About the author

Daisy Meadows is the pseudonym used for the four writers of the Rainbow Magic children's series: Narinder Dhami, Sue Bentley, Linda Chapman, and Sue Mongredien. Rainbow Magic features differing groups of fairies as main characters, including the Jewel fairies, Weather fairies, Pet fairies, Petal fairies, and Sporty fairies.

Narinder Dhami was born in Wolverhampton, England on November 15, 1958. She received a degree in English from Birmingham University in 1980. After having taught in primary and secondary schools for several years she began to write full-time. Dhami has published many retellings of popular Disney stories and wrote the Animal Stars and Babes series, the latter about young British girls of Asian origin. She lives in Cambridge, England with her husband and cats.

Sue Bentley was born in Northampton, England. She worked in a library after completing her education and began writing for children once her own began school. Bentley is the author of the Magic Kitten, Magic Puppy, and S Club series and lives in Northamptonshire.

Linda Chapman has written over 50 children's fiction books, including the following series: My Secret Unicorn, Stardust, Not Quite a Mermaid, and Unicorn School. She lives in Leicestershire with her husband and daughters.

Sue Mongredien was born in 1970 and grew up in Nottingham, England. She has published over 100 children's books, including the following series: The Adventures of Captain Pugwash, The Magic Key, Frightful Families, and Oliver Moon. She has also contributed many titles to the Sleepover Club series and written picture books. Mongredien created the Royal Ballet School Diaries under the pen name Alexandra Moss. She lives with her family in Bath, England.

Daisy Meadows and her fairies are my childhood. I collected so many in my youth, knowing all the fairies and their importance, and sticking with the two special girls who go to be a part of the magic.
Years ago I had to give my beautiful collection away, now still part of my childhood school where little girls are picking their favourite fairies and playing pretend. It's fun to hear stories from my old teachers telling me how over the years so many students have grabbed these books and fallen in love with the tales of two girls, Jack Frost and the fabulous glittering magic that is the fairies.
On Christmas last year, my sister surprised me with a boxset of these books, but cause you cannot collect these darlings as easily anymore. I was over the moon!
If anyone has a little one who needs a little magic in their life, wants to read and needs a big creation to be hooked on...it is Daisy Meadows!

There are seven Dance fairies and they are: Bethany the Ballet Fairy, Jade the Disco Fairy, Rebecca the Rock 'n' Roll Fairy, Tasha the Tap Dance Fairy, Jessica the Jazz Fairy, Saskia the Salsa Fairy and Imogen the Ice Dance Fairy. Their magic ribbons are needed to help people dance properly. The goblins are drawn to music that matches their ribbon and feel the need to dance. They also temporarily gain ice magic and ability to freeze people. Rachel is staying with Kirsty again and they need to help the fairies!

Hold tight to the ribbons, please.
You goblins now may feel a breeze.
I'm summoning a hurricane.
To take the ribbons away again.
But, goblins, you'll be swept up too,
For I have work for you to do.
Guard each ribbon carefully,
By using this new power to freeze.

Just as with all the Daisy Meadows fairy books, this one is a cute adventure where the human girls help the distraught fairy find her magic talisman before people can’t dance anymore. I like the idea that each type of dance has its own fairy.

I really like that they did not lie to each other, and the goblin was nice and gave back the ribbon. I also liked that everyone helped in the problem ( except for the parents.)

As close to Jazz as the earth is to the moon, but regardless of that this is the next instalment in the dance series which is very similar to the singing series.

I read this with my 7-year-old daughter who loved it. Anyone who has read any of the rainbow fairy books before will know why. They are designed perfectly for her age group. Each story features best friends Kirsty and Rachel having to help a fairy friend from Fairyland in their perpetual battle with Jack Frost and the goblins. This one is no different.

This story is about one of the dance fairies, Jessica the jazz fairy, and, just like the other dance fairies, she can't find her missing magic dance ribbon. This means that until the ribbon can be found jazz dancing will be ruined.

Naturally it is Jack Frost that stole the ribbon to use the magic to improve his and the goblins dance moves, but when the King and Queen of Fairyland demanded he return the ribbons he asked his goblins to hide them. It falls upon Kirsty and Rachel to help Jessica get her ribbon back.

Of course there are the multitude of clear and simple pictures along the way to bring the text alive too.

As for my daughter she loved, in addition to the story, the opening poem and the hidden ribbon you have to find somewhere in the book.

Overall a typical rainbow fairy story.

Our oldest is enthralled with this series and I am so glad that she is becoming an avid reader. She only has two books left in The Dance Fairies series, so I'll be interested to see which series she picks next. This book was about the same as the others. Not very interesting to me, but it only takes about 5-10 minute to read each one, so I read it after she does and we can talk about the books.

Dec 2011 update: My youngest finished this book, too, and is looking forward to reading the last two books in the series. This is the first Rainbow Magic series she has read and I am sure she will read more.

Set at a jazz-style party, Rachel and Kristy help Jessica the Jazz Fairy find her "jazz" music ribbon that was stolen by a troll.

This is a cute, little fantasy read with lightning fast pacing and little to none characterization. I would recommend this to 1st-2nd grade readers or reluctant 3rd grade readers. I would never just say this book is just for girls, but more than likely, that will be the target audience. I would also recommend this read for kids who love fairy books.

Read-a-likes would be the Flower Fairies Friends series, Disney Fairies chapter books, or even the "fairy-type" books written by Gail Carson Levine. For obvious reasons!

Rachel and Kristy went to a party at Alexander's house. It was a jazz party but the dancing wasn't very good because Jessica the Jazz Fairy's jazz ribbon is gone. The dance ribbons help make the dancing well. Rachel and Kristy found Jessica the Jazz Fairy there. They help her get her magic ribbon back from a goblin that they also find at the party. They chase the goblin right into the pool and he came out shivering. He was cold and wet so Jessica said she would make him warm and dry again if he gave them the ribbon.

Perfect for bedtime reading - chapter a night and you're done in a week. Simple enough for a five-year-old to follow, but with a few new words here and there. Very little to the story (each of these books amounts essentially to one chapter of a normal book), but makes a nice stepping stone to other books. This one was much, much better than the previous one I read in this series (one of the Party Fairy books).

I read this for a program we were doing at the library centered around this book. The program was a lot of fun. We had brownies and fruit punch, just like in the book. I also taught the children some simple jazz steps. We also made magic wands with the "dance ribbons" attached. The book (the entire series) is really good for children who are beginning to read chapter books. The font is large and the sentences are simple. There are also illustrations throughout the book.

This collection of the rainbow magic books is "The dance fairies" This time Rachel and Kate have to help the dance fairies collect their dance ribbons back. Each book focuses on a difference dance fairy and the adventure Rachel and Kate go through to find the dance ribbon. I think these books are perfect short stories for a younger child but as an older reader I can see how basic and pick out the flaws within the book and that is why I have given it a 2 star rating.

I liked this type of dancing.
