Warp Point

Rate this book
An unmanned alien ship suddenly appears from a point in space within the solar system and heads toward Earth. It finally comes to rest in the pasture of an ordinary couple's country home. Immediately upon going inside, they are placed in irrevocable, sole command by the ship's computer. How Dan and Stacy Saddler handle the enormous military, political and religious pressure of choosing a crew and taking the ship back through the enigmatic warp point makes this one of Darrell Bain's most exciting novels.

I grew up in an extremely poor family that was dysfunctional in many ways. We lived in the old segregated south, an era many of my readers have no knowledge of. This and a hardscrabble existence as well as an addictive personality gene(s) that apparently runs in our family shaped my life and played a part in me finally realizing a life-long dream and becoming a writer when I was about fifty years old. This autobiography, now in print and ebook both was begun in response to fans wanting to know more about me, and eventually one of my publishers thought it might make an interesting book. Many members from Betty’s side of the family were amazed at all the things they hadn’t known about me. You can judge for yourself now whether my publisher had the right idea of me doing an autobiography. I hope you are both entertained and possibly that some of you will learn a number of life’s lessons that I discovered the hard way!

First contact science fiction usually turns out two ways: Mutual benefit or really bad for us.

This story was an enjoyable, easy read, that didn't end how I thought it would. The character development was OK, nothing too deep, but believable. The plot progressed in a logical direction and did not leave me wondering why this or that happened.

Overall, nothing spectacular, but I would read more from Bain.

This is definitely a must read book, I liked the plot and storyline a lot. I wish there was a second book following the adventures yet again, and while I don't think such a book exists, the author may yet wite one. It would be interesting.

So much tell - doesn't let the story develop by itself. Very tedious reading.

Just the kind of story I like.

Humans acting civilized in difficulty far from home. Interesting premiss, well executed, interesting characters, wonderful starship. Su what happens next?

This book was rather "meh".. I typically like Darrell Bain's stuff, but this one jumped all over the place, and didn't have much character development.
