Summer Pierce is determined to date only nice guys.

When her latest prospect reveals himself as an alpha jerk in decent clothing, Summer doubts her ability to distinguish good from bad. Especially when her hot, pierced, tattooed library patron with an aloof attitude ends up supporting her on her darkest day.

Could trusting a "bad boy" be a huge mistake?

Cole Allemand visits the library for the books, but he stays for the librarian. Summer is as bright and warm as her name, and luckily, she has a hero worship for authors. While Cole works days at a local animal shelter, at night he's putting the finishing touches on his novel. All he needs is a book deal, and the woman he's been crushing on for months will be within reach. Only Cole finds he can't wait for the publishing world to give him his go-ahead, especially when he knows his past may push Summer away.

As the two form a bond outside of the library, Cole works to strengthen the connection with all the tools at his disposal, including serialized fantasy stories, adorable cats, and an in-depth understanding of the Dewey Decimal system.

When a mysterious stalker threatens the librarian's safety, trust becomes the element that could turn their tale into a true romance or tear apart the fragile happy ending.

If you like Helen Hoang, Lauren Landish, Christina Lauren, and Talia Hibbert, you'll love this swoony & steamy contemporary romance!

four stars! ⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚ this definitely is more of a 3.5 rating but at the same time it’s more 4 stars than it is 3 stars so i’m just going with it :)

anyways, this was a very sweet and adorable romance! summer’s character got on my nerves here and there, but ultimately she was a very sunshiney character! cole was my favorite character, the “bod boy” with a charming heart. i loved how he called her ‘my librarian’ like that was just swoon worthy. the plot itself was fine, i didn’t really care for the stalker aspect bc it really didn’t seem like it was an important part in the book until the end for the climax. but despite that, i had a really fun time reading this! even though it’s over 400 pages, this was paced pretty well and it felt like such a short read! it was very cute and overall just an adorable romance! <3

What I Liked:

What Wasn't My Cup of Tea:
• Summer
• Her stalker
• Jaime
• Cole's "Bad Boy" stereotype

Overall Thoughts:
Honestly, this book was so close to being a 1 star. Some conversations were so cringe & instead of Summer being 'charming' & 'quirky' she was really just annoying. I was intrigued by the synopsis but was let down at every plot point.

Her stalker? Easy to figure out, & the treatment was terrible, writing-wise. He disappeared for what seemed like months at a time. & the fact that Summer never went back to the police? It honestly makes no sense. She could've even gotten her own camera or something. Ugh. Plus,

Also Jaime was a plot point the author put in, then forgot about & then brought him back at the end realizing there wasn't a happy ending & then just as easily chucked him out of the story.

Lastly, Cole's whole "Bad Boy" thing. They hardly talked & it sounded like he only said "yes" to her & that was mainly it until they started talking more & got close super fast. Don't even get me started about the day her dad died. Nope. Not going there. But she completely stereotyped Cole because he wore all black & that she once saw him key a car. Ooh so bad boy. Ugh. Honestly? No, just no.

2.75 ⭐️ (rounded up)

Unfortunately very cringe and corny but ultimately very sweet. I think it’s fine (?) overall.

I think the source of the conflict on both ends is really well done with Summer’s parental trauma setting too high of an expectation for Cole and Cole’s troubled past and abandonment issues causing him to withhold important personal history.

Personally, I think the stalker storyline adds too much unnecessary conflict? I kept forgetting about it because the conflicts within the characters seemed like enough and also the story is s gentle outside of it. Then when we’d be reminded of the stalker it would always feel so jarring and out of place. It’s also just an underdeveloped conflict that feels forgotten about by even the author in major portions of the story.

Final thoughts:
I think Cole and Summer have solid chemistry, they’re very saccharine sweet in a way I don’t hate (much) I despise the toothbrush thing (I wanted to gag), this scratched my itch for a grumpy x sunshine dynamic, the opening chapters of their relationship are great, I don’t understand why Summer was so chill about going to some guy’s house when she doesn’t know him and is being actively targeted by a threatening stalker.

CW: explicit sexual content, dead parent, grief, stalking, violence, teen homelessness as a result of homophobic parents, brief moments of misogyny

I picked this book up on a whim. I'd seen several reels about this book which made it seem like it was an interesting book. It wasn't I did no enjoy this book at all.

If I had to describe Summer using one word it would be stereotypical. She was the most stereotypical FMC that I have ever read. She's awkward, an extrovert, always happy, and she's a librarian which means she hero worships every single author to ever exist. I swear the author has never met a librarian.

If I had to describe Cole using one word it would be creepy. He was creepy. All he thought about was Summer and all his thoughts were possessive. He was obsessed with having Summer and that creeped me out. He was so creepy in some cases that I literally questioned the genre of this book cause I thought Cole might be Summer's stalker. He isn't cause this is obviously a contemporary romance but I'm not joking when I say that I considered Cole as an option for the identity of the stalker.

Speaking of the identity of the stalker, that's the only thing that kept me reading this book. I wanted to know who it was. I wasn't able to call it which in hindsight is silly of me cause it's pretty obvious. Also it was all resolved super quickly which I appreciated cause that meant I didn't have to read anymore of this book.

One other note about their relationship is that they never communicated. At all, ever. This book could have been half the size if they'd just talked to each other about things. Overall not a great book and I likely will not be reading any of the other books in this series.

Don't let the cute cover fool you; the book's storyline is deeper than the image suggests.
There is an adorable black cat, and along with the library, an animal shelter is a major backdrop.

I was impressed with the story, the author's style of writing, and her characters. The H/h - Cole and Summer - came across as real people. They were young and did some cute young people shit while also behaving in a mature, rational manner when dealing with things that came their way. Summer was funny with her nerdy/nasty quirkiness, while Cole - for obvious reasons - was a little distant, but sexy and sweet. There was something about him that surprised, but didn't bother me, and it wasn't exploited and/or sensationalized, which was nice. Spoiler!
The rest of the characters enhanced the story, and they all came across as individual people - not props. I have to say that the 'villain' was somewhat of a surprise, but a bit underwhelming to me though. Still, 'Read Me' was a great read!

A huge thank you to the author for giving me a copy of this book!

I mostly really enjoyed this story. I quite liked Cole and how head over heels he is for Summer- it was really cute how badly he wanted to be a better person for her. Also, as a librarian, I was also impressed how well this book portrays working in a library.
However I dont think it needed to be as long as it was. Honestly 400 pages when its just a rom com is excessive, so it lost me a bit in the middle.

2.5 ✨

I hated the female mc, her entire personality, everything about her. Honestly, she reminded me of myself. Her constantly gushing, spouting random shit, talking for no reason, being completely obnoxious. Everything I hate about myself that’s the result of severe adhd mixed with several personality disorders:

In addition to this, I do not enjoy when people romanticize tattoos, it’s so weird.

it was going really well

Then so much emphasis on MMC bisexuality and other secondary characters orientation.
why spend soooooo much time on mmc past sexual history and dating? “I dated girls, guys and Tessa who didn’t identify” paraphrased. His best friend mentions he has dated guys “but you should talk to him about that”. Mmc mentions he had crush on Legolas character in LOTR and also on his best friend he met in prison til “he knew his bunk mate was straight” paraphrased.
Secondary character teenager was gay and kicked out of his house. Tons of time spent on that plot line.
The mmc writes online serial novel about fairy tales but with gay male characters.
Instead of promoting or supporting lgbtq community it instead took focus away from couple and made it seem like a try too hard forced storyline.
Why didn’t they mention fmc more or past?
They made her sound boring and doormatish.
Overall, Kinda gave off agenda vibes and hijacked the story. Won’t reread this story and probably not her other stories cause it wasn’t balanced.
Those LGBTQ story lines were promoted and emphasized throughout more than the stalker plot!!! Which is why it would have been awesome book if it had been balanced without agenda.
Couple lines sure, it’s hot thinking of mmc as so fluid, but don’t force feed us, it makes us lean away from ya books. 🤷🏼‍♀️
Also mmc had quite a few commentaries on the women that popped up through book on how hot they were all models of course. 🙄
Give the fmc some time why don’tcha lol.
I don’t read for social commentary I read for escapism and good stories.

Thought tho was a good read, but the first one in the series is better. Felt that this book had more noticeable gaps between the chapters. Still a very interesting story line that was very easy to get into.

This was such a great book! So much more than I was expecting. For once, tiktok did me right. I loved the whole thing from start to finish and I couldn’t put it down! So much humor and sweetness but also real life moments that just felt relatable. A hint of mystery that I really didn’t see coming. Just all around an awesome book!

dnf/read slightly more than 80 % of the book

idk what is up with the two MCs of the book
they were really cute together and I like the shyness of both but I think they both had so many things cramped inside this book that were just unnecessary for the story to develop or needed better and more detailed descriptions
I think Cole has enough shit in his past and present of his own to write about
him struggling with his past as an ex-con, him struggling with his job, the shelter going nearly bankrupt, him struggling with publishing his book
then you get crashed with Summers struggles at the same time with her housing situation, low income AND WITH HER BEING STALKED
and I really don't understand why this is only mentioned slightly like 3 times as it is no big deal because it is how it is/ this also could have been a book on it's own with more insights in this topic
there is so much going on with each character that neither of those struggles is described very deep, the topics are all brushed lightly and you get a hint of everything without understanding anything (at least in my opinion) instead of going into more detailed deep emotions with one of them so you can feel what they are going through through the words alone
there are huuuge jumps in time, Summer is talking about a presentation she has to participate in a couple of weeks, two chapters ahead she's standing in front of a bunch of people performing
first it is christmas, the second time I look Cole is wearing a hoodie with a cupid on front because of valentines day
they are dating for like half a year and Summer still has thoughts like "are we exclusive? neither of us said anything of being together..." GIRL, get your shit together! you don't want to date any other person than Cole and he is obviously in love with you, YOU LIVE WITH HIM and still don't think about as the two of you as a couple and wishing to be boyfriend and girlfriend. HE INVITED YOU OVER AT CHRISTMAS TO MEET HIS FAMILY!!! is this some gen z stuff I don't get??? but I'm like the same age as Summer?! 🥴 I really can't follow her thinking process
and he is just the same constantly being like "i need her to love me so she doesn't run from me because I'm an ex-con". he's a walking golden retriever snuggling puppies and kittens at work thinking about THAT 24/7 after month being with her... simply frustrating

overall the writing was ok but lacking content
I didn't appreciate the time gaps
🌶 1/5 most of the times the scenes just ended at the good parts and you were thrown into the next chapter with a cut 1 month ahead but it's ok if you just wanted some snuggly romance with a little hint of spice
GET ME THAT LIBRARY/BOOK UGLY SWEATER!

This one has me hella confused. Like was it good? No. But was bad? Also no? As soon as I read it was about a librarian heroine, I was like I gotta read it. And the library part is pretty accurate considering the other librarian books I’ve read lol and we had a light haired hero? Don’t see that too often. And the romance was actually nice and believable, but Summer was kinda annoying at times? Cole is giving her all the signs he is fully into her and sees long term plans for them. And Summer is like “Does he seem me as a fling or more? I don’t know if he likes me?” And the stalker part wasn’t as big of the plot line as I thought it would be. It’s a solid-ish read, enjoyable but not ground breaking.

It was so boring, which is crazy considering how many things were jammed into it in place of a plot. Nothing is really resolved, they have half a conversation and move on to the next inconsequential thing. Both the characters were annoying, but nothing was so annoying as the whole assumption that he's still a "bad boy" at 29 yrs old despite all his words and actions proving otherwise. Why oh why didn't I just dnf? I kept hoping it would get better, but it never did.

I really struggled trying to rate this. I really really REALLY enjoyed it, but also had quite a few problems with it. The problems didn't really take away from the rest of the book, but they were also hard to ignore somehow? I don't know, but I had a lot of fun reading and would reread.

I love how smitten Cole was, truly unashamed of how much he loves Summer and it was really sweet to see. Summer came across as a bit of a 'pick me' girl at the start but got better and grew into more of her own person, something I really appreciated. I think the only issue I had that may have depleted my experience of reading it a little was that Summer was so determined to misunderstand him. She was so set on him being a bad boy and that he would break her heart and leave that she just ignored everything else a lot. The first time they kiss he literally goes "we're dating" and won't go further until she agrees they're dating (it's written endearingly not like he's coercing her or anything) and then she spends like the rest of the book going "oh well I don't really know what we are, surely this is just a fling but oh no I'm falling in love and he totally doesn't want to be with me!" Summer, he told you that you were dating, he drives you to and picks you up from work, he took you for a dinner with his friends, he took you to his job, he took you home to meet his family, he takes in the homeless kid you're trying to help. I think he might see you as more than a fling?

But again, even despite that, I really really enjoyed it! Not the greatest piece of literature ever written, it does have issues, but I would totally reread.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: Ex-Con
Spice: 🥵 yes
Series: Forget the Past, book 2

Thoughts - there is so many great parts to this story, the shy, ex con, fantasy writer that works with kittens, meets the cute, independent, capable, sometimes over-sharer librarian, throw in a stalker and angst and you won’t be able to put it down. Special mention to ALL the Santa talk, I think I unlocked a new kink with that one. Definitely recommend if you after a rom com, with dragons and kittens.

Plot - Coke MMC is covered in tattoos, piercings and only wears black. He visit the local library to research for the book he’s writing but stays because of Summer MFC the librarian. She is the light to his dark, now if he could only make her fall in love with him.

* Found Family
* ⚠️ Trigger warnings
* Ex Con
* Animal rescue
* Banter
* Stalker
* Opposites attract

“I’m going to bring you to the edge with my fingers and tongue so many times you’ll be begging to come. You’ll get so pissed at me you’ll want to scratch me up. You’ll want to bite me. And when you do, you’ll have the best orgasm of your life.”

This was a cute read, a lot deeper than it originally seems. The characters were sweet, and it was a nice grumpy x sunshine story (they had funny banter which I always love!). The obvious miscommunication and whole hiding a secret thing isn’t really my thing because it’s just SO easily solve-able and sometimes Cole’s way of thinking was kinda toxic and honestly Summer REALLY irritated me sometimes (audible sighs and looking away from the page in exasperation), but they worked through it, and I’m glad that development was shown. For the most part, I enjoyed the easy read :)
