Return to the luxury hotel for dogs in The Woofmore Is Not Haunted, the second book in the pawsome full-color chapter book series from authors Donna Gephart and Lori Haskins Houran and illustrator Josh Cleland Welcome to the Woofmore, where the water bowls are always full and there’s kibble on every pillow! Rufus and his boss, Ms. Coco, work hard to make every guest feel like a VIP (Very Important Pooch). Mr. Fang spends all his time thinking about scary things, so he needs a vacation full of rainbows, unicorns, and bubbles. Rufus is happy to oblige. It should be easy—after all, the Woofmore is not haunted . . . or is it? With adorable illustrations and hilarious text, this early chapter book series will hit young dog lovers smack in the funny bone! The Woofmore seriesWelcome to the Woofmore (#1)The Woofmore Is Not Haunted (#2)The Woofmore on Thin Ice (#3)
# 2 in the series is just as rip-roaring, howlarious, and root-a-tooting of a chapter book as the first one. Rufus is eager to please, a loyal and dedicated employee of the Woofmore Hotel. But whenever Rufus gets nervous or scared he can’t help but let out a toot or two. And when scary-story author, Silas Fang, comes to stay, Rufus is put in charge of making sure everything is pawfect for The Woofmore’s VIP (very important pooch) guest. Turns out that Mr. Fang wants a vacation full of rainbows, unicorns, and bubbles - nothing scary there! Rufus is sure he can fetch all of these for Mr. Fang until 3 other guests declare that the hotel is haunted. TOOT!!! Glossy artwork and lots of wordplay guarantee wagging tails on every page.
This book is precious. The artwork is stunning. The characters are fun and quirky. This book delivers laughs and chills at the same time. This book is everything an early reader could possibly want from a graphic novel. I am so looking forward to recommending it soon. Thank you so much to Abrams Kids and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this book.
I have a soft spot in my heart for chaper books. My favorites have lots of humor and sometimes a bit of mystery or magic. I do like animal characters, but I can't exactly explain why some hit the right note with me and why others fall flat. The dog characters in Donna Gephart and Lori Haskins Houran's Welcome to the Woofmore series ring true for me and I am hooked. I got the first book from a local library and when I saw the second one available on Netgalley, I requested it. The Woofmore in Not Haunted takes on the plight of the scaredy cat quite nicely. Woofmore employee Rufus doesn't understand why everyone seems to like the scary books their celebrity guest, Silas Fang likes. But fortunately, Silas is on vacation and wants a break from spooky things. Instead, he asks Rufus for unicorns, bubbles, and rainbows. He wants everything bright and cheery for a change. Unfortunately, the hotel has some guests who have mistakenly heard that the Woofmore is a haunted destination, and spotting Silas Fang has them convinced they will get a good scare as part of their stay. Can the Woofmore Staff deliver up bright and cheery while also providing scares and screams? You'll have to read the book to find out. Illustrations by Josh Cleland add to the appeal of the series. I love the way he draws the dutiful Rufus and Coco, his chihuahua boss. This is a great series for animal-loving, newly independent readers
The second Woofmore book finds Rufus having to take care of a famous author, Mr. Fang. Things get scary for him when other dogs show up claiming the Woofmore is haunted. Rufus must convince Mr. Fang it isn't.
This was really cute! I haven't read the first one in this series but I was still able to enjoy it a ton. Easy to read with cute pictures!
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

4 stars = Great!
I enjoyed this second trip to the Woofmore. The story is a bit richer than in book one where things are just getting introduced. It's lovely that Rufus doesn't have to fake loving scary things, but he faces them bravely in order to do a good job for his friends and for the Woofmore. This is a darling chapter book series!
We read these because my sons like them, but they are very very cheesy, with many dog puns peppered throughout that honestly are probably beyond the understanding of the age group reading these books. My 6 year old didn’t get them at all. However, the illustrations are bright and colorful and show great expression in the characters. Overall they’re quick and cute, but there’s similar books we enjoy more.
This is a super cute early chapter book that is highly illustrated. I loved all of the dog related plays on words (pawtograph, Chef Goodboyardee, etc.), as well as the variety of dogs. I didn't get a chance to read the first book in the series, but I will definitely take a look at it. Great for fans of Selfors' Wedgie and Gizmo.
A spooktacular tale for young readers, featuring Rufus and a full cast of furry friends. Rufus is determined to do a furst-rate job taking care of the guests who stay at the Woofmore, but when rumor gets around that the Woofmore is haunted, Rufus has to work extra hard to ensure that their latest VIP (very important pooch) is happy, even if that means producing unicorns, bubbles, and rainbows.
The Woofmore series is so funny, entertaining, and adorable! The Woofmore is Not Haunted is fun for all ages! The dog puns are pawsome 🐾 We can’t wait for the next Woofmore book!
4 stars Solid entry in this new series for emergent to secure readers - a famous horror writer is visiting the Woofmore but he doesn't want to hear anything scary.
