Badminton loving, bun wearing, anxiety conquering, queen of knitting, Lila Greer is back! The Questioneers’ teacher Lila Greer returns in her very own chapter book complete with all the students of Blue River Creek to solve a local mystery!
When a dreadful storm blows into town, Lila is rudely awoken from her shuttlecock dreams by a shrieking shadow. Unnerved and a little worried, Lila seeks out the things that bring comfort including a visit to the local art gallery owned by Iggy Peck’s parents. Taking a sneak peek at avant-garde artist’s Marvelo’s exhibition with the children, Lila is surprised to find a dozen empty picture frames. Who has stolen the artwork? Lila loves a good mystery and armed with her maginifying glass and with help from the Questioneers they are determined to solve the mystery and help Iggy’s parents open the exhibition.
Having read the picture books and some of the chapter books it’s wonderful to see how elements of those stories and our favourite characters woven together. With a STEM focus, revisiting Rosie Revere’s famous inventions was a great inclusion. The Toot- and-Scoot creation is a joy to behold.
We really enjoyed reading this book and getting to know Lila even better. The extra nuggets which preface the chapters include insights into Lila’s list making and how she soothes her anxiety. David Roberts two-tone illustrations capture the characters we love so well.
Most of all we took away from this story Lila’s empowering message that she passes on to Iggy Peck ‘𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙛 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄𝙛𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙗𝙖𝙙 𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙡.'
The seventh book in this series. This one focuses on Lila Greer as she is the one who solves the mystery of the shrieking in the night and the missing items and art. Readers get to see the whole cast come together to figure out what happened. I love her bravery in getting in the helium suit to figure out who caused the mess.
Easy chapter book, grades 1-4. This is a quick, sweet read with illustrations and large lettering. Includes STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) as well as friendship, art, a mystery, and surprises. This one also has a focus on anxiety, and strategies to cope/handle it.
