After the birth of their powerful half-demon child Jareth, Freya and Damien attempt to build a normal life together in the mortal realm. But sinister forces lurk in the shadows, seeking to corrupt young Jareth and unleash his formidable latent abilities prematurely.
When a vicious demonic attack devastates their kingdom and captures Damien, Freya finds herself drawn into a dangerous rescue mission. One misstep could cost Damien his life and soul. Their worst fears seem to be coming true when their gifted son Jareth’s unchecked powers grow more unstable by the day as he starts unintentionally hurting those around him.
To protect her child from both demons and himself, Freya has no choice but to go into hiding with her sister witches. But separation may give their enemies the opening they crave to influence the boy irrevocably for evil.
With new betrayals around every turn, Freya walks a knife’s edge to keep her son safe and bring her captured husband back alive. But the lure of vengeance could corrupt even the purest heart when everything hangs in the balance. To reunite her fractured family, Freya must step into the shadows and master powers as dangerous as her foes.
Thanks to Tish Robbins for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion. This is the third book in this trilogy (although I'm not entirely convinced there won't be more in this series ... the characters are so interesting I hated to leave them at the end of the book). It picks up where the last book left off, with this very special family in a safer position but still feeling their happiness is at risk. The love between Damien and Freya is strong, but will it be strong enough as their baby son, Jareth, attracts the attention of those who sought to harm Freya in the last book? This author has an excellent ability for description: imaginative, unique and so wonderfully prosaic, making her writing as beautiful as the cover. The struggle between the magical characters is fascinating, involving different kinds of magic and ability. There are also hints of other romantic entanglements, maintaining the different themes of this special novel. I believe this author has not been discovered by many readers yet, and I urge you to do yourself a favour and give her a try, you won't be disappointed by her originality and excellent narrative style!
