Dean Chambray is an arrogant, handsome, undercover crime boss, awaiting a certain man he must take down. Women line up for him, but when they put out, he puts them out.
Enter Amy Copeland, product of foster care, the streets and glitter of Vegas. Resolving to change her life, she abstains from relationships.
These damaged souls meet, and beneath the searing lust lies a deeper sense of belonging. Cautiously building a life together, Dean falls back into misogyny. Betrayed, Amy flees.
Recognizing his folly, he struggles to find her, while the pincers tighten around his small organization. Desperate, Dean resorts to kidnapping when she refuses to return.
It takes patience and considerable effort to convince Amy to trust him again, and accept he loves her. Then, caught up in a pre-emptive strike, her life is at risk. Dean must rescue Amy from certain death, making her his own, forever.
Allyson Young lives in cottage country in Manitoba, Canada with her husband of many years and numerous pets. She worked in the human services all across Canada and has seen the best and worst of what people bring to the table. Allyson has written for years, mostly short stories and poetry, published in small newspapers and the like, although her work appeared in her high school yearbooks too! After reading an erotic romance, quite by accident, she decided to try her hand at penning erotica.
Allyson will write until whatever she has inside her is satisfied- when all the heroes man up and all the heroines get what they deserve. Love isn’t always sweet, and Allyson favours the dark side of romance.
The plot has appeal, but the writing was stilted and boring. The word choice is pretentious and off-putting for a romance. For example, what man like the hero - indeed, what normal person in the read world - would think "he subdued his carnal instinct despite the past hiatus in their sexual congress." Really? "Sexual congress"? Is this a textbook about 18th century marriage?
Or "The section of his brain tasked with puzzling out mysteries and solving quandaries relaxed, and he felt the darkness swallow him up."
Or "The panicked sense of dread boiling up from his belly, the disparate sense of outright refusal to even consider that practical response took him by surprise."
Or "sometimes morosely wondered at the veracity of her thinking".
Not to mention, frequently the author's diligence in consulting a thesaurus results in incorrect - not just pretentious - choices.
The author's pedantic style created a distance between the reader and the story. The lack of immediacy rendered the story boring and flat.
There are so many weird word choices in this book:
"Sandra's motives were pure, if altruistic"
That reads to me like, 'the color was blue, if blue'
"I knew if you didn't get moving, you'd perseverate and ..."
Funny, GoodReads doesn't even think that's a word. I guess it really is but it feels like a thesaurus choice gone wrong.
"In a disembodied voice, she asked, 'Scrambled okay?'"
Disembodied? Her voice was divorced from her physical form? Is she a ventriloquist?
Anyway, I finished this book. And it was OK, but definitely not worth $6. I pretty much didn't care one way or another by the end. The non-relationship conflict was pretty boring.
For one, I read that the author was a social worker and I can believe that. I worked in IT at a mental health facility for children (mostly teens in state custody) for a few years. Over that time I picked up a quite a bit of the therapy buzz words, treatment strategies, and histories of some of the kids in the system to recognize them.
There was so much psycho-babble regurgitation going on. Talk about boundaries, triggers, taking care of yourself before you take care of others, etc. People in real life don't talk like that. Maybe if they've been in enough therapy it starts to slip into daily conversations, but I didn't get the impression that was the case.
Both the H/h were f'd up and knew it. The h was in a place where she was really trying to make some changes in her life, so I could buy some of her use of jargon. Still, the book was just too filled with it for my tastes. YMMV. It's odd to read about all these damaged people psychoanalyzing themselves as they continue to make bad decisions. In my personal experience most screwed up people don't recognize that they are screwed up, hence all the screwing up. Not to say you can't make a bad decision and recognize it, but dunno... this was just too much. Especially when the hero was supposed to be a crime boss and he was rattling off pearls of wisdom like 'your emotional state is your choice'.
Also, as another reviewer mentioned, there was quite a bit of pretentious language going on that didn't quite fit. Repetition of words, etc does get old, but there's a fine line between that and regurgitating a thesaurus.
This had some moments with potential. When she was kicked out by him and ran away, he tracked her down and basically kidnapped her back. Fun times, I thought. Shades of a good OTT Harley. Then she decides it's best for her mental health to just go along and not leave/be friends the very next day I was banging my head.
3.25-3.50 RATING- Several of my GR friends rated this book much higher but it was just average for me. There was a lot of things to like though. The hero was dangerous, posessive, and sexy. The steamy bits were well written I thought. The story was actually pretty good. IDK. This is the second book I've read by this author and I felt the same when finishing both stories. Just average. The stories just never came together to be anything more than an okay read for me. That's not to say I didn't like, I did. I just didn't love. If I didn't have the chance to borrow this book, I wouldn't have read it and wouldn't recommend paying for it, unless you are in dire need of an alpha asshole =)

Wow what a surprise for me when I started reading this book and could not put it down. If you like an alpha-possessive, hot, willing to grovel male, then this is the book for you. This is my first book by this author and I am so anxious to know if/when she will do another in the series. Few books grab me like this one did and I would put it as the number 1 book for me in 2014.
Dean and Amy both carry emotional baggage from their childhood and neither experienced loving, supportive parents. At the beginning of the book, Amy is recovering from physical abuse and trying to learn to make better choices in relationships. Dean is closed off emotionally and uses women for sex only. The relationship develops slowly. Amy is a strong woman and Dean fits the OTT alpha possessive male who, in the end, grovels to redeem himself and win back the love of "his woman", the love of his life. Some readers will not like Dean's attitude and some of his behavior in the beginning of the book. But he totally redeems himself and I loved the way the author developed the personal growth of both characters. There is no cheating, although the author sets it up to appear for a time that Dean did cheat when he thought Amy had betrayed him. At 50% of this book, I actually found myself reading slower because I did not want this book to end. Oh yes, the sex scenes are hot and there's a light D/S going on. I hope the author is writing another book in this series and that maybe we will be Enrico and Sandra's story next.
Dean Chambray doesn't do relationships, he sleeps with a woman and leaves. No overnights, no games, certainly no attachments. Dean's life is riddled with secrets he is a crime boss who is actually an undercover agent. Amy Copeland is a distraction, when he offers her a one night stand she turns him down. Dean is not often surprised but everything about Amy surprises him. he feels a pull and he desperately wants to keep her in his life.
Amy has had a tough life filled with mistakes until a moment shook her so hard she had a wake up call. Now Amy is trying to rebuild her life and the one big change she has is no one and done involvements. She breaks her rule for Dean and when he offers her something more, the two come to an agreement. Dean is rough and says it like it is, but Amy is not wanting barked orders and lays out what she willing to live with where Dean is concerned.
Fantastic story. i was hooked from the very beginning. Dean is a chauvinistic jerk but you come to love him and he completely adores Amy. Amy is an inspiring heroine, she made mistakes, owned them and is looking for a better life for herself. Will definitely be looking for the rest of the series.
I loved this story and hope there will be more. Amy is a strong and great woman who has had a not so good life but intends to have a better future with a man who will love her and treat her right. I love that she won't settle for less. Dean is an interesting and hard man with many secrets and major trust issues who broke his own rules to get Amy in his bed and his life. I highly recommend this book.
I'll start off by saying that Alpha males definitely do it for me...but I had issues with this one. I felt like every time Amy got emotional and/or angry, Dean would just shut her down. I'm a highly emotional person myself and get pissed when I'm made to feel bad about expressing my feelings, or that what I'm feeling isn't important. I felt this happened to Amy quite a bit. He didn't trust her and kicks her out. When he finds out he fucked up, he finds her and drags her back with no words of apology or proper thought to what she's thinking or feeling. It was just about what he wanted. Telling her to pack her stuff, he's taking her home and they'll talk there where she can't run off. (Really? That's his way of getting back into her goods books??)
Apparently, he "regretted his behaviour that day, wanted her forever and was happy about the child." But I must have missed that conversation because I never once read that he said to her "I'm sorry." I got that he was sorry and wanted her back. But that's only because I was privy to his inner thoughts as he was doing all he could to find her. But he never told her that. I got it, but it didn't seem believable that she would get it. So, it just came across as him just wearing her down with his constant presence until she got over it and forgives him just to get some damn space!
However, having said all that, I quite liked the general idea of the story. I liked the other characters too and am keen to find out what happens next. I also like the writing of this story. I was never bored (frustrated maybe, but not bored) and the story moved at a steady enough pace for me. Just would've liked to have seen a bit of grovelling!
Oh and the best part? No cheating!! And of course, a HEA :)

Awesome. Very strong characters who I really connected with. I have a penchant for bad guys anyway and Dean made me swoon. I completely understood Amy and what she'd been through and how that determined how she acted. Dean and Amy meet when Amy is celebrating her birthday with friends. She rebuffed his advances and in his view, NO WOMAN declines his interest. They meet again the same night under some odd circumstances and they realize there is something there. This was a unique love story between two adults, both of whom are a little damaged by life, that took place over the course of a little over a year - yayy!! no insta love. The writing was strong; the plot well done and the sexy times - oh my goodness - smoking hot. This was my first Allyson Young and it will definitely NOT be my last. Just a terrific read. Hated to see it end. Will definitely be a re-read for me.
Loved this book! Great characters--take charge alpha male who doesn't normally do relationships paired with a strong willed heroine who doesn't let her past define her and demands respect. That combined with a plot I found to be super spicy, have good amount of suspense, and pretty decent grovel! What more could I ask for?! Writing style was easy to follow, except for a couple of forward time line jumps I found just a little confusing. This is the first book I read from this author, but I will definitely be adding more to my library!
I won this book from a “new to me author”. It was a familiar read with a few wonderful twists and turns. The supporting cast was not just there for comic relief. There is some smoking hot sex so if that isn’t your thing pass this book by. Both Amy and Dean have issues and neither knows how to have a “normal” relationship. It was fun watching them figure it out. I will be checking out this authors backlist and looking forward to the next in this series.
The guy, Dean, is a bad guy, organised crime kinda bad guy who meets sweet Amy. They, of course, fall in love & move in together and she adjusts to his world. ... but.. because he's a bad guy, he's also got enemies, so that enemy actually makes Dean believe that his Amy is doing wrong by him and sets her up so it looks like she's had dealings with Dean's enemy. Dean gets all angry after seeing the photos and goes home & tells her to pack her sh*t & get out. She had no idea what he's talking about, in fact, she was in the middle of cooking him a fancy meal cos that night during dinner she was going to tell him that she's pregnant. Anyway, she leaves with minimum stuff and tries to cope by herself & her pregnancy. She is absolutely heartbroken, totally resolved to live without him & raise the baby by herself. He finds out that she's actually innocent and tries to find her immediately. It takes ages but there's no news and one day, he finds the empty pregnancy test at home and then he's frantic to find her. So he finally finds her, he walks up to her and says (the same thing): "pack your sh*t, your coming with me" and she reluctantly goes with him cos he kind of threatens to bring trouble to where she is. So she goes with him to protect the people that she working for (they treated each other like family). So he takes her back home, she's not happy. She's really angry & defeated. He's rough, unapologetic that he brought her back home cos that's where she belongs cos he made a mistake. It takes agesssss for her to forgive him. It kind of happens gradually and the makeup s*x is really good! BUT the enemy manages to kidnap Amy whilst she's heavily pregnant, so Dean rescues her, has to rush her to hospital cos she's about loose the baby/maybe die. They all live happily ever after. Oh & there's a twist, cos he's not actually a bad guy, he's actually a good guy trying to catch the mega bad guys!

This book was way too wordy. I was bored to death 20% in. The main characters weren't very appealing either.
I read this book like a week ago and to be quite frank the book was that dull I cant even remember much.
I hate ripping into a book that is from an author I've never read before but...yeah nah wont be reading more from Young. She just isnt my type of writer
A good story. The Hero makes lots of mistakes and by 50% he's blow it and kicked the heroine to the kerb. The rest is his acts of redemption to put right his mistreatment of her.
This was a good read about two people with issues due to their backgrounds who find they actually make each other whole. Dean Chambray is deep undercover as a crime boss, but his lifestyle is to be a love them and leave them kind of guy. Each girl gets one night, maybe two, if she doesn’t cling.
But then he runs into Amy Copeland. Something about the big blonde appeals to him in ways he doesn’t understand. Her rejection of his advances makes him all the more keen to see her again. Once the two finally make connection, the interaction between them sets fire to the pages. They also learn that Amy’s background in the foster system then as a Vegas show girl mirrors Dean’s upbringing as the son of a drunken bitch.
Little do they know that Dean’s job will threaten Amy and the future they are trying to create. Can they overcome their bleak pasts and the current threat to have an HEA?
Both main characters were fun to meet. Dean is a bad boy, but he’s also overprotective Alpha. Amy is very strong, but susceptible to making bad choices. Their connection sizzles both in bed and out.
Allyson Young’s books tend strongly to pathos and this offering is no different, but the exploration of the psyche’s of the two characters makes the emotional roller coaster well worth the effort of reading it.
Amy Copeland was raised in the foster care system, the streets and Vegas. Amy has trouble with relationships and always picks the wrong one so she stays away from all relationships now. Amy’s best friend moves around with Amy and is the one person that she can trust.
Dean Chambray is a hot and sexy man whose main business is not always on the up and up. He is basically a crime boss looking to take down another crime boss. Before Amy woman lined up for him and Dean had the pick of them. Dean falls for Amy at first sight.
The chemistry between Dean and Amy is blistering. The sex scenes are hot and spicy. When Dean is faced with an issue with Amy, rather than talk to her he kicks her out. Dean is not the nicest guy and Amy leaves everything behind to protect what Dean has no idea about.
Forever is the first book in the Eternity series by Allyson Young. I found this book well written. The main and secondary characters were interesting and realistic. This book will suck you in and not let you go until the very end. Overall, this was a great story. I can’t wait to read the next book. I hope we get to see these characters again in the future.
This story was ok. I thought the h was kind of slutty. Her attitude about her past trauma was so nonchalant that I couldn't feel any sympathy for her. The whole mystery surrounding the H didn't make any sense. I still don't know what he was doing. From the very beginning the story didn't flow. There is an unnecessary BDSM scene, the h decides to become intimate with a stranger (considering her history this was confusing), the H and h become a couple and are suddenly calling each other "babe" and "sweetheart." Of course the h is a great homemaker. After the misunderstanding the h miraculously finds a family willing to take her in and see to all her needs. When they are reunited, the h is upset for a little while and then they are back to being happy together. This story had a lot of potential but didn't deliver.
The blurb sounded fantastic and I couldn't wait to get started, but at 18% I wanted to dump this. But since I spent $7.00 on it I forced myself to keep going, and it just kept getting worse. As soon as H & h met, I felt like I was watching them sit across from each other on some sort of speed date. In just a few nights they're telling each other their deepest secrets and planning to move in together. There's no journey of self development here. No, this author skips write through that and just tells you everything point blank. There's no adrenaline pumping, no anticipation, no chemistry, no mistry, no character development. Nothing. Zilch. And at 73% no groveling. Now I'm going to DFN. It's that boring.
Here's a story about a man ho with issues and a woman who knows what she's worth. I love that Amy stood up to him: told him no at the initial pick up, kicked him out of her house, called him on his time frame. She wasn't going to stand for being used or cast aside. And Dean? He was a clueless manho, so messed up by his mother's carelessness, but he grew as a man with Amy at his side. And of course being the alpha male, he didn't do enough groveling, but was willing to wait her out and work with her to gain her trust again. Then on top of all this, Dean isn't exactly who he's claiming to be.
I loved my adventure with these two characters: Amy Copeland & Dean Chambray...It takes Amy quite awhile to trust Dean again...Especially where he's an undercover crime boss...Where Amy is having a hard time risking alot of issues...and Dean steps in for the RESCUE...Was definitely hard to rate this book and to not give it a 5 star it's wonderful and that's what i'm going to give it...Will definitely be watching for more books in this series...
For me, a definite improvement on the story front than her previous works. H was a bit more off-putting, but in a way also refreshing. Spent some time building the characters' backgrounds. But have to agree with some reviews here about the the weird turns of phrase. Bet people don't talk like that in their heads, a deluge of big words.
Still looking forward on the next one for this series.
