Pilder and Rilla Duskhand have been summoned to deal with a mysterious magical orb. No problem! Rilla is an expert in magical artifacts and Pilder is head of the Nascent Spells Department at the Anthurium. Except, when magic and wizards clash, things tend to not go as planned. Are they going to have to commit treason and call on an ancient magical source or can they find a way to serve their queen with a clean conscience? Pilder’s wicked sense of humour and Rilla’s charm might not see them through this one!
“Soul Threads” is a witty clean romantic fantasy novella with a PG 13 rating.
Grace R. Pringle is a Canadian kickboxing, D&D playing, homeschooling Mom of six kids, who is married to her best friend and fellow author, Stuart Pringle. She writes things. Mostly books, but also some poetry and short stories. She also dabbles in art and graphic design for her own amusement.
I read this as an ebook, but I ended up loving it so much that I had to grab a physical copy to add to my shelves. :)
Soul Threads is a quick, funny read that also serves as a compelling introduction to the author’s world of Quith. I am so excited to read more of her stories!
I particularly love that this story is centered around a happy, already-married couple! You don’t see that portrayed in fiction all that often, so it was a real treat to read about.
What a delightful read! Light-hearted, fun, and even romantic. I enjoyed seeing a married couple banter back and forth, tease each other, and work together toward one common, magical goal. This is well written and seems to be setting up for the next book in the series. Definitely worth the read!
I loved this story! I really liked the banter between the husband and wife. It was a fun read! I wish there was more to this short story... maybe one day there will be! . . . . . . . . . . . *spoilers* The removal of the black soul thread reminded me a bit of Aslan removing the Dragon skin from Eustace scrubb in the voyage of the dawn treader.... which is one of my favorite analogies ever, BTW. So that was amazing.

Soul Threads and Bone Threads are both very enjoyable reads. They are fun and intriguing. I especially love that they are about a happily married couple, which is pretty rare - seems like most books feature a couple falling in love, which is fun to read about, but I really like reading about a couple staying in love over the years.
First off, I have NO idea why this specifies PG-13. I'd say it's an easy PG. There's some hints in a dark story behind something that is a spoiler, but no swearing, no violence other than a spell going wrong and flinging some stuff around, and a married couple flirts and kisses, but like nothing my husband and I wouldn't do in public.
Overall fun quick read that got me through my exercise bike. Magic system and world building seems interesting from the taste we get here.
Does suffer from "adjacent to a larger story so characters talk about things they already would know for the benefit of the reader" once or twice and I had really assumed these were youngish newlyweds until they drop they have adult children fairly late in the story... which ironically is the opposite problem from the older, but I kind of expect some of this in supplemental additions to a larger story.
Like the struggle to let people know what they need to know to understand the world established probably much more easily elsewhere while also not distracting from the story at hand is real.
This book is a fun and easy read that has a dynamic duo as the protagonists with adventures from within and dangers from without. I was quickly drawn in to the relatable couple that has refreshingly bantering friendship within their marriage that has depth and trust. This intriguing plot sets us up for more adventures to come! Can’t wait for more books about the kingdoms of Quith.
Delightful short, magical fantasy story. The characters are given a magic puzzle to solve. Their interactions are humorous, yet you see the deep love and respect they have for one another. The glimpse of their situation in this world makes you want to read more. What happens next? How does the queen react? How does what they do affect them and their family?
A very interesting peek into this unique take on fantasy! I absolutely loved the witty dialogue between the couple in this - Grace did a great job capturing it and it reminds me a lot of my own interactions with my wife. :)
The magic system in this is definitely unique and makes me want to explore more of the world of Quith!
A fun first look into a new world and the relationship between the two main characters. The banter is fun and cute. My only complaint is that the couple seem much younger then they really are, but then again maybe it's their non human blood jazz ing things up.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A delightful quick fantasy read by @gracerpringle
Pilder and Rilla are summoned by Rilla’s father to unlock the mystery behind a powerful magic orb.
They quickly realize the orb isn’t as it seems and that a stronger magic is calling them than the magic they’re already bound to. Can they answer the call without being branded traitors?
The short story (on the long end of a short story word count) is well paced and sets up really well the world of Quith for future full length novels. I enjoyed it 😊
One thing I will say is that the rating and part of the genre the author designated to this story is misleading. It’s a PG story rather than PG-13, I would term this strictly a comedic fantasy not a comedic romantic fantasy. It has romance elements, but the story overall isn’t a romance.
I loved this book! It was a fun and quick read that blended magic, family dynamics and partner relationships. I'm looking forward to reading more books by this author.
I absolutely loved this story. Great characters, witty dialouge, and a compelling story line written into 37 pages so I could enjoy the whole thing before going to bed.
I was enjoying it, but it all wrapped up very abruptly. However, this is a long short story? Short novella? So there wasn't a lot of room. I would definitely read more of this author's writing.
