Word to the Wise

Rate this book
As the daughter of a biker, I’ve been toe-to-toe with brutal men. I grew up surrounded by violence, so I thought I could survive anything.

Until I learned what it really means to be at the mercy of a monster. One I loved. One I trusted.

Now that I’ve escaped, I refuse to go back.

But when I show up on my brother’s doorstep looking for help, I find myself face to face with Mason Zane.

My protector. My safety. My brother’s apprentice.

A man who reveals my truths and cracks me open. A man who sees the girl I forgot existed.

But Mason has secrets of his own. Demons like the ones I’ve been running from. A tangled web that ties us together in ways we never expect.

Mason might feel like salvation, but this is no fairytale. And I won’t trade one evil for another again.

The fourth and final installment of the Twisted Rose series and it ended on a high note. Mason and Reed were so good together. Both broken and flawed because of past traumas but they find comfort and solace in each other.
Like the previous books I really enjoyed the characters. Both the main ones but also the side characters. They are a unit and the series shows it to perfection.
Mason and Reed were introduced in book 3 but you can read Word to the Wise as a standalone but I recommend reading book 3 just for the full story and connection between this couple.
Now this is the end to the Twisted Rose series but the author introduced Jameson Steel from the Twisted Kings MC and I’m so excited. To get his story but also more words from Eva Simmons.

If Eva writes it, I’m going to read it. She never fails to reel me in with her writing style, the complex characters she introduces, the emotions she stirs up and the intense chemistry and tension she creates. It’s all there in spades here, making for an all consuming read. This was a quick, fast paced read.

This is the final instalment to the Twisted Roses series and I love that we got to meet these two as they were always there in the background. I had been intrigued about their stories and loved learning more about them, seeing them come together, heal and ultimately find love.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁: forced proximity, tortured hero, biker’s daughter, tattoo artist, fmc in peril, redemption, touch her + die.

Our girl Reed is going through it during this and I had that heart in my throat feeling right from the start. She’s just fled an abusive relationship and gone to the one place she knows she’s safe, with her brother. But forgetting he recently moved, she ends up on Mason’s doorstep and his protective instincts immediately kick in when he see’s her. He’s held feelings for her since meeting her but her brother is his mentor, making her off limits. While giving her a safe place to heal and find herself again, they form a friendship and I loved the dynamic and banter between them. I enjoyed the way their friendship naturally progressed into something deeper and physical.

While Mason has his own darkness, this man was a walking green flag. The patience, support and protection he offered Reed was the ultimate swoon. He allowed her the space to find herself again while showing her how she deserved to be treated. His love language was acts of service and he delivered every single time turning me to mush for him.

Both Mason + Reed have so much trauma and inner pain, but I love how they supported and encouraged one another to heal individually, for themselves so they were stronger and the person they wanted to be for the other. The focus on their mental health journey was done beautifully, with care and was realistic and relatable. However I did feel that this aspect overshadowed everything else, and only wish it didn’t take away from what we got from their building romance.

I really loved the moments with the rest of this crew, the constant support and banter between them a highlight. It’s bittersweet that this series has now come to an end. I’m looking forward to seeing what Eva brings next with the Twisted Kings series!

I don't know how she does it, but Eva Simmons knows how to bring together two damaged souls and make something hauntingly beautiful with their determination to be what the other needs to heal..

As I started reading Word to the Wise, I was so excited to be experiencing Mason and Reeds' story! I think it was an amazing way to close the four instalment Twisted Rose's series.

Mason has so much pain and guilt that he lets weigh him down every day since he lost his sister, but will he be able to finally let go.. Reed finally escapes the hell she has been silently living for the last 6 years, but is she strong enough not to go back this time.. Can they stand with each other and see past the damage and darkness, or will it all disappear with one drastic scene?!

Although Masons' story is no less sad and painful, Reeds' story had me sobbing. I related to so many aspects of what she went through with the pain and trauma she experienced. But as always, Eva's writing is well-informed and sensitive to the hard topics, so for me personally, as always, if Eva Simmons writes it, I'm buying it!

This is the fourth book of the Twisted Roses series, but the first that I have read. I did it a little backwards, but will definitely be reading the rest. Eva Simmons can write! I loved this book, she captivated me from the very first page. This story is about two people who believe they are damaged and unworthy of love. You have Reed who was taught to be strong and to take no s**t, but looses herself by loving the wrong man. Mason is a god…no lie, but he is fighting demons of his own and has been closed off to all. But he won’t let his life repeat itself and is determined to save the one woman who holds his heart and right his wrongs. It’s an amazing story full of heartache, growth, and true love. You know it’s an amazing read when you literally highlighted the whole book. I’m also glad this teased the start of a new series, I can’t wait for that ride.

Thank you for allowing me to ARC read this wonderful story!

I've been enjoying a lot this series and after the last book it was impossible not to be curious with this story.

Reed was such a human and strong character. She had to deal with a lot and it was impossible not to connect with her, her story and her pain.
And Mason. . . he was such a soft and cute boy with ✨that✨ alpha male energy. So hot!
These two together were simple perfect and I really enjoyed the development of their relationship. They were so cute and beautiful together and YES so freaking hot 🥵

This wasn't my favorite book of the series but it was an amazing read for sure.
I can't wait to see what else Eva has planned out for the future!

The romance the smut the plot the drama!!! What an amazing ending to an amazing series 😭 Watching Reed and Mason go through their own traumas both alone and together and coming out stronger on top of it was so heart-melting to read. My heart ached for Reed so much and I’m glad she got her happy ever after. I’m so sad this series is over but it was such an amazing ride and I’m excited to see what Eva has next for us (me)!!

- Forced Proximity
- Touch Her And Die
- Tattoo Artist MMC
- FMC in Peril
- Tortured Hero

This is the fourth and final book in the Twisted Roses series. All can be read as standalones, but trust me, they are ALL worth the read!

Mason and Reed’s story is full of so much pain and heartbreak, but also friendship, love and redemption. It was so beautifully written. Mason is such a sweetheart. The little things he does for Reed without having to be asked and the way he just supported her, even if it meant keeping his distance. And Reed, she is such a strong FMC even if she doesn’t believe it herself. Both characters past broken my little heart, but the author slowly patched it back together. I am so sad to see this series come to an end, but I am so happy it ended with Mason and Reed. And cannot wait to see where the author takes the story in her new upcoming series Twisted Kings.

I'm crying right now. It's over 😭😭😭. *In my Gimli voice* NOOOOO!!!!

This book was everything. Mason Zane and Reed Jackson have stolen my heart. These precious babies are just *sighs* ❤️! I really didn't want this series to end at all. God, each book just kept getting better and better and I have no words for much I loved them all and how amazed I was.

Reed has been through so much because of that dirtbag Carter. I hated him from the moment he was introduced. I was intrigued by Mason after meeting him in Cold Hard Truth, and boy was I glad to know he was going to be Reed's MMC. These two were perfect. God their tension and chemistry just melted me. The first time they have relations was just 🔥🔥🔥🔥! Oh god so hot. I loved it. And don't get me started on that allergy scene 😂!! God really did smite Mason 😂. There were waaaayy too many moments that I enjoyed in this book.

Some of my favorite quotes:
[“We’re two haunted people living side by side.”]

[“She presses her lips together, wetting them. They’re the perfect shade of strawberry, which figures when I’m allergic, and this girl makes me itch with desperation every second I’m around her.”]

[“Because I’ve been running a long time, Reed. Just like you. But you make me feel like I’m ready to stop.”]

[“I’ll always be careful with you, Reed. With your body. With your heart. Because a girl like you deserves that.”]

[“His lips pressed to mine float my heart to the stars and warm it with the heat of the sun. And when he pulls back, the cool plummet as I fall to earth has me wanting him even more.”]

[“Hi, honey, you’re home.”]

Eva Simmons is THE best dark romance author ever. Hands freaking down. The way that this series is connected to the Twisted Kings series? I did NOT see that coming. I love how she interconnects her novels and surprises me every time. I love her plot twists as well. I literally have a physical reaction every time I read them. *Side note: I know whatever is going to happen in Atone will reaalllly hit me upside the head and I am here for it 😌.*

The one person I can truly thank for the Twisted Roses series is Sage. So thank you Sage. This all existed because of you ❤️. Mason and Reed brought out the good in each other and I loved seeing them fall for one another.

I'm so sad to say goodbye to the Twisted Roses crew. Each book holds a special place in my heart. I can't wait to reread them 😊! I 100% recommend anything written by Eva but especially this series!!!

*Side note: This is my 423rd book read 🎉!

This is the final book in the author’s- 𝚃𝚆𝙸𝚂𝚃𝙴𝙳 𝚁𝙾𝚂𝙴𝚂 series and I think it’s a really great wrap-up on this group of wonderful characters and this fantastic pair.
The story has plenty of appearances from the characters featured in past books in the series. They add so much heart and found family vibes. I absolutely love it!
Plus, if you’ve read the previous books as I have, you’ll be excited for this couples story.
Reed escapes an abus!ve relationship and runs to her brother’s apartment to discover he’s moved out, but his tattoo artist apprentice, Mason is still living there. Mason is swoony, intelligent and ready to comfort, protect and support her. Luckily they had met previously and hit it off *extremely well*.
Reed and Mason are both trying to run and escape from their pasts, they click so well because of this and more. They both seem to innately understand what the other needs.
Mason is especially cautious and smart in how he speaks, moves and reacts to Reed; he seems to really understand the trauma she’s experienced. It made their romance really unique and beautiful for me.
The emotional/darker topics are mild and handled with care.
I love the connection between the couple so much! I have experience with things they’ve been through, it was not too graphic or descriptive at all in my opinion. I think the topics were handled very delicately.
I love the relationship romance between two people who are aware they are piecing themselves together and aren’t at their best… that’s life, in my opinion and I found it very inspiring and romantic.
Towards the end there’s action/drama… I felt it was rushed and over too quickly. That’s just my preference and opinion.
I loved the epilogues and the way things get handled about the whole group. It’s heartwarming, heartfelt and awesome!
I love this book, characters and series. I cannot wait what the author has coming up next!!

"One touch, and I want to be a better man. I want to deserve her. I want to prove that the things I've done don't make her unsafe. I'd burn the world down to protect her-she's everything to me." Word to the Wise, By Eva Simmons (Book 4 in the Twisted Roses Series)

It is so bittersweet to come to the last book in the Twisted Roses Series. This series will stay with me and in my heart always. These books are what made me fall in love with Eva and her writing. She is just absolutely incredible.

This is Mason and Reeds' story. Mason is a new tattoo artist at Twisted Roses, and Reed is one of the shop owners' Sages sister. They had only met once, but if there is such a thing as love at first sight...man these two had it.

Reed shows up for the 2nd time in Mason's life, scared and broken. But Mason is so no stranger to a dark past either. He knows it all too well and has been running just like she is.

They are two broken souls, but let me tell you....Masons strength and what they bring when they are together. It was just absolutely beautiful to read. Gosh, just two amazing characters that not only grew together but side by side as individuals. Their story isn't for the faint of heart, but it was a story that absolutely needed to be told. And I am so glad Eva did.

Eva, you know how much I loved this book and this series. Thank you so much for making these characters feel like family. I will always love them. 🫶🫶

What a brilliant ending to the series. I loved following Mason and Reed's relationship throughout the book and wanted them to have their happy ending.
As always, there are morally grey characters and sensitive subjects throughout the book and Eva does give a warning at the beginning of the book. As always, Eva always handles these with care. I couldn't put the book down, Eva's writing is beautiful. Overall, a brilliant novel, that I highly recommend. I can't wait to read more by her.
💓Word To The Wise is released on 28th June.

How is this series finished already? WTTW is the fourth book in the Twisted Roses series - all interconnected standalones. With every book released Im sure ive said ‘this guy is my favourite’, with it now complete I can say wholeheartedly that Mason is my boo. I didnt think Sage was beatable, but let me tell you about our gentle giant…

Mason handed his heart to Reed the moment he opened the door to her. This guy is a huge walking green flag with how he loved her, with every time he spoke and with his actions. But his red flags came out to play when her safety was involved.

Both of these MCs have heavy baggage (check triggers). That being said Reeds strength was beautiful, she stood up and fought for the right reasons. Mason was running from his past and Reed was exactly who he needed to change.

This was painful at times, but the Love, found family and Friendships were so heartwarming. I cannot describe how beautifully Eva writes, its like poetry. I could easily start a highlight on page one and finish it at ‘The End’. She gives me goosebumps and takes me to another world. Her writing completely consumes me. And she ALWAYS gives me a broken boy that will burn the world down for his FMC.

What a ride!

My first taste of Eva Simmons writing happened to be the first book in this series and ON RELEASE DAY!
Lies like love was an unforgettable read and each character in this whole series held an amazing hold on me throughout! I impatiently waited for each book to be released and cleared my calendar.

Word to the wise did not disappoint! Mason and Reed have such tortured pasts but see each others strengths! The way they encourage each other gives you all the feels….. mix that with some amazing suspense and 5 star spice!!

While this book could be read on its own…. Jump on the ride!!!

Loooovvveeee the connection being made to the new series! While the twisted roses withdrawal will be some…. I love their endings!

Thanks Eva!

The Twisted Roses series is classified as a dark romance, but a really good introduction to the genre as it's on the lighter side. Each book can be read as an interconnected standalone, contains different themes & tropes but be mindful they usually contain some heavier topics.

Reed Jackson is running. Running from a toxic 6 year relationship, and she comes back to Los Angeles where her brother Sage lives. She ends up living with his apprentice+friend Mason.

Mason Zane has an instant draw to her, and after seeing her show up beaten & bruised on his doorstep, he vows to protect her at all costs. The only thing is Mason has a past, and the guilt makes him feel unworthy of her.

When Reed discovers who his family & pieces together the traumatic events of his past, Mason expects her to run from him but the opposite happens. When Mason stops at nothing to protect Reed he will turn to the last person he expects for help.

As per usual this book contains some heavier & emotional topics. This book has a beautiful balance of plot to spice, and some twists I absolutely didn't see coming. We definitely got glimpses into what's coming next with the introduction to the Twisted Kings MC club. Cannot wait for what's in store next from Eva.

4.5⭐️/ 4🌶️

The final book in the Twisted Roses series! This series has been a whirlwind of drama, suspense, romance, and found family. This book centered on, Reed (Sage’s sister) and Mason (Sage’s tattoo apprentice). The previous book introduced not only Sage and Lyla’s story, but also the little bit of Reed and Mason briefly meeting, as well as leaving us wanting a bit more of them. This story didn’t waste any time jumping into the drama that unfolded in Reed’s life or namely the danger she found herself in. When Reed needed help who better to go to than her brother, Sage, but upon arriving at his apartment she instead found herself face to face with his tattoo apprentice, Mason. Mason had his own mysterious past that he kept hidden, but when it came to seeing how Reed in pain and in need of help, Mason was determined to protect her at all costs.

(Sigh) Reed was really going through it in this book, and it was disheartening. Reed always prided herself on being a strong woman, and with her childhood being surrounded by an MC group, she was taught at a young age how to defend herself, and other things as well. Despite all that Reed knew what to do, when it came to her boyfriend, Carter, she couldn’t have known that six years in a relationship would become her worst nightmare. My heart really went out to Reed while I was reading because, throughout the beginning of the story she felt like it was partly her fault for allowing the things that happened to her when in fact IT WASN’T. Reed at the start of the book wasn’t in the best place both physically and mentally so it was sad to see just what she experienced.

Mason was an interesting character who I wasn’t expecting this kind of storyline to intertwine with Reed’s storyline. At first glance, Mason seemed like the kind of man who just worked, relaxed, enjoyed his time going out, hooking up, and whatever. Upon further inspection, (*namely in Mason’s p.o.v. Chapters) I started to see that Mason had his own inner demons and past he was running from. Certain things that were sprinkled throughout the book left me wanting to uncover the mystery of Mason’s past, and why it was such a crucial part of his backstory. I also wasn’t expecting to learn about Mason’s family namely how they too also played a role in his past. While Mason dealt with his problems internally, he was guarded, and didn’t allow others to get close, but that changed once Reed became his roommate.

The way Mason was with Reed was absolutely amazing! If you want a fictional man who not only cares of you, but also supports you wholeheartedly, then you’ll love Mason. The thing I loved most about Mason was the way he treated Reed. If there was a love language for Mason it would DEFINITELY be, acts of service. No matter how late Mason got home from work, this man would cook meals for Reed because, he didn’t like knowing she probably hadn’t eaten all day (*again Reed at first wasn’t doing well so this was a big deal for Mason). In addition, the way Mason didn’t try to dictate what Reed could and couldn’t do was something that meant more to Reed than Mason could have realized. At the end of the day, it wasn’t money or being spoiled that Reed wanted, she just wanted someone to be by her side, care for her deeply, and trust someone wholeheartedly which was exactly how Mason was with her. Plus, there was still plenty of that, “I’ll unalive anyone who hurts her” trope that Mason was set on the moment he knew Reed was in trouble. There were a lot of great moments between Reed and Mason that were enjoyable, sentimental even in the midst of their spicy scenes and danger lurking around with Carter.

Oh my, I can’t believe this marked the end of the Twisted Roses series! It’s bittersweet that this series is over, but from each of the characters stories that I’ve read, I’ve enjoyed them very much. While Fel and Jude will always remain my all time favorites within this series, I did enjoy this story as well. Getting to see Reed’s story alongside Mason’s was heartbreaking, but also eye opening in getting to see Reed gradually get to a better place mentally and physically. Mason had his own mysterious past that I was not expecting, but allowed me to see him in a different light. I think the suspense to this story added a bit more danger as well as gave Reed and Mason’s story that level of fighting against someone if that makes sense. Aside from the heavy subject matter, this story also had some great romantic, spicy moments too! Most of all, the acts of service throughout this story were AMAZING! No need for grand gestures just take notes from Mason and treat your partner lovingly…and the occasional possessive (respectfully) is nice too. Like always, Eva Simmons stories leave me falling in love with her characters from the added darkness, their characters finding their way, and romance, this was another great story. Loved yet again seeing the rest of the Twisted Roses gang appearing since I love the found family in this series! All in all, a good way to wrap up the series, illustrate the highs, the lows, and obstacles Reed and Mason went through in order to get their happy ending. Highly recommend reading this series!

She's the girl who brings air to my lungs and blood to my heart.

*4.25 stars*

Awww, my heart...

Reed going from a shell; broken and beaten to slowly gaining power, confidence and the will to fight was everything - heartwrenching, terrifying, frustrating and very empowering.
And Mason was the perfect man for her - calm and confident (on the outside), willing to help her heal in her own speed, and just absolutely taken with her...

If there's one person who gives me purpose again - it's Reed Jackson.

Genre: Contemporary romance with darker themes
Tropes: Forced proximity, tortured MMC, biker's daughter, tattoo artist, FMC in peril, redemption, touch her and die.
Content warnings: Domestic violence, stalking

ARC review:
This was the perfect end to the series, even though I'm sad to say goodbye. All these complex characters with their heartfelt emotions, harrowing journeys, all-consuming love and the deep connections and friendships - all of it was just so wonderful.

"Whatever you planted in my chest just keeps growing, no matter how much me demons try to hack it away. I loved you the first time I saw you, and nothing's ever going to make that stop."

Word to the wise, the fourth and final book in the Twisted Roses series was a beautiful journey of healing. Both Mason and Reed had a lot of trauma, were beaten down and hiding behind a shell of themselves, but together they found solace, a safe place and all the love and affection they needed to heal, to grow, to once again sparkle bright.
Their darkness matched very well, and them being together brought out a shining light in them both. They supported each other so well and didn't heal for each other but for themselves to then come together as their best selves *chef's kiss*.

Reed 'Sticks' Jackson, the sister of Sage and best friend of Lyla (Cold hard truth, book 3). My heart broke for Reed from the first page… It was truly horrific seeing this once strong, badass woman being so broken down, and barely existing. But then seeing her slowly get her life, shine, happiness back little by little was a beautiful (and slightly heart-wrenching) story. The way she slowly found herself again, within the safe space Mason created was just perfect.

"I'm the nice guy. And on any other day, that might work in your favor. But you put your hands on my girl. So now, I'm your worst fucking nightmare."

Mason Zane, tattoo artist and apprentice of Sage. From the previous books I caught this mysterious vibe about Mason, but getting to know him and seeing him with Reed, I just loved him even more. He was such a walking green flag with a hidden darkness and just everything Reed needed.
The way he allowed her the space and time to slowly heal (for herself), while also being there and showing her the love, care and affection she deserved was just so swoony. But don't mistake his swoony-ness for softness - he was also very possessive and protective, and so ready to protect Reed by all means necessary.

Mason and Reed had such a great dynamic, great banter and so many tender and loving moments. It was great seeing their friendship blossom and the natural progression into something so much deeper (and also physical). The chemistry and tension was also very evident, and the spice was on point.

"You're so pretty when you're being greedy with my cock. Fuck what's yours, Reed. Claim me."

The whole friend group in this series is A+. They had great banter and teasing, while also being incredibly supporting and protective AF.

I am obsessed with Eva's writing. It is poetic and compelling, has some serious twists and doesn't shy away from the heavy topics. This really brings out the feels, has my heart racing, while also having me feel such a deep connection to the characters and their story.

I’ve been dying to read Mason and Reed’s story since these two crossed paths. And I was tossed to the wolves right away! But I was ready for it, or so I thought! It was so easy to become attached to these characters, which meant it was inevitable that I felt their pain. And boy did I feel lit! (Still feel it!) Mason has been running, but his demons follow him. And it’s Reed’s demons that lead her right to him. Into his protective arms. Protective with a capital P. Everything with them feels so easy, simple, uncomplicated. Meanwhile their worlds are the complete opposite. But that’s what I loved about them. Their ability to build a safe bubble around them while they supported and protected each other. The strength they share and give each other. The way their demons yelled and screamed, but were silenced by their bond. By their trust, their hearts. Mason and Reed’s story is raw and heartbreaking, but it’s beautiful.

I love this series. The characters, their journeys, their love, their strengths. It’s bittersweet to say goodbye to them.

Mason & Reed
I just finished the fourth and final book in the Twisted Roses series, and I'm still reeling! While it's technically a standalone, I highly recommend diving into the first three books and checking out the trigger warnings before starting. This book was a total emotional rollercoaster, and I'm so impressed by Reed's resilience and strength.
This book was a real tear-jerker, especially with what Reed went through. Her resilience and strength in the face of adversity were truly inspiring, and I found myself rooting for her from the very beginning. And then, of course, there's Mason - the ultimate book boyfriend! I thought Sage was the best, but Mason's kindness, patience, and protectiveness have won me over. I mean, who wouldn't fall for a guy who learns to cook for the woman he loves? _swoon_
The chemistry between Mason and Reed had me hooked from the very beginning. Both broken and flawed due to past traumas, they find comfort and solace in each other.
Reed's story is heartbreaking, and I loved watching her heal and find herself again. She's fled an abusive relationship and ends up on Mason's doorstep, where his protective instincts immediately kick in. He's held feelings for her since meeting her, but her brother is his mentor, making her off-limits. As they formed a friendship, I loved the dynamic between them. It was so natural and easy, and I enjoyed watching their friendship progress into something deeper and physical.
Mason has his darkness, but he's a walking green flag - patient, supportive, and protective. He allows Reed the space to find herself again while showing her how she deserves to be treated.
Their love story is beautiful, and I loved how they supported and encouraged each other to heal individually. Both Mason and Reed have so much trauma and inner pain, but they become stronger and better versions of themselves for each other.
The moments with the rest of the crew were fantastic, and I loved the constant support and banter between them. This series has been an emotional journey, but it's been so worth it.

This is the 4th and final book in the Twisted Roses series, and I liked it a lot and am going to miss all of these characters so much! Eva has such an amazing way with words that they just sucked me in every time and I had to constantly stop just to appreciate the writing.

I never thought I would be one for dark romances, but Eva changed my mind with this series. I wouldn’t classify them as extremely dark, but they are still darker than I’m used to reading, so it was interesting to get out of my comfort zone reading these stories.

Reed and Mason were so great together because they both had a darkness inside them and were fighting their demons, but they weren’t afraid of each others’ demons. It was nice to watch them be friends first and help each other battle those demons while working their way to a possible relationship. Reed had just left a man she thought she loved, so she wasn’t ready to jump into a new relationship right away, no matter how tempting Mason was to her. But, I loved that Mason never pushed her too hard on anything. He let her realize that she was her own woman and that she was stronger than she believed herself to be, and while he helped her get out of her comfort zone sometimes, he never pushed her harder than he thought she could handle. They were such great friends and I loved watching them work through their issues together and apart so they could make their way to a relationship.

I will always live for a good reformed fuckboy story, and Mason Zane was the perfect example of that. He would never have given up his playboy ways if it weren’t for Reed–even if she was his mentor’s sister. And Reed learned that all men aren’t like her ex and that she could feel safe with someone again. I loved watching them both grow throughout this story!

This is a good ending to a good series and while I will miss all of the great characters, I can’t wait to see what Eva gives us next from this world!

Quotes I Loved:

"I'd go to war with the ugliest nightmares for this girl." -Mason

"Mason wants to set me free from everything that's been holding me back these past few years. He wants me to live again." -Reed

"...without asking, Mason stayed with me. He caught me. And accepting help didn't make me weak like I thought it would. It gave me the strength I've been missing." -Reed

"...his bright-blue eyes shine down at me. I swear the ocean resides within them. Endless possibility. I've always been afraid of the water, and yet, he makes me want to swim." -Reed

"I'd give anything to grab her and plant my mouth on those strawberry lips. The sight of her has me anaphylactic, so I can't imagine what one touch would do. There's no coming back to life after getting a taste of Reed Jackson." -Mason

"...if anyone deserves to hear the truth, it's Reed. She's trusted me with her scars; it's only fair I show her my own." -Mason

"Did the room lose all its oxygen or is she stealing the beats from my heart one at a time?" -Mason

I have to admit that I avoided starting this book. Not because I wouldn't like it, this whole series has been brilliant, so I know I'd love this too.
It's because this is the last book in this series and I just don't want it to end.
The first chapter is Mason's POV. Straight away I feel like his demons are a little louder than the rest of the Twisted Rose's. He seems to have heavy weight on his shoulders. When Reed shows up at his door looking for her brother, his protective instincts kick in.
For those that may not have read previous books, these two made appearances in the previous book and they had a little chemistry.
Right now Reed is a shell of her former self and you can't help but put yourself in her shoes and relate to what she's going through. Once again Eva does a brilliant job of bringing her characters to life. I really felt like I could feel the heaviness in Reed, the exhaustion is great and she's struggling to make sense of her life and how she got to where she is.
Both Mason and Reed are dealing with troubled pasts and a lot of trauma, we learn reasonably early what Mason had been hiding and it breaks your heart to hear what happened. He's determined that Reed will be protected and nothing will happen to her again.
I love that this book centred on the developing relationship between the MCs and how they were navigating through given what Reed just walked out of.
Neither one was really ready for a relationship but they spent time together, they got to know each other and they became friends, became what each other needed in order to heal and move forward. I enjoyed seeing another side of Mason that we didn't know existed before Reed, who knew he could be a romantic 'cheese ball'.
I also really enjoyed watching Reed slowly start to become the person she lost when she was with Carter. These two might not have started out with sizzling chemistry straight away, and Mason really was so patient with Reed, but these two have something different, it hits different, and they're absolutely perfect for each other. They build each other up and Mason allows Reed to be free and be whoever she wants to be.
I am a little sad that this series has come to an end, this has been such a favourite for me this year and Eva continues to outdo herself! But while I'm sad about this series ending, I'm also buzzing with excitement to read about Steel and the Vegas chapter of the Twisted Kings.
This has been one hell of a ride. If you love tortured heroes, sassy heroines, and a found family that would do anything for each other no question, this book, and the series is for you

Author: Eva Simmons

Couple: Reed Jackson & Mason Zane

Tropes: broken MCs, dark romance, mafia x MC x corrupt billionaires, roommate romance, trauma rep, forced proximity, instant attraction, friends to lovers

Review: Word To The Wise is the culmination of the Twisted Roses series and I loved seeing the final member find his HEA. Mason and Reed have a heart-wrenching romance that is full of personal growth, trauma and found family. I enjoyed the way Eva delivered this last book and will forever have Mason as a grade A book boyfriend!

Reed was a FMC who intrigued me after meeting her in her brother’s book and her story was not one I could have ever prepared for. It was so heartbreaking and raw that it was almost impossible to put the book down while reading. The way Eva was able to write about the trauma and emotional/physical wounds Reed suffers from made it seem real in the best and worst ways. I appreciated the way she did not shy away from the topics and made them the cornerstone of Reed’s character to allow us to see her growth as the book went on. I also loved how Reed’s journey was one of healing and found love. Seeing her flourish in this book was perhaps my favorite part!

Mason Zane was the MAN. While Jude and Fel will always have a special place as m favorite in this series, Mason was really the good guy of the four. I found that I rooted for him to get the girl from the beginning and it only grew as his past was revealed. I adored the way he was always there to push Reed to take risks but was the first one to hold her when she needed it. The bond and friendship he had with her was so beautiful that I never wanted this book to end. Eva truly outdid herself with Mason’s character and I loved that the sweet-bad boy was the last one to find love!

This book was a mix of darker themes and there are aspects that make it the darkest of the four in the series. Reed’s past in one full of darkness and Mason’s is not super different. The way they were different sides of the same coin made me appreciate their differences but also loved how they could anticipate the others actions. Eva was able to give us just enough push and pull but also pack the romance full of banter and trust which was just as important. I enjoyed seeing the cameos from the other couples and cannot wait to meet Jamison Steel in her next series!

Rating: 5/5, AW-mazing. Hands down the most heartwarming and tragically beautiful story in this series!

Thank you to Eva for sending me this ARC!

ARC Review

This is the fourth book in the Twisted Roses series. This was my first book by this author so I did not read the previous books, but I fully intend to get into the backlog. I will start right off by saying this book was HEAVY. It does describe scenes of domestic violence of a main character (not at the hands of our hero!), as well as metion of sexual assault, drug abuse and suicide by secondary characters. If any of these topics are an immediate no go, this is not the book for you. With that said, let's dive into it.

Mason Zane has a dark past and is haunted by mistakes he has made. His demons are a constant companion as he tries to rebuild his life. He finds himself apprenticing as a tattoo artist and renting from his boss in LA after escaping his family and trauma back in Las Vegas. When his boss's little sister bangs on his door one night hysterical, slightly out of it and bruised and bleeding, his whole world changes as he makes it his life's mission to take care of her and vows vengeance given the chance.

Reed Jackson grew up around a motorcycle club who taught her to be tough from a young age. So when she finds herself six years deep in an increasingly abusive relationship she finally decides she's had enough and flees to her brother's apartment. When she shows up with nothing but her ID and money in her pocket she realizes that it's only Mason living there now and faced with the choice of staying with him or moving to the club compound, she picks Mason. Through his patience and kindness and gentle caretaking, she slowly starts the long slow journey of healing. Her ex isn't leaving her alone, but with Mason, her brother Sage and the MC and tattoo crews in her corner she gets her strength back and rebuilds her life.

Mason and Reed are so amazing together. They don't hold expectations of one another and take each new thing as it comes. Their patience and understanding and care they each take with each other is absolutely beautiful and when these two give in to their desires for one another.. they light it up!! 🥵🥵🥵

I highly recommend this book if you like:
* Biker's Daughter
* Tortured Hero
* FMC in Peril
* Touch her and ☠️
* Redemption

Thank you Eva Simmons for having me on your ARC team for this book. It was absolutely incredible and I absolutely devoured it!

Word to the Wise is the final installment in Eva Simmons’s Twisted Roses series, and it left me with a bittersweet feeling and another five-star read from Eva Simmons. I’m sad that it’s the end of this series because I’ve grown to love these characters, just like with Eva’s other books. However, it’s Mason and Reed’s story that stole my heart, elevating it above the rest in the series. Eva sure tore at my heartstrings with these two, and I know I’ll be pondering over their happily ever after for years to come. Yes, this book is worthy of being reread so many times in the future, just like the rest of the series.

From Cold Hard Truth, I already knew that Mason and Reed were going to win me over because they were two characters that were broken, but only they could help mend each other back together. Mason was a mysterious and alluring character who had a tragic backstory that I needed to figure out. The same goes with Reed, who is Sage’s little sister. She shows up at Mason’s place (which initially was Sage’s place) to find a safe place after what happened with her ex-boyfriend.

I loved both Mason and Reed for different reasons. Mason was protective and caring, especially when he saw what happened to her. He wasn’t going to let anything happen to Reed, even if Sage questioned his motives at first with his little sister. What sets their relationship apart is how Mason immediately went into book husband material (not book boyfriend) due to everything he did for Reed, including learning how to cook for her. He reminded me so much of my husband when I first met him.

Reed is a beacon of strength and resilience, captivated me with her ability to escape her past and find happiness with Mason. Mason and her may have been opposites, especially with the way they grew up, but these two complimented one another and they learned from one another. I loved the scene where Reed shares her mechanical skills with Mason.

Mason and Reed’s book is not for the faint of heart, so check the trigger warnings. This book had a lot of twists and turns, especially toward the end, that I wasn’t expecting, and my heart was pounding the whole time while reading the conclusion. I loved having all the characters from the series show up in this one and how supportive they are of one another. I’m going to miss these characters, but I know Eva is going to have me fall for even more characters in her new series.

This may be the end of Twisted Roses, but it’s just the beginning for the Twisted Kings, which have a part in Mason and Reed’s book. Yes, Eva’s setting up a new series, and it’s an MC Romance series. I can’t wait for it. I know it’s going to be another series I’m going to love from Eva Simmons.

I recommend this book, along with the others in the Twisted Roses series, to readers who enjoy dark, gritty, steamy romance stories.

This book was such an emotionally charged read with characters that you instantly fell in love with.

I loved Mason so much. He was little lost and a little bruised from life's hard hits but he was a knight in shining armor for his girl and Reed was definitely his girl! From the very beginning when they both weren't looking for love or a relationship, their friendship was so genuine and full of affection. His care and attention was the sweetest.

Then there was Reed, what a freaking warrior! Her struggles were so heartbreaking and so real. I felt her pain, her shame and her confusion. It was an emotionally hot mess but she was lucky in that she had great friends, a brother that loved her, Mason at her back and her own resilience to help her get back the girl she thought she'd lost.

If you love supportive Heroes, great found family vibes and a heroine that doesn't give up and fights for her chance to love and be loved again, #WordtotheWise is a must read! Definitely recommend it!

An amazing end to the series

This was the story I wanted for Mason and Reed. I thought the series was going to end with Sage so I was excited to learn that they were getting their own story. As with all of the books in this series, Word to the Wise was angsty, gritty, and just a touch forbidden. I loved Mason who is a golden retriever through and through. He takes care of Reed in so many unexpected ways but he isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty to protect her either. I simply adored him from start to finish. Though Reed wasn’t the same girl we met earlier in the series, she was the perfect blend of strength and vulnerability, struggling to overcome the pain of her past. This roommates, slightly forbidden, MC-adjacent romance had me in my feels just where I love to be; and was a story to be savored.

All Reed ever wanted was to get away from the dangers and darkness of her childhood, living in an MC compound. Thinking she had found her future, she soon realized she was living with a monster – a man who was determined to possess and maybe even break her. Eventually she had enough and fled. Arriving on her brother’s doorstep one stormy night, she finds herself asking Mason Zane for help. He becomes her safety and her protector and it’s one she desperately needs when the monster from her past comes back for her.

You can’t help but feel for Reed and all she survived to find herself on Mason’s doorstep looking for help. I adored how Mason helped her slowly find her footing and rediscover the woman she wanted to be. The ending had me rooting for them so hard. I also loved how this story and the entire series allowed us to get to know the entire found family of morally gray characters as they each found love. And with each subsequent book, we also got to see where they are now. These stories are steamy, with an edge of dangerousness that made them perfect dark-contemporary romances. I’m sad to see this series come to an end, but I’m super excited to see what comes next with the Twisted Kings.
