgot multiple times that it's actually a werewolf.
Overall, this book is a fun read that I would recommend.
I received an arc and this is my honest review. (I forgot to come back and review this yesterday, my bad!)
TWS’s releases on KU 26/09!
“I mean that, baby.
Do you love Supernatural? Or just demon hunters with a foul mouth who would burn the world down for each other? Hmmm? Well lucky for all of us, this has exactly that. TWS’s is only a quick read (108 pages!) but it’s so easy to slink into.
It’s a M/M book primarily but the guys are both Bi and they’re happy to also mix some rosé in with their red wine occasionally. They’ve been travelling together taking names, killing demons and getting laid for the past 8 years and our little fun book focuses on their latest demon hunt in Kansas.
Honestly this book is hilarious and super cute at the same time. For such a fast paced read too, it really leaves you wanting more of their shenanigans. I’d absolutely rec this!
Grayson and Ryder are Demon Hunters. For the last 8 years they have travel throughout the states tracking down demons who are causing havoc on towns. They stop in Kansas to track down a werewolf and disappearing town folks.
Grayson is the fun, free spirited, master of natural elements, kicks butt and asks for names later. Who also will burn the world down for Ryder.
Ryder the practical one, who feels peoples emotions, trying to ignore the pain, and needs a plan while hunting. Ryder loves Gray unconditionally and fears he doesn’t deserve him.
This is a wonderful Novella and a quick, fun easy read. You can’t go wrong with an opening scene with road head ;) I am looking forward to more! The author does such a great job showing their love for each other, keeps it fun, and entertaining while they are also hunting demons.
Are you a fan of Supernatural and wished it was a little smuttier? Well hang on to your angel blades and flannel shirts!! This is an MM romance and the spice starts out from page one! Grayson and Ryder are the most fun couple I have seen in a while! It is clear from the jump that they are soul mates and best friends. You can feel the love pour off the pages. Their banter is top-notch. How can you not love the Taylor Swift-loving, sunshine that is Grayson and the balance he can bring to the equally loveable strong, quiet empath Ryder? It is impossible to not fall in love with them and find yourself as part of their love story amidst their hunting hijinks. The magic twist to the lore of this Hunterverse is great and sets it apart in such a unique way. I am so excited to read more of these 2 and see where their story can take them!
Once I heard Supernatural inspired, I was sold and knew there was no way I wasn’t going to like this. And as expected the Queen delivered. When the opening scene is a spicy one you just know it’s going to be a ride.
The world building and the unique magic/power system in this book was amazing and has me super excited to dive deeper into this world. Then there is Grayson and Ryder whose dynamic is so swoon worthy and I am already in love with them both. They are complete opposites but balance each other out and their banter through out the whole book is hilarious but also heartwarming.
If you’re a fan of Supernatural and superhero’s, I highly recommend checking out this book. It a short fast paced read that will have you hooked from the very beginning.
I thoroughly enjoyed this little novella, and quite honestly wish it would have been longer! I cannot wait for the next in the series!
Ryder and Gray had me smiling like an idiot and the addition of werewolf hunting had me ALL IN. Their relationship and personalities had me wishing I was in the backseat of their car singing along to Taylor Swift songs, snacking on Twizzlers on the way to Wichita to kill some demons.
Ya know how sometimes attention is given to all the wrong plot points? (At least this has been my experience with novellas) Not in this one! Every moment led to the next with just enough attention spent on each one to make sure you know what's going on and where you're headed without making you feel like it's droning on.
Book #0 started off great for me until the instalove kicked it. And you all know how I feel about that- just not my cup of tea. But I loved the characters and the overall idea of the series (and I’m a SPN- Dean girl) so I said I’d come back and I’m so glad I did! I absolutely loved this! Gray is hands down my favorite (sorry Ryder still love you) but you can’t not love him. His happy go lucky nature just makes you happy and I love it! But I love his protectiveness and how he can just feel when Ryder needs him. Ryder just wants to be loved and he seriously doesn’t understand the depth of Grays love for him. They make the perfect pair and I can’t wait to catch up on the rest of their adventures!
So, being a Supernatural fan, I jumped for a chance to read this book, and in no way what so ever was I disappointed! If you’re a fan, think about your two loves joining forces, The boys and Smut! What a way to begin a book! I love the dynamic between Gray and Ryder, if you haven’t guessed by now… This is an MM romance and let me tell you it has all the spice and everything nice, and maybe not so nice, being that they are demon/monster hunters. This book is going on my re-read and series I love lists! I cannot wait until the next book!
As always pay attention to any trigger warning, what I like you may not!
Literally felt like I was watching a spin off of a supernatural episode, it was soo good. The humor was hilarious, the hunting was action packed and enthralling, and the spice was absolutely delicious.
Ryder & Gray are literally perfect for each other. Their personalities are a perfect match. They are one side of each coin.
Ryder is adorable and broody. He’s the serious one of the two but he compliments Gray so well.
Gray…I’m absolutely obsessed with him 🥺 his humor is top fucking tier, he had me cackling the whole way through lol he is reckless but the way he loves Ryder is pure perfection.
The way they will sacrifice the whole world for each other is everything.
This novella was amazing. The tension and chemistry between Gray and Ryder was phenomenal. You can tell how in love they are with each other. The banter and protectiveness that they have was the cherry on top. I don't think I'll ever get tired of reading about them.
They are demon hunters so that was a big part of the book. The book was really well written so all the action definitely had me entertained. It felt like I was watching a movie while reading.
I honestly can't wait for the rest of the books. This book was so good.
From the very first scene, two things were super apparent with this book. 1) Ryder and Gray loved each other a LOT! Like swoon-worthy sweet thoughts and constant acts of kindness to show you. And 2) their chemistry was hot. They couldn’t keep their hands off each other and it was both adorable and enough to get your motor running. So, this isn’t a story of how they got together since they were already together. It’s a story of them hunting a demon, but really how they approached life and work together. It’s a short read, but really sweet.
