Joshua Bayard was a trial and appellate attorney forever. Through a series of unlikely events, he got the opportunity to escape that fate and chase his lifelong dream instead--writing stories about wizards and monsters.
He loves history, games, and movies. He wishes he was better at playing tennis and the mandolin, and he admires those who are. He resides in Colorado with his beautiful wife, his beautiful son, and his weird little dog.
Just bought this book today and read it one tea-fueled sitting. I loved it. I got really into the characters. The story closed itself off nicely and also made you like the characters enough to want to follow their individual stories later. There were some great scenes in this book, some good 'ol fashioned wizarding, as well as some nicely fortified trash-talk between wizard and foe (keepin' it vague, no spoilers). This book was a new thing for me. I've read tons of sci-fi in my life, lots of Bradbury and Asimov and Sturgeon, but I've never read any fantasy. I tried one time to read Lord of the Rings, but I got sidetracked (this was like 15 years ago). I could totally get into reading stories like this. Hats of to Bayard. I got to know if/how/where Colin finds Asphodel.
Wow! What a wonderful read. Bayard brings to life a mystical story where when even only two are in the room, the room becomes a character. Alive with magical description. I would love to see these wonders on the big screen. I can't wait to read more.
