One year after the failure of Operation Shadow Fall, the fragmented remains of the Rebellion roam the Wilderness, searching for a fabled weapon that will turn the tide of the war.
They are hunted by the Spectorium, an army of elite Specters led by Grand Admiral Derek Blaine. Driven by his last promise to 301, he will not stop until Grace Sawyer has paid for his partner's fate and the Rebellion has been destroyed.
As their forces converge, an old enemy from the East lands in World System territory, bringing with them a firestorm of blood and vengeance.
Pursued on every side, Grace must hold her rebel remnant together against the forces that would tear them apart. But as the Rebellion's very existence is threatened, she realizes that just surviving will not be enough.
The only way to save her people is to become a conqueror herself.

Shadow Heart is the third installment in the Shadow Soldier Saga by J. L. Lyon, and like its predecessors it did not disappoint as a page turner. I actually found myself going to bed hours later than normal just because I had to know how the story progressed! By the end, I had a solid connection with the characters and wanted to know that the story ended as they wanted it to. Like the second book, Shadow Heart had a good twist at the end that, while I suspected might be coming, still was a lot of fun. That being said, the book did seem to deviate from the direct story line of the first two books. In a way, it seemed a bit of a supplemental story than a primary one, mainly because the characters who were almost entirely followed in the first two books were only given passing consideration in this one, if any at all. Secondly, an underlying theme that directed the characters’ thoughts and actions only appeared in passing in the third book as well. It still worked, and based on the author’s blog I understand why he did it, but at the same time it seemed as if I was reading about slightly different characters than those from previous books. All in all, I still really enjoyed this one. Once the series is finished, it will be one I display on my book shelf with pride!
