This ain’t their first rodeo…but there are a lot of other firsts they can experience together.

Skeeter Anderson was born to ride bulls. He bypassed college to shoot straight to the top of the elite pro tour, but lately all he can seem to do is hit the dirt.

Unwilling to admit his career might be over at twenty-one, Skeeter brainstorms a bull-riding boot camp with his buddies, which will put him closer to a girl who’s caught his eye—a stock contractor’s daughter called Riley.

Riley Davis lives and breathes bulls. Since her mother’s death, she’s been her father’s business partner as well as the apple of his eye—until a coronary rips him out of her life. Now, at nineteen, she must find a way to hang onto the family business.

When Skeeter hears about Riley’s dad, he drives straight to Mississippi to lend her a hand, his buddies hot on his heels. Suddenly Riley has more help than she can shake a stick at, and an attraction to Skeeter that’s heating up by the minute…

It all started in first grade when Cat Johnson won the essay contest at Hawthorne Elementary School and got to ride in the Chief of Police's car in the Memorial Day Parade...and the rest, as they say, is history. As an adult, Cat generally tries to stay out of police cars and is thrilled to be writing for a living. She has been published under a different name in the Young Adult genre, but released her first romance in 2006.

Today, she is a NY Times & USA Today best-selling, award-winning author of contemporary romance. A promo ho, she's sponsored real live bull riding cowboys and promoted romance using bologna.

I’ve already read this book two times and as I write this review it’s still several weeks from its release date. I can’t help it; I’ve waited in anticipation of this book for a long time. I love this series and the characters we’ve met along the way and I was so ready to be back in the world of professional bull riding. Now that I’ve read it, I can honestly say it was well worth the wait and then some. Not only has Ms. Johnson given us a sweet yet sinfully delicious love story she managed to bring in many of the past characters in a way that showed the closeness of this group, that they truly are more like family than friends, and they will go above and beyond to help those in need. To top it off, she made me one very happy reader as she addressed many questions I’ve had regarding the previous characters and what the future holds. This book left me contented, hopeful about what’s to come, and reminded me once again that Cat Johnson’s masterful writing makes me feel as if I’m immersed in the story. I have enjoyed the Studs in Spurs series from the beginning, but this book sits at the top right alongside with Unridden as my all time favorite in the series and yet, they couldn’t be more different.
I’ve always been a little concerned about Skeeter Johnson ever since his first appearance mainly because he was so young and seemed a little naive. Being on the road with professional bull riders and being exposed to so much I worried he’d go down a not so healthy path. So, I was extremely happy to see that his mama raised him right and he remembered that now, several years later. I really loved Skeeter’s charming ways, his obvious love for the woman who raised him, his appreciation of everything she and others have done for him, and his commitment to everything he puts his mind to.
Honestly, Skeeter embodies the “cowboy way” and it was nice to see in someone so young, just barely 21. I will admit that when he talks about the more experienced riders and them being so much “older, almost 30″ really cracked me up. Skeeter is just one of those heroes that takes you by surprise because he’s young in age, but old in heart and way more mature than most men his age.
Riley Davis took me by surprise but in a good way. At only 19 she could have been self centered and oblivious to what was happening around her, but she amazed me with her strength and wisdom both of which were way beyond her years and a testament to the way her father raised her. She hasn’t had a normal childhood and at times comes across as shy and a little unsure, but I loved that she saw something in Skeeter that she trusted and something she was sure made him different and her judgment was supremely accurate.
While this story is on the sweeter side (think about the age of these characters) it was quite endearing on so many levels. Skeeter was there for Riley when she needed him, taking on a lot of responsibility and giving her the support she needed during a difficult time. It was interesting to watch how they both just kind of fell into this relationship with him only having one steady girl back in high school and her not having much experience in dating at all. They truly seemed like two pieces of a puzzle that fit together perfectly. However, they were only a part of this book as Slade and Jenna, Mustang and Sage, Garrett and Silver, Chase, and Aaron are all there to lend a hand and offer support to Riley. While the budding relationship between Skeeter and Riley was front and center, all of the supporting characters added insight, entertainment, and amusement to what was already a wonderful story making it even better.
I know you’ll are wondering about the sex because come on it’s a Cat Johnson book…so I’ll tell you yes, there is sex involved; some of it sweet, some of it steamy, and some playful. There is also a lot of talk about sex because with this group, they can’t help but talk about it.
Something that really struck me in this book was how mature the relationship between Skeeter and Riley played out; there was no real drama and honestly the book didn’t need it. Skeeter really impressed me with how he was determined to honor Riley and her father and put the family pastor at ease as to his intentions. To be honest he “manned up” and showed a side that most people never see in him. While there were a couple of moments of indecision and upset, these two understood the necessity of communication which I greatly appreciated in a couple so young and I have to think that Skeeter learned this from watching his friends with the women in their lives. Mustang in particular had some very great advice but then Mustang has always been more astute about relationships than most men in his circle.
I could honestly go on and on discussing this book because I just loved it so much, but I’m going to stop. While this book might not be a steamy as most of the books in this series, it is however one of the best written. For anyone who has followed this series, I have no doubt you will be cheering as I was as everything played out in this book. In Thrown, Cat Johnson has given her readers an enjoyable new love story while satisfying their need for more on characters from the past. She has also given us an interesting look forward, something I’m very excited about, and most of all she’s stayed true to these characters and what they represent. I am one happy reader who is ready to do a complete series re-read just so I can read this book for a third time!

This is the 6th book in the studs in spurs series. This is Skeeter and Riley's story. I loved this book! Who knew Skeeter was so sweet and innocent! This book also brought back characters from the first five books.

OMG I love Skeeter and Riley. Two virgins who have a crush on each other hut neither knows.

Riley and Skeeter have known each other for a few years but never really talked because of her daddy. Skeeter get booted down one level of competition and Riley feels bad for him. When he hears that her daddy passed away, he heads to her to make sure she is ok and to help with the ranch any way he can. As they get through each day, they become closer and admit their feelings for each other. But the problem they have is the preacher keeps coming around and the thing to get her to send Skeeter and his friends away because it is not right that single men are staying with her. What happens when Skeeter proposes to her partly to get the preacher off their back but mostly because he loves her? Will be ever get back to the tour with his friends?

Thrown is a rodeo/western romance by Cat Johnson. Ms. Johnson has provided readers with a well-written book. I loved the characters in this story. Riley lives with her dad and helps him with his business taking bulls to bull riding events. Skeeter is a bull rider that has just been sent down to what amounts to bull riding minor league. Riley and Skeeter's story is loaded with drama, humor, sizzle and a little suspense. I enjoyed reading Thrown and look forward to my next book by Cat Johnson. Thrown is book 6 of the Studs in Spurs Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I read a print copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Great story

Loving this series. These big, brave bull riders all have things to hide and fears to overcome. They can do it with the love of a good woman.

One sweet cowboy

Skeeter and Riley have to be the sweetest cowboys I've ever read about .
Thrown was a cute coming of age cowboy romance.
I liked the Dual POV's however it was difficult who was speaking at times. I also though the story jumped around at times.

Riley and her father provided bucking bulls for the rodeo's. Skeeter was a bull rider that had lost his focus. On a trip home from a rodeo, Riley's dad wasn't acting like he felt good but Riley know he wouldn't go to the Dr. When dad passes away, Riley is devastated.
Skeeter hears of her dad's passing and he and his friends show up to help her out. There are people that don't think men should be living with a woman alone, so they keep on eye on them, but they work it out with some of the guys bringing in their girlfriends to offset the "talk".
There is a spark between Riley and Skeeter. They are going to take it slow and see where it goes.
It's another great book in the Studs and spurs series by Cat Johnson.

What a wonderful addition to the Studs in Spurs series!

Cat Johnson has a wonderful knack of immersing you in the world of bull riding so you can taste the dust of the arena and smell the sweat from the rider and the bull!

Skeeter Anderson is so sweet and thoughtful and Riley is a perfect match for him.

It was very refreshing to experience both of them being each others "first"and exploring the beginnings of a first relationship was memorable.

I really loved seeing Slade and Jenna, Mustang and Sage, Chase, Garret and Silver and Aaron from the previous books. It is always great to see what they are all up to and how things are progressing and changing!

This was a sweet and sexy story and I really enjoyed it. Skeeter Anderson got on his first bull at 11 and has been riding every since, doing great on tour. Until he gets 9 bad rides in a row and gets kicked off the pro tour. Riley Davis and her dad provide bulls for the events and she's had a crush on Skeeter for awhile - but her dad is overprotective and makes her stay away from the riders. Then Riley's dad passes away unexpectedly and Skeeter and his buddies go to help her out at the ranch. The characters were fun and interesting and the story, although short, was entertaining and sexy. I love this series!

The title seems to explain it all....Thrown definitely through me for a loop....Skeeter one of the youngest guys that we've heard about finally gets his book...Skeeter hasn't been riding to well these last few rides and he knows he getting moved down to a different competition level so he really doesn't think anything of pretty Riley giving him her cell number...Riley likes Skeeter, but when tragedy strikes she doesn't really know which way to turn....wonderful and heartbreaking story..It's amazing to me how easily she can get you enraptured into her characters...onto the next

Heart warming

It was so good the way everyone showed up to help Riley. It was a little short and as the others ends leaving you incomplete.
