"My heart stops when I see him. Sawyer Callahan, the boy who led to my broken heart, the one I've tried to forget for so long, the one I never thought I'd see again..."
Cheyenne Hamilton was raised a daddy's girl. She never thought she would be without him. Then, one day she found out he wasn't coming home again. Not only did she lose her father, but her mother as well. Her mother became someone she didn't know, and Cheyenne knew she would never be the same. She counted down until she was able to go off to college and get away from Shiloh Grove, Georgia for good.
The only problem to her plan came the summer before she left for college in California. Her problem came in the form of a brown-haired, green-eyed boy that was only in town for the summer. She doesn't want romance. She doesn't want to stay in her hometown. She wants out. But sometimes, your mind and your heart are saying two different things.
Sawyer Callahan is helping his uncle on his farm to learn some more responsibilty (per his father) before he starts his junior year of college. He didn't want to be there, but he did like to hear stories about his late mother from his uncle. Just when he thought his summer would be a bust, he spots a beautiful, blonde-haired beauty asleep on his uncle's land. He had no idea how much his life was about to change.
The summer of Cheyenne and Sawyer's romance couldn't have been more perfect.
Too bad perfect is hard to hold onto.
"Our eyes lock, and holy f**k, it really is her. The first girl, the only girl, I've ever loved is staring right back at me."
After six years away, Cheyenne travels back to Georgia. Not for her mother, but for a new job. She also brings along her best friends from California, Cori and Bryan. She walks in on her first day on the job ready to start the next chapter in her life. Too bad it's just a flashback to the chapter she wanted to forget, but never could.
Sawyer never expected to see Cheyenne again. He really didn't expect to see her working in the same place the he was either. But there she was once again. His pretty girl was back. Are second chances worth taking?
One of my favorite things about this story was the flashbacks. I love the way it went back in time with Cheyenne and Sawyer. You saw how strong their love was when they were young, and you saw how much they couldn't deny still feeling the same way years later.
"Someone once told me that swallows are together for life, and I've been holding on to that belief for a long damn time. Fate, the universe, whatever bullshit you want to believe in, Cheyenne. Whatever the hell it was, it brought you back to me and I'm not giving up without a fight this time."
Oh my goodness! Sawyer had a way with words and I don't know how Cheyenne could stay away from him! These two had a romance that was left in limbo. Not knowing if they would ever see each other again, they continued on with their lives. I like when love happens at just the right time. Even if it's a rekindled love. They had so much stacked against them. Between family, long distance and doubt, you wanted to fight right along with them.
I loved this book from start to finish! From the hotness of the city boy to the innocence of the pretty girl, this book had it all! Another great read from Tessa Teevan!
"Wherever you are, I'll be there beside you for as long as you'll have me."
