Cover Me

When paramedic Nick Swain responds to a shooting in a seedy neighborhood, his entire world is thrown off its axis. His life is threatened…twice. Allegations of racism and medical neglect threaten his career and his ability to sleep at night. Not that he’ll be sleeping any time soon after the incident throws him into the path—and arms—of Detective Andrew Carmichael.

One hot night after another with Andrew may help Nick relieve some work-related stress, but sex won’t solve every problem in his life. With the media hounding him and the city watching his every move, he starts to wonder if the world is out to get him.

The world may not be out to get him, but someone is.

And that someone wants Nick dead.

Trust Me

On the scene of a multiple murder that’s grisly even for a veteran homicide detective, Brian Clifton is stunned when one of the victims bears an uncanny resemblance to his boyfriend, James. As the similarities keep piling up, so do the bodies… and the evidence pointing to James as the killer.

Since long before the shooting, James has been dishonest. He’s been evasive. Oh, and there’s that minor detail he withheld from Brian about being a gambling-addicted drug dealer.
James may not be the best boyfriend in the world, but he begs Brian to believe he’s no killer. In fact, whoever did pull the trigger undoubtedly wants to finish what they started, and Brian is the only one James trusts to keep him safe.

But how much is Brian willing to risk to protect a man he may not even know?

Search Me

In the beginning, Detective Andrew Carmichael and paramedic Nick Swain barely escaped Nick’s delusional stalker with their lives. Now, months later, the physical scars haven’t quite healed, and neither have the emotional ones. Lingering guilt and resentment threaten to tear their relationship apart, but Andrew isn’t ready to give up. He’s nearly lost Nick once, and he’s not giving him up this time without a fight.

In a last ditch effort to keep them together, Andrew suggests a weekend away, but is that enough time to find a reason to keep their relationship alive?

Or is it time to let Nick walk away?

L.A. Witt

L.A. Witt and her husband have been exiled from Spain and sent to live in Maine because rhymes are fun. She now divides her time between writing, assuring people she is aware that Maine is cold, wondering where to put her next tattoo, and trying to reason with a surly Maine coon. Rumor has it her arch nemesis, Lauren Gallagher, is also somewhere in the wilds of New England, which is why L.A. is also spending a portion of her time training a team of spec ops lobsters.

Authors Ann Gallagher and Lori A. Witt have been asked to assist in lobster training, but they "have books to write" and "need to focus on our careers" and "don't you think this rivalry has gotten a little out of hand?" They're probably just helping Lauren raise her army of squirrels trained to ride moose into battle.

I generally like L.A. Witt's work & to get stories for free? I'm all about that. Stories about men in uniform, yum. It's been too long since I read this for me to sum up all three with a good recap review, I'm sure others will have done a much better job already. If given the opportunity to get this set free or reduced, jump on it. I definitely recommend it.

Quell’occasionale sguardo ricambiato

che manteneva abbastanza a lungo da farmi chiedere...

Brian e James/Eric…

I've read a lot of this author's books, I absolutely love love love this author.

1. Cover Me - 5 stars

Love this one... Very realistic, love the intimate scenes, very nice!!!

This one had a few rare typos in it, which is very unusual... They’re not spelling typos, either - more like missing quotation marks, missing indentations at the beginning of paragraphs or indentations added in the middle of paragraphs. This looked more like a formatting issue.

Here are a few examples of this author’s great descriptive writing...
-“All his nodes to important people and token peons - like me - were drawn out as long as humanly possible until most of what he said was about as engaging and meaningly as the dialogue form a bad porno.” lol
-"...his endless rambling worked its way into that pugatorial duration reserved for standing in line at the department of motor vehicles and having a root canal with no anesthetic. Simultaneously."

& his answer to the press? "Clock's a ticking..." Genius! Love it!

Very well written, with some action & tense moments peppered throughout, all the way to the very end. Love!!!

(FYI, this story is 47% of the entire book...)

2. Trust Me - 4 stars
Lots of action in this story, with some intrigue mixed in throughout. Brian’s new abrassive partner, Avery, is a piece of work who has no compassion at all... All mixed in with dirty cops... Ugh!

Ricky’s teddy bear scene wanted to make me cry, so sad...

This whole novel shows how you can love someone yet still not trust them... It’s a heavy burden...

(FYI, this story is 41% of the entire book...)

3. Search Me - 4 stars

Both Andew & Nick are plagued with feelings of guilt, PTSD & nightmares. Will they be able to find their way back to each other?

This book is like a somewhat long epilogue to their story that first began in Cover Me.

(FYI, this story is 12% of the entire book...)

This was my first foray into the world of m/m romance. All three books kept me glued to my seat. The first two books had the perfect blend of suspense and romance and the third book had me bawling my eyes out. I will definitely be giving the author's other books a read.

I only read the 3rd in this boxset, the other 2 were read separately. Pretty angsty, but again they're only communicating using sex instead of talking.

Cover Me - 3*
It was a good but very exhausting read. As I always do with this author's books, I skipped all the sex scenes (too many and too lengthy for my liking), and that left me with a lot of Nick's internal thoughts that were dominated by fear and at times bordered on paranoia.

Trust Me - 3*
All in all, this was a good book. I would have liked to give it a higher rating, but as much as I liked the premise of the story I have to admit I was disappointed by the mystery. Right from the start I thought to myself, it can't be that easy, but sure enough it was. Another thing that left me somewhat disappointed was Brian. As a detective, he did nothing to help solve the crime. Moreover, his actions got more people killed. As I see it, his addiction got the best of him, making him incapable of doing the job.

Search Me - 2*
After everything that happened in the first book it's uderstandable that the relationship between Andrew and Nick would take a hit, so I see why the author decided to write this novella. Was it believable ? Yes. Was it satisfying? I don't think so. It's a short story and there was a lot of internal thoughts, nightmares, sex and not enough resolution. You can't possibly expect me to be happy with something that got addressed only in the last two chapters and was sealed with yet another sex scene?! Bottom line, this book did nothing for me and I'd have gladly accepted the not so happy yet hopeful ending of the first book.

Great set of dramatic romances featuring hot emergency service guys

I've reviewed each of the individual books in this trilogy on their own pages but I'll just drop a line here to say this trilogy is an emotionally charged rollercoaster of a ride with high octane loving and a serious body count.

Nick and Andrew feature in books one and three with Brian and James' story sandwiched between chronologically. They do need to be read altogether as they're properly interconnected and set in and around the same investigations.

I read the Market Garden series by L A Witt and enjoyed them so much I looked for other books. Sadly this series is not as impressive as Market Garden.
Book 1 is about Nick and Andrew, two emergency services employees who meet in a dangerous work situation and fall for each other. Their relationship is hounded by threats to Nick's life. The story itself was ok, an interesting plot which had purpose and satisfying results but my main issue with the book was the characters, there didn't seem to be any real chemistry between them, I just didn't 'feel' it.
Book 2 is about Brian and James, boyfriends who are on either side of the law, or so it seems, and have to rely on Brian to clear James' name which James stays in hiding. The plot in this book is better than book 1 and the twist regarding James was unexpected (in a good way). From the start I had my suspicions who was a dirty cop and was right, I'm not sure if I just have good instinct or it was poor writing.
Book 3 I don't think was needed, it focused on Andrew and Nick's struggling relationship as they both are filled with guilt about the incidents in book 1. There is no underlying police/crime plot unlike the other two books it's just about their relationship and as I found that to be lacking in book 1 I didn't particularly enjoy this book, there was no need to explore their relationship further.

All in all, this was an interesting hybrid of common tropes: hidden identity, distressed mental states and some toxicity to the relationships of characters in need of a little redemption. The first of the three stories seemed far longer than it needed to be, taking up nearly 50% of the total pages of a "trilogy," and it was there was the writing felt the most repetitious, the MC's fears and paranoia the most overplayed. The same story line with selective editing would have done much to improve the pace. The second gets high marks from me for creative twists. I felt like Witt had done her homework to make the concept as believable as possible - on a topic that was anything but. The third, due both to brevity and single storyline focus, felt more like an extended epilogue than a new title.

Book one was really great. I really enjoyed the action parts, and the romance was damn hot. The stalker was a bit too easy to figure out, but I do like how everything resolved. 4.5 stars

Book two was...well it was a fight to get thru, to be honest. For a large portion of the book I just wanted to slap everyone and everything to hell and back. Stupid policing makes me a bit crazy. The ending did pull up the rating a bit, though. 3 stars

Book three was a short story that builds off the events that happened in book one. I love how all the tension and guilt and love is all over the place and tying them both up in knots. Wish it could have been longer. 4 stars.

I don't know that I'd've picked these up if they hadn't been free, but they were recommended by...someone on Twitter, and free, so I figured I'd investigate.

They're a series of m/m romantic suspense, and they're not bad for that, but I rarely actively go looking for m/m or romantic suspense. (I liked them, and I wouldn't've been upset in hindsight to have paid actual money for them. It's been a few weeks since I read them, but I think the characters were pretty well balanced and included some non-white major characters.)

Wow

Cover Me: Cover me was so intense it was up down and all over. The love story and sex were awesome.
Trust Me: Again very intense with a lot of drama and intrigue. Again the sex was great.
Search Me: This book had close to tears so often I had a headache but it was all worth it. The sex was good but they love and love scenes were better. All in all three great books!
