Denis McCarthy wrote a three part series about Rob Hill serial killer and I finished book two, Awoken and I hated for the book to end- it’s that good.
The author upped his ante and Awoken has more characters, amazing detail, and your emotions are in a roller coaster ride from beginning to the shocking conclusion.
Rob Hill changes his name to move with his teenage son. He hasn’t murdered in many years but that’s about to change quickly.
This time Rob has lost almost all his humanity. He takes delight in playing with his victims and giving them hope- only then do they realize it’s the end.
He films the murders or takes photographs and more- he literally scares them to death.
Detective Andy Martins was involved from the start and plays a huge role and I cared about him and all he’d been through.
He finds love with fellow DCI detective Alice Peppers- meanwhile his daughter Scarlett falls in love with the murderers son Lucas.
Rob does not kill discriminately- he has a check off list and people are lab rats to him to toy with -which makes the reader hate him.
Awoken filled my senses with great sadness and rage. The author has a huge talent and it shows in Awoken. I look forward to the final book in the series and get the loose ends tied up - highly recommend.

"Awoken" is a gripping and intense psychological thriller that draws readers back into the twisted mind of serial killer Rob Hills. Picking up after the events of "Lyngate Woods," we find Rob trying to start a new life abroad with his young son. But the past catches up to him once again, forcing Rob down an even darker path in his relentless quest for vengeance.

Author Denis McCarthy delivers an incredibly tense and suspenseful narrative peppered with shocking twists and turns. The story moves at a rapid pace, switching between various storylines and perspectives as Rob closes in on the final targets on his murderous hit list. McCarthy has crafted a truly frightening yet eerily plausible antagonist in Rob, a man driven by bitterness and cruelty. The other key characters in the story are also well-developed and complex.

Just as in the first book, McCarthy uses vivid and visceral descriptions that do not shy away from graphic depictions of violence. These scenes are stomach-churning at times, yet crucial to conveying Rob's sociopathic lack of empathy. Along with the violence, McCarthy explores thought-provoking themes around accountability and the impact of our actions on others.

"Awoken" delivers a chilling, intense reading experience that thriller fans will love. The non-stop action, complex characters, and sheer evil of the antagonist make this a read you won't be able to put down. Highly recommended for those with a strong constitution!

And the brilliance continues.....

Time has moved on,16 years later, his son ready to start University, but Rob Hills found himself in a situation where the pleasure of killing was reignited. He wanted more, to come full circle, so the cat and mouse games with DCI Andy Martins resumed.
A fantastic 2nd instalment that is full of suprises, especially the ending. The story builds throughout the chapters, keeping the intensity and focus as it switches between the murderer and the Detectives playing catch up. The plot itself is really well written, it's execution complimenting the story and bringing it to life, taking the reader on a blood-curdling but riveting ride you won't forget. The book needs some editing but the authors skill of creating a storyline then letting his imagination develop it into a series is exceptional. Great job!

While trying to live a normal life,a serial killer makes decisions that women 'need' to die so his life can run smoothly. Narration by Rachael Cheeseman was well done.I was given this book free for an honest review.
