I started reading this book with the desire to really like it, and in the end it just drove me to distraction.
In the end I couldn't finish it. I tried, I really, really tried, as I dislike not finishing a book. But it just got to a point where I couldn't continue.
I think it's one of those books where you either really love it or really dislike it. Unfortunately I'm in the latter category.
The synopsis sounded intriguing, so started reading it full of gusto thinking I'm going to love this book. The typo in the synopsis should have given me an indication of things to come. It just all went downhill from there for me. Despite having the revised edition, with all the formatting errors supposedly corrected, it was full of grammatical errors and a number of typos.
Aside from that, TBH I just thought it was pants. I know that's a harsh comment, but it's how I feel about this book. I read some of the other reviews and honestly thought I was reading a different book to everyone else, like I was in the twilight zone.
I love a quirky book and writing style, but this was just bizarre. It had a really juvenile way about it. There was no natural flow to it, the dialogue and internal dialogue was strange to say the least, along with plot inconsistencies.
I could elaborate on the points I've made, but I think it's important for people to read it themselves. As I've said it is one of those books you either love or hate, so you need to make your own mind up. This is from a new British Indie Author who appears to be getting a good steady following, so there is plenty of love for this book, so go ahead and have a read because you might just love it.
i had this book of the author to read bfore it went out, i found the plot good and enjoyed it very much , i found sometimes i got lost in the story as things was happening to fast , and wanted to find out more bout the man in the book, nathan as i felt he was still hideing something ( youl kow what i mean when you read it ) i found my self thinking i knew what was going happen next lol ( but was wrong ) the author kept me gussing , i cant wait to read book two of this series and keeping an eye out for up and coming books of kizzie darker well done on your first book x
Oh how I love great story filled with British words and sayings !! I love imagining the sound of the accent and I seriously giggle at some of the words and sayings !! I am sure the author feels the same as she reads all the US reviews with our famous slang terms and such !! This was a very fast paced book for me , almost too fast paced BUT part of me wanting to know more made me read faster so I am partly to blame , if I could have slowed myself down and let some things soak in I may have been able to read between the lines !! No shortage of drama and suspense , almost right from the start !! Add to that some hot chemistry and you have the makings for a great series.
Joanna has had her heart broken and in the hopes at getting better she decides on a trip to Paris with her twin brother. What she wants out of this trip and what she gets are two whole different ball games !! I can bet anything Joanna didn't think this trip would rock her world in more ways than one. Meeting Nathan , the mysterious man who they rent a place from may be the best or worst thing to happen to her. Nathan is hot , wealthy and very very mysterious. I am not a fan of insta-love , instant attraction and desire yes but insta-love not always a fan. In Joanna's case I get it , she is vulnerable , looking for an escape and this beautiful brilliant man is paying attention to her so why not , go big or go home right !! Unfortunately Nathan is being sought after and his issues become Joanna's issues. Kidnapping , family secrets , past mistakes and new struggles plague this story and keep you on your toes trying to figure out who did what , why and what will happen next ! I said it was a fast ride and I was not lying. The family secrets that come out are HUGE and I was quite shocked at Joanna's reaction and lack of emotion towards some of the events. Joanna and Nathan are proving to be a very challenging couple. He seems to have many secrets and she seems to be a runner. Can they make something of their attraction ?? Or are their struggles to heavy to accomplish anything but destroying one another ?? I do have to say this ends in a big cliffy so be prepared with book 2 and 3 since they are all available now !!
I was provide a copy of the book by the Author for an honest review.
I just finish reading this book, and I love it I am so glad that I got to read it, I love the characters and love the way this book turn out to be, I am gone keep this short since I don't want to give anything away, this book is so different from what I am so use to reading, I love it from the first page to the very last page.
This story begging with Joanna she is having dinner with her boyfriend, everything looks good to her into they seat down, and Luke started talking what Joanna never though was that Luke was gone break up with her, for the last four month Joanna has being moping around with a broken heart, into her twin brother told her that she need it to move on, that's when she decide that she was taking a trip for one month to Paris, after letting her parent know about her plan, as soon she got home she gets a phone a call from an unknown number, that's when she talks to the very sexy hunk of Nathan Jones, after agreeing of renting his apartment in Paris they exchange emails and text, and when she finally meet him in person she cant believe how sexy he is would she fall for him, or will she keep him at distance, Nathan is a successful business man he works as a C.I.A. Agent but Joanna don't know about that, she also cant stop fighting the feelings that she has for him but their is just one problem, Joanna thinks his marry, would Nathan and Joanna put their issues aside of would they fight for the love that they have for each other.
I really love and enjoy reading this book, I love the way that Joanna and Nathan act with each other, love the way they felt in love, and love the way how Nathan become protective of her, I just love this book, Author Kizzie Darker THANK YOU for introducing me to this amazing characters and this awesome book love it.
Joanna heartbroken, wallowing in alcohol and self pity decided she needs to go to Paris for a month to get her thoughts and self back together. She has wasted enough time in the past. It is time to move one. Her twin brother, Jake, they go to Paris. Needing to have a place to live while stay for a month, the mysterious owner of the villa calls to speak with Jake but get Joanna instead. She is completely taken by this man’s voice. What is wrong with her? She wants this man sight unseen.
Jake and Joanna head to Paris. Things seem to go perfectly until Joanna meets the voice from the phone calls face to face. She wants him like no other. Mr. Nathan Jones. He is just as taken with Joanna but there are secrets from his past that will come to haunt them both.
As the story continues, Joanna learns more about Nathan’s past she still wants to be with him. Nathan feels that he should try to keep her safe so that means not being with her. He does not want harm to come to her. But he is unable to stop Joanna from being kidnapped. He will do everything to save her.
Their relationship seems to go at jet speed. They are completely in love within a month. As the secrets of Nathan’s past and one from Joanna’s come to light, they are perfect for each other.
This story does end in a cliffhanger. Looking forward to the next book to see if Joanna and Nathan have what it takes to endure anything to make a life together.
I enjoyed the story but thought that it was rushed with the storyline. I would have loved to see more drama with the mafia and Joanna’s father. But over all enjoyed the book.
This story is about a young woman named Joanna, who has recently gone through a heart-wrenching break up with her boyfriend, Luke. To drown her sorrows, Joanna goes clubbing her with twin brother, Jake, and finds temporary comfort in a bottle. However, when Joanna meets Nathan Jones, her whole life changes dramatically.
Nathan is young, sexy and owns several nightclubs and restaurants. He is financially successful and sexy to boot. Nathan has an ailing wife in a coma, and was hanging on to what was left of her, until he met Joanna. They hit it off immediately – Joanna feels the sparks flying, but knows that Nathan is not telling her everything. Then one night, he discloses the fact that he is still legally married, but is falling in love with Joanna. And – by the way – he is not just a thriving business owner; he’s also a member of the CIA.
All of this new information has Joanna questioning her involvement with a married man, a member of the CIA, and anything else he could be hiding. One night, her fears become very real when she comes face to face with members of the mafia – the very people Nathan is charged to watch over. Is this danger worth the risk of falling in love? Is Nathan playing her, just as a “cover”?
There are many twists and turns in this book (and a wallop of a cliff-hanger), that will keep the reader intrigued, and wanting to know more. Sexy love scenes, a love story and a thriller all wrapped up in one book. I am looking forward to the next book in the series!
Joanna got dumped by her boyfriend Luke, she was very upset because she thought Luke was the one for her. She shut out her parents, the only person that she will talk to is her brother Jack. She tells Jack that she is thinking of going to Paris for a month. Joanna invites Jake to go with her to Paris. Joanna finally after four long months she decides to tell her parents what happened. She tells her parents of her and Jake's plans to go to Paris and they offer to pay for the trip. While she is in Paris she rents an apartment from Nathan Jones. Joanna cant stop thinking about Nathan, Her and Jack decide to go out to a night club. While at the night club Nathan is there. She starts to dance when Nathan comes to dance with her. Joanna to me is a very strong person to go through what she went through with Luke. Wants to find herself again, cant stop thinking about Nathan. Jake is Joanna's twin brother. He is very protective and is always there for Joanna. He is gay. Nathan Jones is a very strong person his wife is in a coma. He is part of the CIA and he has the mafia coming after him. While reading this book I was happy, and sad at some of the parts. Also while reading this book I felt like I was a part of the story. I enjoyed how the characters all interlocked together. This is my first book by Kizzie Darker and it will not be my last. I read this book in less then a day and I literally couldn't put this book down. I'm so glad that my friend recommended this book to me. I can't wait to see what happens next.
This is a story that takes you from Coventry to Paris to Edinburgh to Cardiff to Las Vegas and is full of action, secrets and betrayal.
Distraction and Desire is written purely from the POV of Joanna, who is absolutely devastated at the start from the break up of her relationship. She is struggling to deal with the bereft feelings and cuts herself off from family and friends. Her brother though is persistent and together they set off to Paris. It is here that she meets the enigmatic businessman Nathan Jones. The attraction between them is instant and intense but everything is not as it seems as Nathan reveals his secrets to her. These have the potential of destroying their fragile, fledgling relationship.
Nathan is a CIA agent as well as a successful businessman and is on the trail of a Mafia boss. His attraction to Joanna is deep, pure and intense. Whilst he is strong and certain, when it comes to Joanna he is protective and a little bit needy. He sees Joanna as his salvation from his past.
One thing is certain in this story: trust no-one. There are lots of twists and turns along the way as Nathan tries to bring down the Mafia boss and protect Joanna from harm. Whilst the story has a tendency to jump around, it is still a good read and with the cliffhanger at the end I will definitely be following up with the next in the series. It is a really promising start to a new series.
Joanna is a young women trying to escape the heartache of her boyfriend cheating on her, only to fall into the arms of a man, who soon consumes her every thought, while on holiday with her brother. Nathan, the man Joanna so quickly feel for, is not what he at first appears to be. He is hiding some dark secrets, as is another man Joanna has deep feelings for. This book takes you on a journey far and wide while many a mystery unfolds and tragedy looms around the corner. From the time I picked it up I couldn't put it down. A sensuous fairytale romance develops or of a simple email, and the meeting of the two is the beginning and the end of life as they knew it. The details and characters are extremely enrapturing and might I say this is an amazing life that I would love to have the chance to live through. No it's not all sunshine and roses but through the deception, torture, and tragedy a love grows that any romantic would love to find. If you haven't read it yet I suggest that you add it to you TBR.
I enjoyed this book but the details were a little too much and it was a kind of slow pace. There are times that it would catch my attention and interest, but then it would slow down again. It was definitely an up and down from fast to slow paced book. It does end on a cliffhanger, but the second book is well worth it. I was given an ARC for my honest review.
~~~~~~~~~~Patricia's ★★★★★ Review~~~~~~~~~~
The story of Joanna and Nathan is a whirlwind of mystery, intrigue, a love story of the ages. Joanna gets involved with Nathan who turns out to be a CIA Agent and gets involved with something's that puts her in a lot of danger. Things that Joanna always thought to be true turns out that it was all a lie. Just how can she get a grip on what is going on between her and Nathan as thing start to unfold in their lives will it all blow up at the very end? This story kept me wondering what was going to happen next and was written so that it keeps you guessing on what will happen next.
Distraction and Desire 4***** This book is fast paced and full of twist and turns.
Joanne who who is left heartbroken for her last relationship, so she's cuts herself off from her family and friends. The only person she keep near is her brother. They both set off for a month break to Paris. It's there where she meets Nathan Jones. Swoon
Nathan Jones is gorgeous, sexy, and successful business man and a man of mystery. The attraction between them both is instant and intense,.
Will Joanne stay when Nathan reveals his secrets? Or will it destroy their fragile relationship?
One thing is for sure in this book trust nobody, love all the twist and turns.didn't like the cliffhanger tho lol. We will definitely be keeping my eyes open for the next one.
What a tale! Joanna breaks up with her boyfriend. Her brother, her twin, talks her into telling her story to their Mom & Dad. The twins go to Paris to recoup. Nathan calls back and talks to Joanna. He piques her interest. The twins rent an apartment from him. Nathan is interested in Joanna too. They get together and she realizes he is "the one". Life happens and the twins go home. There is danger and lots of surprises. This is a must read. Lots of fun and intrigue. Can't wait to read more of her books.
Kizzie Darker did not fail to please with this book! Joanna Woods is devastated after a horrible break up. On a whim, she and her brother leave for Paris to get away. She meets the handsome Nathan Jones and begins on a journey of twists and turns. Distraction & Desire was full of supsense, but a sweet love story. Just when things are going good, BAM, there's another twist to keep you hooked! Kizzie Darker has a way with words that make you feel like you are actually there in the moment and can see all of this unfolding. I definitely recommend this book.
This is a fast paced book with more twists and turns than you can shake a stick at. Nathan was attentive, gorgeous and a man of mystery all wrapped into one. I liked the suspense throughout the book...it kept me on the edge of my seat but it was the love story in amongst all that suspense that kept me hanging off the authors every word...I enjoyed Distraction & Desire and look forward to the second book very much!
I liked the book as it was full of action, secrets and betrayal and taking you from Coventry to Paris to Edinburgh to Cardiff to Las Vegas .There are many twists and turns in this book that will keep the reader in suspense . I would recommend this book to anyone for a read .Find out for yourself read all about Nathan and Jo what adventures they been on . Waiting to read the next one hope it makes it to a movie :)
Distraction & Desire by Kizzie Darker is a fabulous read. This book kept me on pins and needles waiting to see what would happen next. The twist and turns throughout the book keeps the reader's immediate attention. The ending is a huge cliffhanger that makes you want more! The story flowed very nicley and the characters were easy to relate to. Now I must start book #2!!! This is a great read!!!
This is written from the POV of the female character Joanne. It starts with heartbreak and follows her through her dealing with that and then meeting someone new and what happens. It started a little slow for me but I continued reading and was glad I did. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
I Enjoyed the book. It was deffently fasted in pace. But I Loved the plot and where the story was taking its place. This book is also very (I don't want to say hot), but It was different. I liked the books. Nothing bad to say about them.
This was a difficult read but I stuck it out till the end. Guess what there is freak in cliffhanger. So the question is- Is it worth the dollars to figure out what happens. I am not so sure.
Action packed story full of lies, twist and betrayal just when you thought you understood something it all comes crashing down and its a game of who's who and why. This will keep you sucked in from beginning to end to find answer.
I highly enjoyed this book. It had a lot going on to keep me glued in. I'm moving on right to book 2. Can't wait to see what's next. This was intense and had me glued.
I love reading about nathan and Joanna they are an amazing couple i didn't want to stop reading I've been hooked kizzie darkers distraction and desire is one of the best books I've read
I received a copy of this book from the Author, after winning in a giveaway.
Woah!! Where do i start?! Firstly, if you're not a fan of fast paced action, this might not be for you. But, for me, i really enjoyed it. Because of the quickness of it, it meant that every page you turned, you were hit by another 'OMG' moment! The twists and turns in this story, had me, at some points, on the edge of my seat.
Nathan Jones... Oh, Nathan Jones! He's the main male character, and does he pack a punch. At first, i really didn't like him, and he had me rolling my eyes a few times. You know, though, that he holds many secrets, maybe not has powerful as you later find out. There were also moments that he did things that i really, really didn't enjoy. One moment in particular, (which i won't say as to not spoil)made me so angry, and i wanted to scream at Joanna for letting him do that, and then brush it off the next day as if it didn't matter. No way would i let THAT happen, nor would he be in my life anymore, but hey, this is fiction so those things can happen and be forgotten about. But, later in the story, i seemed to warm to him, and he was such a sweetheart when he was just with Joanna.
The description in this book was amazing, and very well written. When i read, i always have my own description of people and places in my head, but i actually could see everything play out in-front of me this time. That was different to me, and i liked that.
Like i said previously, this is FAST PACED, and yes, maybe i felt at really small points i was missing some information, but i would never let that take away from an enjoyable read. Oh, and the ending!! OMG, i will be downloading the second to find out what happens with that cliffhanger.
Ok so this book was seriously crazy. I really liked it but man did it take you on one hell of a ride full of suspense, twists, turns, and had a cliffhanger that makes you want to throw your kindle across the room.
This is Joanna and Nathan's story. After a particularly messy breakup with her boyfriend, Joanna runs and decides she needs a vacation. While in Paris, she meets the sexy, mysterious, and totally sinful Nathan. Nathan is a rich, successful business owner or so she thinks. He also happens to work for the CIA though Joanna has no idea of this. As these two fight feelings for each other, Joanna knows Nathan is hiding something but what she doesnt know it that he is hiding BIG things from her. When Joanna finds out Nathan's secrets, will she walk away forever or fight for her love?
Hmmm, while Nathan is very alpha, sexy and successful guy, I am having a hard time loving him for certain reasons. Otherwise he would be an incredible alpha male that we look for in book boyfriends. I also got very perturbed with Joanna. She started out very immature but she had grown on me by the end.
I have to say that a few things did not sit right with me and crossed some lines BUT I still liked this story. I really can't wait to see where it goes next. I want more of Joanna and Nathan!
I won this book from the author last year and I've been looking forward to reading it for ages after hearing good things about the main man, Nathan Jones!
On starting to read though I did find the main female character - Joanna Woods - a little naive and perhaps annoying; I really wanted to like her but I couldn't.
I couldn't feel any chemistry in the relationship between Joanna & Nathan until around 80% into the book although I would loved to have done so sooner as even though he has secrets, Nathan is hot and a charmer.
The storyline itself seemed rushed and at places felt like there was parts missing; with the nature of the story I would have liked there to have been more drama. Nevertheless, Kizzie did a good job of keeping big secrets hidden until they were revealed and I did gasp a couple of times.
This story ends on a cliffhanger so though I don't feel it was 100% for me at this time, I do want to read the next installment to discover more about the mysterious Nathan Jones!
Kizzie Darker did a really good job at describing the emotions and thoughts that were going through Joanne's heads. I could see how she was battling upset and depression and how she was working through things. That being said, I also found Joanne was far from my favorite character. Her thoughts tended to be annoying to me a lot of the time, and then she seemed to run a lot. It bothered me.
I also felt that the whole CIA thing almost felt like it wasn't real. Honestly I thought it was fake for most of the book even when Nathan admitted it. I'm not sure it was just how it was introduced or whatnot but I just felt like he was just faking being a CIA agent for most of the book. Until one scene that really drove it home for me.
Distraction and Desire was a good book in other aspects, while others I really didn't like.
I had a hard time getting into this book but stuck with it. The book is OK, I did enjoy the plot. The characters were also just OK for me. I'm still wondering about a few of the characters and hope some answers are given in book 2 that will shed some light on the hows and whys. I felt at times it was choppy and maybe more thought needed to go in to how the scenes were started and ended. There was a couple of redundant parts in the story where the same thing is said so it would probably benefit from a run through with an editor. I will read the next book in the series, when it comes out, because Ms. Darker has potential with this story and I'd like to see how her writing abilities grow with her 2nd book. Well, and the fact that it has one hell of a cliffhanger kind of ensures I read #2 also.
* I am one never to giveaway any spoilers. At the start of the book I was trying to feel it out. This was the very first time I have ever read any of Kizzie's books. I thought it moved really fast but I also think that's what caught my attention. I was like who is Mr. Nathan Jones? He sounded sexy at first the he was kind of whinny, but I was upset with Joanna for falling so fast.....BUT then the action came and I was like holy crap. Need to go to sleep. It's 2 in the am, then it was 3 am, and then 4 so I had to sleep at least for a tad bit. It was awesome. There was a MAJOR cliffhanger which at the moment I am upset because it's 3 am and can't start it. I have an ARC after this so I WILL be coming back. Kizzie, it was good and I have tons of questions but I bet it's in the 2nd book? Lol This book has really impressed.
