Comedy is hard to write, just because the author finds it funny doesn't mean the audience will. So I have to give credit where it's due for the first 3 books of the Assembly series - C.P. James gave it a go.
That's not to say it didn't have it's moments but the book suffers from a few more missteps than it needed to.
1. Another editing pass
Seeing character's names change spelling, (Geddy/Getty) Or very sloppy metaphors (Oz's eyes shooting daggers from the top of her eyes) as well as other flubs make it feel slapdash
2. Where are the women?
In a huge galaxy we have a grand total of possibly 3 named women, all of whom are drop dead gorgeous space vixens.
3. "Jokes"
Punching down is not and will never be funny. thoughtless homophobic "humour" dots the story making it feel out of touch.
There is promise and fun in these books, and the over arching story (Which feels like a nod to Mass Effect) is interesting.
