Zoe and Jack’s trip to Rome was supposed to be a romantic one-year anniversary celebration with a little business on the side. Jack’s fledgling security company has landed the plum assignment of providing additional security for the opening night gala of a museum exhibit featuring priceless gems.
However, the easy job turns complicated when they discover the exhibit is the next target of a cat burglar who has struck several times in recent months, snatching up a hoard of sparkling jewels. Opening night goes off without a hitch, but then the police accuse them of switching the real gems for fakes.
With the exhibit’s organizer missing and planted diamonds showing up in their belongings, Zoe and Jack are forced to delve into the shady side of the diamond trade in a search for the culprit, a journey that takes them from the fountains and piazzas of the Eternal City to the snow-capped Alps.

Zoe and Zack are in Rome on their 1st anniversary and of course trouble finds them. Soon, instead of enjoying the romantic setting, they are being accused of jewelry theft, conspiracy, murder?? And traveling across several European countries tracking to real culprits in order to clear their names.
Sara Rosett, a native of Amarillo and the author of the Ellie Avery mystery series, has also written a suspense series which is now available at APL. As a military spouse, Sara Rosett, has moved frequently and has traveled internationally. In the Ellie Avery series, she offers helpful hints about her experiences moving. The On the Run series allows her to share her experiences abroad.
In the fourth book of the On the Run series, Zoe and Jack Hunter head to Rome to provide extra security for the opening night gala of a museum exhibit featuring diamonds. After the gala, Zoe discovers that a piece of the featured set is in her possession. The exhibit’s organizer goes missing and the three of them become the main suspects. Zoe and Jack are on the run again trying to stay off the radar of the carabinieri while tracking down Harrington the organizer who threw suspicion their way. Their search starts in Rome and wends its way through the Alps. Along the way they come across several people who are added to the list of suspicious suspects. I invite you to join the adventure and read SUSPICIOUS.
Sara Rosett’s writing style is engaging and action-packed with a touch of romance. I love the vivid descriptions of each location. The only thing that is missing is the stamp from Italy, Germany and Austria that have yet to appear in my passport.
Zoe and Jack go to Rome for a one-year anniversary treat, combining it with a job from Jack's new security business. He is overseeing some of the security for a large gem show in Rome, where the Flawless set of diamonds will be displayed along with other priceless jewelry. When the Flawless Set is stolen and Jack and Zoe are framed for the theft, they suspect Throckmorton, who hired Jack. In an effort to find the jewels and convince the suspicious Rome police, they end up traveling from Rome to Germany to Austria on the track of the Jewelry. The Art Police from Scotland Yard are also after them, since they have connected this theft with a number of stately home jewelry thefts in England. A fascinating read - some of the descriptions of the Alps made me feel cold! Now that Jack and Zoe are together again, the romance angle has been downplayed a bit, which makes more room for a convoluted, but fascinating plot which builds up beautifully. I would have given it 5 stars, except that after reading four in a row from this series, the cookie-cutter element is beginning to show up. However, that did not spoil the book for me at all. A great read.
I was a little worried about this fourth book in the On the Run series, I really thought that Rosett ended everything off for Zoe, Jack and us in the third installment and I couldn't imagine what would be the lead in for this portion. I'm thankful that I stuck through that apprehension though--this was another great book!
Zoe and Jack arrive in Rome for what they think will be a simple surveillance job and then a week of tourism in their favorite city... but that could never be the case for this couple, could it? After being implicated in the theft of some pretty important jewels the pair must again prove their innocence in the way that we all have come to love, alluding the police and tracking down the real villains.
This is a great series, I'm going to have to read the last one too!
Moving on along through the series so I can get to Duplicity, which combines this is series with the high society lady detective series. That’s the one I’m waiting for but I don’t want to overlook any secondary characters in the series who may be important in that book. Two more to get through before that one.
I love this series! SUSPICIOUS is another great addition to the ON THE RUN series. Zoe is daring to the point of stupidity sometimes in her investigations but it seems a part of her personality that’s here to stay. Jack is cool, calm, and collected and loves Zoe just the way she is. Wonderful characters, super mystery plot, and CLEAN!
Another fun adventure with Zoe and Jack. It’s a work/1st anniversary trip to Rome, with an international jewel heist that takes them to the Alps. Great vacation read with enough details to make you feel like you are traveling with them!
As usual I thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Rosette 4th On the Run mystery . If you haven't read any Of her books make sure you plan on getting one so you will not miss out on the fun she Provides. Kindle customer. Sally
Edited to correct Ms. Rosett's misspelled last name. Sincere apologies, Sara Rosette! This is Sara Rosett's 4th installation of the "On the Run" series - "Suspicious."
Overall, this was a fun and adventurous thriller-lite book. I just made up the category "thriller-lite" but I think it works well. While this book is technically a thriller, there's less emotional and mental investment required when reading it. Don't let that turn you off...it's simply a quicker, lighter thriller option. Definitely entertaining, this book also provides picturesque descriptions of beautiful European locations including cities in Italy, Germany and Austria.
My review of Sara's 3rd installment of this series was a little critical of character continuity. That wasn't an issue for "Suspicious." In fact, we're introduced to a whole new cast for Jack and Zoe to interact with.
If you've read the previous books in this series, you know what to expect, and I suspect you'll find this book entertaining. If you are new to this series, "Suspicious" is a good standalone book, and I recommend this to readers who enjoy travel, mystery, light romance, smart characters and complex plot lines.
Book 4 in the series. Jack & Zoe get framed in a jewelry heist that crosses international borders. They work to find out who really stole the jewels & clear their names.
Really enjoying this whole series despite having to cope with one of my least favourite tropes - being falsely accused. I'm finding them clever, light-hearted fun.
Another great installment in the series. If you are a fan of cozy mysteries, be sure to start with book one of the series. Zoe and Jack make a great pair in solving crimes. I love the set up for the next in the series...can't wait to pick it up.
Out of all of the On the Run series, this one has been my least favorite so far. Not terrible, but not as good as the others. A lot of characters, but not a lot of depth or information for you to feel you knew them. Not a lot of action and some parts dragged out. Most of the other books I read through relatively quickly, but this one I was able to put down and forget, not excited to find out what happens next.
This is the fourth book of Sara's On The run Series, even using just one word titles Sara can grab the reader and not let go until the book is done, this is another one that I read in one sitting. Zoe and Jack have made it through their first year of marriage and are in Rome to celebrate. While there Jack's security company has also been hired for a gala at a museum featuring priceless gems. There have been several burglaries in Rome in the past few months all of them involving gems. The first night of the exhibit seems to turn out fine, but when they wake the next morning they discover that the gems are missing. When the exhibit organizer turns up missing, also, what else are people think but that he was involved. And because of Jack's connection to the gentlemen, Jack and Zoe are under suspicion also, especially when some of the jewels end up in Zoe's bag. Join them on their investigation through a few of Italy's beautiful cities for the show's organizer. Sara also writes the Ellie Avery series, which are all cozy mysteries also. I seem to have a bit of trouble deciding which of Sara's series I prefer most, maybe by the time Sara writes two or three more books in each series I'll be able decide which is my favorite. Sara is also on Facebook with information on her books and her street team, Sara is also on Instagram. Why not do yourself a favor and pick one of her books next time you're at Amazon or Barnes & Noble and give Sara's books a read.
I received this book for free through a Goodreads First Reads giveaway.
Confession: I haven't read the other 3 books in this series. The nice thing is that this book can stand on it's own. I knew enough of the character's back stories from reading the book, but I don't think the author goes on too much about it if you've read the rest.
I enjoyed this story. I loved the back drop of Rome and the Alps - it satisfied my wanderlust. So why 3 stars and not more? I can't really put my finger on it to be honest. It took me a good 2 months to read this book (I'm a read 200 pages in one sitting, or take 2 months to read 200 pages kind of gal.) I just couldn't really get into the story. So while I liked it well enough, I probably would have enjoyed it more if it were a book I brought with me on vacation and had read it quicker.
I know this is a very meh review and I apologize for that. It's just that I don't really have strong feelings one way or another about this book.
This is the fourth book in the On the Run series. Jack and Zoe are in Rome so that Jack's company can provide additional security on opening night for a museum exhibit of priceless gems. They have been hired, in secret, by Harrington Throckmorton who is convinced that recent jewel thefts have been the result of someone within his company. When the "Flawless Set" of jewels are stolen Harrington, Jack and Zoe are the prime suspects but Jack and Zoe discover that Harrington is gone and they are left to find the thief to clear their names. This is a fast paced book that will be hard to put down once you've started reading. The author does an excellent job introducing the characters and it can be read as a stand alone as well as with the series.
This fourth novel in the "On the Run" series by Sara Rosett takes lead characters Jack and Zoe from sunny Italy to wintry Germany and Austria, and back again. When they attend a function meant to honor their work, they are framed for the theft of a rare set of gems. They must find evidence to catch the real thief before they are taken into custody.
A tightly written story with strong characters, a twisty plot, great European settings, and the usual touch of romance, this book is a fun read. I'm on the the fifth book now, titled Devious. We'll see what challenges face Jack and Zoe in this next book.
I love this book series. The mysteries are very involved, fast paced and satisfactorily resolved. I will be recommending the series to my customers and friends that loved C.A. Belmond's Rather series.
