Mia realizes the aftermath of her rape is not over when she is rocked by another challenge, one that will put her publicly at odds with her father, a U.S. Senator who has made her the poster child for his re-election. But the public face he wants her to wear can’t be further from who she is inside.
The latest rape victim is expected to die soon, and only Mia can identify the attackers. With pressure from the police to come forward, Mia is distraught when her father forbids her from speaking out.
She is surprised to discover new allies in her siblings, who break ranks with her father to support her. But even they have their own agenda.
Before Mia turns eighteen, she’ll face the ultimate choice: betraying her family or her conscience.
I'm glad Mia has someone in this book that she can depend on. She shouldn't her to go through all she did alone. I hate that this leaves you with no resolution and on top of that I haven't seen any new updates or releases on the continuation of the story. There's no new information on Chloe's website either. :(
This story and keeps getting better and better. It leaves you once again with a cliffhanger. But I knew that coming into the series. I want answers already. Will she reap the repercussions of gong against hey family? Will she hook up with Dom? What's the family secret?
These books are not for the faint of heart! Lizzy Ford has written a heart wrenching story. These novellas are written in the first person perspective of Mia Abbott-Renou, and are so beautifully written that I am in awe. Mrs. Ford bravely took on several sensitive topics such as rape, and the politics surrounding Rape that we've heard in the news in recent years, and did it with such grace that you have no choice but to feel empathy for Mia. After reading both novellas in one night I sat thinking about how to write this review in a way that would do this story Justice. In Broken Beauty, the first of the novellas, it starts with a very confused Mia just having been assaulted. The first scenes were written in such great detail that you can feel her confusion and pain. Throughout the first chapters you go through the experience with Mia,from waking up feeling confused, to the humiliation of being photographed at the hospital. Imagine going through all of this as a 17 year old like Mia? Throughout the first Novella you will see Mia try to deal with her Rape and the aftermath. She realizes to late that the people in her life she trusts the most to look out for her have ulterior motives, Her daddy, who is in the middle of a re-election campaign sends what amounts to his clean up team in when she's in the hospital to let them know that because in his eyes "you can't get pregnant from rape" he will not be giving his consent for the morning after pill. When Mia finally makes it home she is given a statement to read to the press by one of her half siblings that basically says she's sorry for being raped. There were parts in both of these books that had me in tears, wanting to scream at the top of my lungs that what's happening is not fair. I was so frustrated with the way this girl was being treated by the people who are supposed to be protecting her, while instead they were treating her as though she's a pawn in some game of political chess. By the end of Broken beauty I was Heartbroken but determined to find out what was going to happen next. Broken World picks up right where Broken Beauty left off, which is nice as most sequels jump forward a bit. Throughout Broken World you watch as Mia starts to find her voice again. She has so much strength and courage that it really is inspiring. Again and not surprisingly, Lizzy Ford paints you a vivid picture of the trials Mia is facing and she does it in a way that makes you want to cheer her on. Typically I would feel uncomfortable reading about someones assault, but this story was written with such care that not once did I feel like I was intruding on someones private experience. Broken world finds Mia in a compromising position, defy her father, who she has only ever wanted approval and understanding from, or disappoint her hero, the man who found her broken and bleeding and has stood by her side since. Mia finds some unlikely allies in this novella, who even in their attempts to help her are still using these attempts to manipulate the situation for political gain. Will Mia find the support she's looking for to be able to stand up and do what she believes is the right thing, or will she continue to let her father manipulate the situation for her so that it will all just go away? Thank you Mrs. Ford for having the courage to share this story! I am eager to read what happens next for Mia!
INITIAL THOUGHTS After finishing Broken Beauty Bk#1 in the Broken Beauty Novella's I felt compelled to read the next book as soon as possible so immediately looked it up on Amazon and purchased it. I started reading this book the same day I finished Bk#1!
MY REVIEW I purchased this novella from Amazon.co.uk. On the cover of this book the girl representing Mia looks a little more confident as if she has come to an important decision. I like that the cover co-ordinates well with that of Bk#1 as well. So in this book Mia finds out her attackers have struck again, this time the victim Tanya, is in a coma on life support. Mia feels responsible, in that if she had come forward instead of doing as her father wanted her to do in keeping quiet that the attackers would have been caught. Therefore they wouldn't have been able to attack Tanya. Mia's father is still trying to make Mia cover the identity of her attackers and he is now also using her "victim" status to gain vote and garner more support for himself in his political career. Mia does find more support from within her family. Her step sister Molly invites her to be bridesmaid at her upcoming wedding, she also has her own secret which in turn helps Mia with a problem of her own. Then her step brother unexpectedly arrives home and shows more interest in Mia than he ever has before. The book certainly makes you feel angry at Mia's family on her behalf. Molly the step-sister seems to help with one hand and then withdraw her "friendship" when it suits her. The step-brother is more like Mia's father wanting to further his political career, and he is not adverse to using Mia's situation to his benefit. The only one that seem to and eventually shows he does care for Mia is Uncle Chris, part of Mia's fathers law team. But if it came down to a choice between Mia and Mia's father who would the family stand behind? Also we know Mia's mum has an alcohol problem and has been sent away and hidden in a private clinic away from the voters ears and eyes but I found her constant promising to come home in two days infuriating. Mia does find support outside of her immediate family though. The two police officers in the book are the true heroes, and become friends with Mia. Dom is from a family of police officers, with a sister Gianna who works at a shelter. The same shelter that Mia is doing her community service. Then there's Keisha who also supports Mia when she has to give evidence and statements at the court house. So did I enjoy this novella? I really enjoyed it and as with novella #1 I didn't want to put it down. I even took my kindle with me to read whilst sat waiting to pick my daughter up from college! Would I read another novella in this series? I'd love to and will be researching to find out when it is available. Would I recommend this series of novella's? Definitely, I think the novella's I have read so far fit extremely well into the New Adult Genre. Will I try reading any other Chloe Adams/Lizzy Ford books? I certainly intend to check out her other titles.
Broken world is the continuation of Mia’s story. I would highly recommend reading the first book before this book. This book is based on the subject of rape and the aftermath of rape so may be a trigger to some readers. I liked Mia and truly felt for her but at times I wanted to shout at her to help the police. To ignore her controlling family. Mia’s family continued to annoy me in this book. It was Mia’s life, Mia’s attack, Mia’s choice and Mia’s body. They shouldn’t have had a say in it. I understood why Dom did what he did at the ball, but I was instantly annoyed at the situation he put Mia in. Yes he was trying to the right thing but he didn’t think of the affect it would have on Mia. When Mia finally snapped at her cheerleading practice, I was cheering her on. I wanted more. I was left wanting to know more. I found the ending slightly abrupt. I want Dom’s story!
Stuck in a difficult situation during the aftermath of her horrific attack, Mia has decisions to make. Whilst dealing with panic attacks and controlling family members, Mia also has community service to do. When the eighth girl is attacked and is critical, Mia feels guilty on her refusal to help the police. But as things get worse for Mia, will she make the brave decision to go against her father and help the police?
Mia's world has been torn asunder. Reeling from the aftermath of her assault, she's not exactly sure as to what she should do. Nor does she know who she should trust or turn to. To make matters worse, she now has to deal with what the attack left behind. Deep inside, she wants nothing more than to curl into a tight ball, and ignore the outside world.
Forced to confront the repercussions of that sordid night, Mia soon realizes that not everything is as they seem. Her family has secrets. Secrets she's known nothing about. To top it all off, those around are using her ordeal as a means of stepping up the ladder, something she refuses to allow.
Unwilling to give those around her the satisfaction of knowing just how broken she is, Mia dives head-first into the chaos she now calls life. If she's to succeed in putting what's happened behind her, she'll need to confront those who have done her harm. Granted, that's easier said than done.
Refusing to sit on the sidelines, Mia knows she needs to set things straight, once and for all. Doing so will change life as everyone knows it. Yet she knows what she has to do must be done. For her sake, and for those she loves, the decisions must be made. Even if they end up changing things further when the time comes.
A bittersweet story, Broken World is one that will move the reader in every way possible. Chloe touches upon a topic that's well-known in today's day and age. A topic that many don't do anything about for fear of the repercussions later on.
In this book, Mia, though afraid, has decided that she'll no longer hide from the world around her. She's suffering, yes, but she's determined in being strong in the face of such adversity. Her pain and heartache pour from every age, and you find yourself sympathizing with her every predicament. Kudos on such a stirring and quite touching story, Chloe.
Broken World effortlessly brings the reader back into the world of Mia Abbott-Renou, the 17 year old daughter of a US Senator and rape victim. Thrust into the spotlight because of her attack, Mia does her best to heal. When she is dealt a devastating blow, learning she's pregnant, she knows the whole ordeal will not be ending anytime soon.
She knows she doesn't want to keep the baby. It's just a reminder of something that should never have happened. Her father however has other plans. He's a super conservative politician and doesn't believe in abortion. Knowing she'll have to go behind his back, she learns she has unexpected allies, namely her mother and half-sister Molly.
During all of this the police and district attorney are still trying to get her to name her attackers. While she knows who they are, her father doesn't want her to come forward because it would hurt him political image. But when another girl is attacked and ultimately dies, she knows she has to come forward just so it doesn't happen again.
Broken World is a tear-filled journey a one girl's life after rape. It doesn't shy away from all the things you would rather not hear about concerning these types of attacks.
Mia is a naive young girl but one who is becoming stronger and stronger through each novella. She knows she's weak, but is overcoming it with the support system she does have. I cannot explain fully how much I loathe her family though, her father especially. How can anyone think like he does? I do not get it. If something like this happened to my daughter I would be out there doing everything I could to make sure the attacker was sent away for a long, long time.
I would highly recommend some tissues if you're going to read this or any part of the series. You'll need them for sure.
A beautiful and equally as emotional heartwrenching continuation to the story that began in Broken Beauty. Mia continues to struggle with regaining control of her life after being raped and slowly makes small victories. The incident has opened her eyes to the true nature of those around her, especially her "go-getter" and political family. Mia has been shushed down and tossed this way and that her whole life and as she struggles to recover from her rape, she slowly comes to terms with the fact that to get any resolution (emotional and physical) she will need to put her foot down and take a stand against all she's ever known.
The emotional journey is beautifully written and I can feel the sorrow and heartache Mia is going through. I cheer every time someone comes alongside her to encourage her and tell her they're on her side. I applaud Mia for the realization and discernment she is gaining in reading the faces of her family members, those trying to manipulate her. Dom is ever the gentleman and I'm loving the connection that is continuing to grow between them; can't wait till she turns 18 to see where it will all go. The other thing I'm excited for....is to find out what the big family secret is that Chris has promised to tell Mia when she turns 18; I have an idea as to what it is and I so very much so hope I am right!!
This book is a masterpiece, but it does come with caution to those who may find the subject matter too difficult to read. It is very disturbing when one realizes what a real problem rape is in our community.
What can I say about Broken World. This is the second book in the Broken Beauty Series. Even though this series has something horrible, horrific, terrible, and saddening happen in it, I still say it is an amazing book. Lizzy Ford's writing style is wonderful. She can suck you into any and all of her books. You not only get transported with the story but you also feel any and all emotions going on with the character. In this case, I felt a lot of emotions that don't compare to anything else I felt before.
This story is sad, but it gives hope to people that have been in the situation that Mia has. I feel for her and hate her father with a passion. Honestly I can't stand Joseph or Molly (Half brother/sister) but at least they seem to be trying a little more in this one. Even though I feel that Joseph is still being a little sneaky.
I still love Dom. He is the greatest. I really hope to see more bloom between him and Mia. I think it would be cute and sweet. I love how sensitive he is and how he is always there for Mia. Yea he did some things that were messed up, and should have been smacked for them but he always comes back sweeter than before. I really love him. Ohh lets not forget he's HOT!! :)
This series is done in Novellas. You have to read them in order to know what is going on. It is about a serious subject that some might find touchy so make sure you check the synopsis before buying. As always I recommend all of Lizzy's books. You are missing out if you haven't picked up one of her awesome novels.
This novella picks up right where Broken Beauty ends. Broken Beauty is the first book in the Broken Beauty Novellas and should be read first. These novellas cover the sensitive subject matter of rape and physical violence.
I found myself crying a few times while reading this novella. Mia is struggling with many different situations in this story. The hardest being what should she do. Mia is slowly changing throughout these novellas. She's growing as a person while becoming stronger both emotionally and physically. I keep routing for her.
Her father is still scum in my eyes. How he treats Mia and the whole situation completely disgusts me. She's beginning to develop a relationship with her half-siblings, Molly and Joseph in this story. They seem to care and want to be there but I'm still leery of them. They seem to be a lot like their dad at times. Uncle Chris is still helping however he can when he can. My initial suspicions about him are growing and I think that they might be correct but as of yet there is still no proof.
Ari and Dom continue to be her most loyal supporters. They are always a text away when she needs to talk. I can't wait to see where Lizzy takes us next in Mia's journey. Thank you Lizzy for tackling such a touchy subject matter. I love Mia and hope to continue encountering her on her road to recovery through each future novella. I look forward to reading the third story when it releases.
We pick up where Broken Beauty ends....Mia is pregnant and her father announces to the media that she intends to keep the baby, without any consideration for what Mia wants. Although her body has finally mended, she's still broken. The only time she wants to leave the house is when she needs to attend her community service or school. The police still want her to come forward. The mother who loves her and keeps promising to return home, never does. She is confused, but one thing she does know is doesn't want a daily reminder of what was done to her.
In this book, Mia will learn that being a part of her family isn't as black and white as she has always thought. She'll also learn the identity of her second assailant, Madison, and that there is another rape victim after her. And she'll finally make some tough decisions that involve her taking some control over her life. Things aren't getting any easier, and they may never, but she has a few more people in her corner than she originally thought.
Of course, my one pet peeve is that the book ended when it did. I for one am so ready to see Mia fight back and everything that will involve.
I love this series. This is the second book in a series that deals with the very important subject of rape and its aftermath. Mia is the victim of a rape and she is coming to realize that she needs to stop being a victim and do something about it. When we left Mia at the end of Broken Beauty she was reeling from a recent discovery. As the second book begins she is coping with that discovery. She is also dealing with her half siblings and her father. They each want to use her for their own purposes. Chris her uncle and lawyer is the only one in her family that really seems to want to help her. Then there is Dom the cop who found her the night of the rape and who has stuck by her and believed in her when her family won't. Dom has gone about some things the wrong way but has always had her best interest at heart.
This book is a must read. You go through all of the emotions with Mia. The anger and the sadness as well as the need to help others. This is a really great story and is very well written. Lizzy tells a powerful story in a very powerful way. Loved, Loved, Loved it. I can't wait to read the next story.
Mia is still trying to figure out how to cope with all the trauma from her rape, now having the world know she ended up pregnant, and that her father lied to her about that even being able to happen. It almost seems too much to take. She continues to trust Gianna to be there for her in a way she is not used to having from her family, she is also a bit jealous of the relationship between Gianna and Dom. As her half siblings start to reach out to her to help her, she is naturally distrusting, but deep down she really wants a relationship with them. She finds that she still cannot trust her mother to finally show up and be there for her. Going to the group therapy sessions really opens her eyes to what life is like for most people, and helps her start growing up and finding that she really can be stronger than she has ever had to be. Seeing her connection with Dom strengthen and evolve was nice, because she is seeing she can trust some men. It was great to see her uncle really step up in a more obvious way and be there for her. I am interested to find out what the family secret is, and to see Mia make her rapists pay in court.
Another page turner. This book just yanks at your heart strings. You can't imagine but feel for Mia as she tries to stand up to the political powerhouse that is her father. His position puts Mia in a spotlight that she doesn't want to be in, especially after she finds out that he lied when he told her that she couldn't become pregnant from a rape. To top it all off, her attackers are out living the good times while she's stuck doing community service and reliving her nightmares. As she seeks further help from the women's center, she decides to take matters I her own hands. She finds an unlikely ally in her sister as well.
She wants to come forward and do the right thing for the other victims. She blames herself that she hasn't spoken up after another victim ends up losing her life. She decides that she needs to muster up the courage and identify the rapists. Unfortunately, doing what's right will cost her so much personally.
I can't wait to find out what happens when she turns her father's world upside down and tells the world the truth about the night she was attacked. No doubt the next book will be just as emotionally charged at this one.
In book 1 (Broken Beauty) we met Mia, experienced the trauma of her assault, rape and positive pregnancy test. In Broken World, more family members come out of the cracks in Mia's life. Regardless of how helpful and nice they appear, everyone has hidden motives and secrets. It's time for Mia to start making important decisions that will affect the rest of her life. Will she publicly announce who attacked and raped her? Will she raise this baby, give it up for adoption or terminate the pregnancy? There are so many things this book answered.
This book picks up where the first one left off. Lizzy Ford does a great job opening up discussions, ramifications and the emotional journey many women (and men!) of all ages go through. Although there may not be any visible scars, the damage is just as lasting. Mia's story is well written, heartfelt and compassionate. Lizzy doesn't shy away from controversial twists and turns, making this a brutally honest book.
Absolutely compelling book I felt Mia's Story on so many levels.
I hoped for Mia to have some peace in this book, but her story is so real and raw. Broken World was so touching and emotional because you go from Mia's trauma to her trying to cope. I love the way the story displays how there is no "just bouncing back" from being sexually assaulted. Mia showed us how those demons come for you every day and how sometimes they best you. I was so in the moment with Broken World and hurt with Mia because she was surrounded by people but so alone and I understood her feelings. I found myself wishing I could give her some of my courage and strength or even just to be there for her. Thank you Lizzy for putting a great character's voice on a strong subject and making it so that other peoples story may be heard through Mia's.
This book continues to follow the life of Mia as she continues to come come to terms with being raped. We learn that most of the people in her family would rather she keeps her mouth shut about who raped her. We also learn that she is pregnant. As she struggles to decide to if she should turn in the 2 rapists now she must decide if she should keep the baby as well.
I continue to feel for Mia I cant believe the amount of courage she continues to show. I liked the fact that she has found people that she can turn to when she needs assistance. I also liked the fact that she is able to make choices for herself despite what her father may say or think.
I was happy to see this book picked right up where the other one left off, no repeating past incidents or anything like that. although with 90 something pages, there's really no room for that. it makes me sad when each installment if the novellas are 2.99 each for under 100 pages. I see there will be 6 installments and at 2.99 each... well you get my drift. I wish they were only 99 cents each at the most. or just release the whole book at once! I mean COME ON!!
anyway, this book has some very sensitive subjects, a few more than the last. most people will not agree with Mia's choices, but now I see them in a whole new light. I would have personally done SOME things a whole lot different, but that's just me. I really want to meet her dad so I can sucker punch him in the f$#king face...
This sequel is as exquisite and disturbing as 'Broken Beauty'. Lizzy Ford's storytelling is gritty and in-your-face. This is a really good look into how many rape victims are treated by family, friends, and the justice system - which often puts the victim on trial. The choices that Mia must make are heart wrenching.
Not for the faint of heart, but I'd recommend it to any young woman on her way to college, moving on her own for the first time, or for anyone who thinks that it can't happen to her.
Thank you, Lizzy Ford, for telling this all-too-real story; and I am anxious to discover what happens next.
This series is powerful. It's written in short novellas - like pieces of cheesecake... you eat one and wish you could eat more but need time to digest this one first - and it's the perfect way to present this story. Since it deals with the serious subject of rape, it could be a trigger for some survivors. However, it's written with utmost care and accuracy. There is no sugar-coating the realities.
This was a good second book. It is nice to see how Mia is changing, growing and becoming stronger. There were a few times in the book where I teared up thinking about what she is going through. This is a very emotional story and I applaud the author for writing about the subject. I like that she is finally getting close to her brother, sister, and uncle. She has more of a support system than she thought. I can't wait to see what happens between Mia and Dom.
I really loved Broken Beauty, the first novella in this series; enough to buy book two. I enjoyed Broken World but it felt transitional to me, and lacked the can't-possibly-put-this-down intensity of book one. I think that this series is powerful and very well-written. I admire Adams for addressing the subject of rape, and most importantly its aftermath. I'm definitely going to keep reading this series.
I really loved this book. The pain of the recovery process is very potent. But, Mia seems strong. Although she doesn't have many people to stand beside/behind her, the ones she does have are wonderfully supportive. I have a feeling about Chris, Mia's uncle. Love Ari, Dom, and Gianna. Mia has a long road ahead of her. Can't wait to see where Lizzy Ford takes her!!!
I really loved this book. I could not put it down once I started and even then had to reread it a second time. If I wasn't already hooked on her books I would be now.
It moved along at an amazing pace, had great characters that you just have to fall in love with and a fantastic story from start to finish.
Lizzy Ford is one hell of an amazing author and I cannot wait to read more.
Such a hard journey for mia to take. in order to heal she must face her demons. but with the pressure from the police to come forward and her father telling her shes not allowed. she must choose what the best choice is for her. Help catch the people who raped her an many others or go along with her father. such a heartbreaking book ='(

This is a beautiful follow up to Broken Beauty. I love the fact the author talks about a topic no one wants to talk about. It was emotionally hard to read I couldn't imagine writting it. Thank you for not being afraid to tell this story
Broken World is just as powerful as its predecessor, broken beauty! Throughout the whole story I wanted to jump into the book and hug poor Mia. Chloe Adams has done an amazing job she really makes you feel real emotions well reading while pulling you into wanting to read more.
I am really enjoying this novella length series and look forward to where the story will go. 2 down and i am very impressed with the amount of information that has been squeezed easily into the story.
Hoping there would be a finish to the story and how everything went in court though :( Seems like the reader is left wondering what happened in the end!!
