Rate this book
Old Texas would give way to new-- but not without a fight...

They called it Hell's Half a violent sinkhole of dance halls and brothels, gaming dives and busthead saloons. To some citizens of Fort Worth, the only hope for Hell's Half Acre was to reform it. To others, it was a gold mine. And for one man, a shootist and gambler named Luke Short, it was a place to make a stand. Short wants to run an honest game with straight odds and build a future in Fort Worth. But plenty of people want to see him stone-cold dead. Now Short has no choice but to stake his claim, from behind the barrel of a loaded gun...

Matt Braun is a fun author. He gives the reader a glimpse into history while flushing out a fun story. Many of his books, like this one, are based on real life Old West Characters and a singular event in their spectacular lives. This one focuses on the Gambler Luke Short and how he came to be a part of the Fort Worth, Texas gaming crowd.

Really enjoyed this book featuring good characters and cameos from classic Wild West figures such as Bat Masterson and Wyatt Earp. Good story that wasn’t difficult to read

I don't read many Westerns, in fact this is the 2nd or 3rd one ever. That said I enjoyed this book. The story moved along well, the characters were just what I expected if a bit cliche. I found that I didn't mind this though. A quick, easy fun read like watching a western on Sunday afternoon cable television.
