Was her name really Becky? I thought it was Mary-Sue!! Was there anything this wonder-woman couldn't do? And the ending was ... meh.

Audio Review:
Both the author Bonnie R Paulson and narrator Jennifer Krist are new to me. The story was entertaining , however I could not connect with the narrator.
The characters were good but I just could not get past the narration which to me was flat and. It appeared that their was no connection between the narrator and the story that they were reading. This is a shame as It he story itself was entertaining.
Becky is a doctor in a small town in Montana and Slate asks her to help his nephew who is sick. Miss communication occurs and that brought a smile to my face as both Becky and Slate struggle with the attraction they felt for one another.
Although I did not connect to this book, it was more about the performance than the book itself and it will not stop me from listening to other books from this author.

I am not a typical romance reader or a Western lover. When I watch movies, I rather watch something exploding rather than something aimed at 'girls' (whatever that is).
So imagine my surprise when I totally loved this book. TOTALLY! I was enthralled by the rural, hard edged Slate from the moment he showed up. Sparks flew between the two leads and I couldn't get enough. I couldn't stop reading.
It's a romance so you know the basic frame work, but Paulson writes so effortlessly, you just fall into it. Completely absorbed from the first chapter. With a sick kid in the story and an emergency surgery during a snow storm, I was HOOKED. I had to keep reading. It sucked me in and didn't let me go.
Chapter after chapter I was fascinated by Slate and just wanted him to get the girl. He made my knees weak and melted me like a frozen Popsicle on a warm day. He's the type of hot headed, sexy, hero you can get behind.
I was happy it was a clean, sweet romance, with just enough fisticuffs to satisfy the violence lover in me. There's a good-old fashioned feud in this story. Reminds me of watching Dallas growing up.
Even if you don't like Westerns, give this book a shot. It's highly entertaining and expertly written!

Holy.....! Yea didn't want to spill out a word that would not be appropriate but damn, this book rocked my world! I CANNOT wait for more! My mind, and soul is soooooo hungry for more of Slate... :)
Grrrr...the way you ended this first book was so unfair, how dare you do this to me. Write faster! I need the second book like my lungs need air!
I was so upset that I had to break it up into two parts, and fill in my obligations to feed my family, do the laundry... ect, ect. I mean really, who do they think they are?

This was a good story...left on a 'to be continued' note...will read the rest of the series because I liked the characters, though the story isn't deep or thought-provoking. Just an easy, romantic, read.

For the most part I liked the book. The book was very good up to the death of Becky McDonald's Mother's death; but after that the book seems to pick up speed and is finished before you realize it. The second part of the book needs to be fleshed out. The book comes to an abrupt end. it has somewhat of a cliffhanger. Becky and Slate's story is not finished. Also, I expected more over Slate's apology to Becky. Also, more about Becky's relationship with her Dad. Also the last comments that Ronan made to Amelia about the blood tests of her son is not fleshed out. Your just left hanging on that little peace of the story. Also, there are these little comments about Robbie, Slate's twin brother that leaves you wondering about him. This book had the potential to be much better than it was. This was a clean read.

The premise of this book had me really intrigued. City doctor stuck in the rugged and snow-packed wilderness with a handsome cowboy. And I am growing very fond of cowboys (don’t tell my husband – who is from Wyoming, actually). It was that and more though.
Slate looks like a man’s man, but actually held a wonderful gentleness to him. He’s a vet – yeah, he helps injured animals – SWOON! More than that he has stepped up where his twin brother has fumbled and is taking care of the ranch and everything/everyone on it.
Becky, or she-doc, as Slate so lovingly calls her is a firecracker! Like Slate, I was bewildered by her at times. It was really hard to say she fit a certain heroine mold – and I LOVED that. She was a city girl but seemed at home in the country, too. She really didn’t let anything handicap her.
These two together were a mix of hilarity, sex appeal and frustration! We know when two characters are destined to be together, and I just wanted to mash them together like we all used to do Barbies. Obviously, that would have take away from a lot of funny moments and made for a bland book. I was frustrated at Becky’s lack of decision at times. This book had all of the sex appeal without the actual sex, which is never a problem for me :D I think that this could be recommended to anyone. Maybe a bit too much heavy petting for the kiddos though ;)

I liked the feisty protagonist Dr. O’Donald in Spurs and Lace. Becky is not one to let anyone tell her what to do. But when it comes to the man with the beautiful body, she can’t make up her mind.
Slate MacCallister is very handsome and very troubled. Mac, the child he thinks the world of is deathly ill so he goes to town to get the doctor in the middle of one of the worst blizzards the town has had in a long time. He sees the doctor and it’s lust at first sight.
A variety of things push them together and pull them apart so that they never actually do anything more than kiss occasionally, but that sexual tension is there under the surface. The attraction is based mainly on sexual tension though and not on personality characteristics and love. Whether a relationship of this type would succeed is unknown.
One of the things that keeps coming up is Slate’s brother Robbie. He is supposed to be Amelia’s husband. We don’t see him all through the book. This book ends as a cliffhanger and is not resolved at the end. It does suggest that the reader will find out more about Robbie in the next book.
I gave Spurs and Lace 3 stars out of 5.

Romance lovers, here is your next favorite book! I don't typically read westerns, in fact, this is my first, but I do love a great love story so I was intrigued when I saw this book in-the-works by an author who's work I particularly enjoy. Let me just tell you, I was not disappointed.
The MC, Becky is quite a pistol - firey- tempered, strong-willed and sharp as a knife. This girl is tough, smart and brave. She would have to be to endure some of the tough family circumstances she's endured along with finishing medical school and becoming a doctor. She's just the kind of heroine I adore, feisty yet fair.
Her love interest, Slate (love that name) is quite the looker and shares her passion for science and healing, except his patients are animals. He's a great guy whose managed to land himself in the middle of a difficult situation. Between his "good-intentions" and Becky's quick temper, author Bonnie R. Paulson has created a tension-filled love story which has the power to leave you breathless and weak in the knees.
Ms. Paulson's writing style is all-consuming. She literally pulls you into the story. I held my breath as Becky performed her surgeries and wrapped my reading blanket tighter as she struggled through a blizzard storm.
I gave Spurs and Lace five stars and look forward to the next book in the Lonely Lace Series.

When it comes to descriptors, this author's writing is lacking. Whether this is from a lack of real life experience or what doesn't matter, but that's the way it comes off. Here's a helpful hint-if you're going to write about freezing in a blizzard, go freeze in a blizzard so you get an actual feel for the cold and then you can really paint a picture of what it's like. Do a little research! Make it believable. Otherwise, the writing feels like nothing more than shallow drivel. Also troubling is the ending, or rather, the lack thereof. I understand that this is the first in a series, but the previews of the others to follow are centered around different characters, so it would be nice if the main characters in the original story had some kind of a conclusion before kicking them to the curb. Sorry if this sounds more like a critique than a review, but this author is capable of much better and we as readers deserve better.

This is the best free read I've read in awhile. It is more than a contemporary western romance between a vet and the new she-doc in town. It tells the inner workings of a small Montana town. The character development was well done and I felt very connected to both Slate and Becky. Bonnie Paulson writes top notch inner dialogue! I wish the romance had been a little stronger. I also found it annoying that the misunderstandings keeping Slate and Becky apart seems to boil down to the same thing over and over again.
Still, I'm eager to read the next part in the series. While this book didn't tell the complete story it did end with a HFN for the hero and heroine so I consider it a complete book and do not feel like buying the next installment is a ploy on the author's part. There are many books that are the second in a series and tell more about the characters in book 1. I see from reading the blurb that the next book will follow Slate's brother anyway.
Still, I'm eager to read the next part in the series. Good Western Story Title
The first half of the story until Becky's mother's funeral was good. After that part, the story took a definite down hill curve. It was like the author ran out of time to develop the story and had to hurry to finish it. There are some very good story plot ideas in the whole story but not fleshed out in a logical way. The doctor's actions were not realistic half of the time nor were the romantic episodes. The author may be wise to do more study on the realities of ranching, veterinary work, funeral protocols, legal workings, alcoholism, doctor practices, and family dynamics. The love relation between Slate and Becky was well told most of the time. The interaction of sibling relation between Amelia and Ronan was vague or violent. The story is interesting enough to want to finish but gets a D for the ending. By the way where did the Lace go.

Actual rating would be 2.5 stars. This book was ok...there were parts I really liked and there were parts that I felt were either unnecessary to or detracted from the plot. The book was written fairly well with only a few marginal errors and dialect was for the most part, entertaining.
Character development could've been worked on a bit more and the detail flow of the story line was at times a little bit dragging.
Overall, I thought the story was pretty cute, easy to follow and not too terribly predictable. I won't be continuing this series only because I don't feel the next edition (if it was anything like this one) would be worth 2.99, if it was offered as a free read I would probably pick it up.

Oh Slate, that boy is something else, "you remind me of a horse I own." Slate had no reason to lie, plus what woman didn't want to be likened to a beautiful animal?" I thought the book was okay I really liked it when Becky told Slate what she wanted, "I'm saying once we get this wound figured out and you get back on your feet, you can pick me up on Friday. I want a proper date, with flowers." She thought for a second, what else constituted as a proper date? "And chocolates. I want those, too." The book was okay, it didn't really get my blood pumping as much as I would have liked.

I don't like modern westerns, and I don't particularly like romances, but I love Bonnie's other books, so I picked this one up.
It is SO GOOD! I was overjoyed with how quickly I was pulled into the story and how it felt like I was right there with them. I even found myself talking to the main character (in my head, because otherwise I would look crazy) when going through a difficult moment and her giving me a bit of a pep talk.
Absolutely a book everyone would enjoy, even if you don't like westerns or romances :)

If you like cowboy romance I think you should read this. I liked the Becky and Slate. They are hard on each other. I like Amelia and Ronan has his moments.
I finished the book and got the second one right away. I had to know what happened next.

Cowboys and Romance
If you like the modern day Cowboy and romance this is the book for you. It has so many twists and turns and then a cliffhanger. I would love to meet Slate he sounds so Yummy and caring.

Not Bonnie style (pun intended). Plot is laced with sexual attraction and immature characters, the two main characters were like a couple of horny teenagers. The author says the book is for her grandpa “Grandpa wanted feuds, danger, love, and cowboys.” I wouldn’t show this to my grandpa!

Enjoyed the story. Modern day western. I was kind of hoping Slade and Becky had some kind of a relationship but I guess I have to wait until the next book.
