David Hatcher Childress (born 1957) is an American author and publisher of books on topics in alternative history and historical revisionism. His works often cover such subjects as pre-Columbian trans-oceanic contact, the Knights Templar, lost cities and vimana aircraft. Despite his public involvement in the general field of study, Childress claims to have no academic credentials as a professional archaeologist.

Born in France, and raised in Colorado, Childress began his world travels at age nineteen in pursuit of his archaeological interests. In 1983 Childress relocated to Stelle, Illinois, a community founded by New Age writer Richard Kieninger, after Childress was given a book authored by Kieninger while touring Africa. Childress chronicled his explorations in his Lost Cities and Ancient Mysteries series of books, whose core concepts were influenced by the ideas of Kieninger.

While residing in Stelle, Childress began self publishing his own works and later other authors, which focus on presenting fringe scientific theories regarding ancient civilizations and little-known technologies, as well as establishing a travel business in partnership with Kieninger. In 1991, in the nearby town of Kempton, Illinois, Childress, along with historian and linguist Carl W. Hart, founded the World Explorers Club, a group that often travels to the places he writes about, and an affiliated magazine, World Explorer.

David Hatcher Childress has appeared on several television programs on NBC ("The Mysterious Origins of Man"), Fox Network (Sightings and Encounters), Discovery Channel, A&E, The History Channel, as a commentator on subjects such as the Bermuda Triangle, Atlantis, and UFOs.

Childress has been involved in two lawsuits regarding his publishing activities, one of which failed due to the expiry of a statute of limitations and the other, involving his company's publication of a master's thesis without permission, which was settled out of court.

IS TIME TRAVEL POSSIBLE? AN ARGUMENT IN FAVOR OF IT

Author David Hatcher Childress wrote in the first chapter of this 1999 book, “the fabric of space exists in different dimensions and time, as we know it, does not exist in the same way in all of these dimensions. It is theoretically possible to ‘tunnel’ through time by accessing hyperspace. Incredibly, physics tells us that all things in the Universe are interconnected through the various fields---gravity, electricity, magnetism, the ‘weak’ force of atomic structure, and time. In theory there is no barrier to time travel, rather, time travel and time anomalies are part of the fabric of the Universe itself!” (Pg. 29)

He asserts, “A motion in which events appear in reverse order is said to be time-reversed which respect to the original motion. If some motion is possible according to known physical laws, then the time-reversed motion is almost always possible. This possibility is true for motions caused by gravitational and electromagnetic forces. It is therefore said that these laws exhibit time reversal invariance, or have time reversal as a basic symmetry… Nevertheless, according to known physical laws such a process is not impossible, although it is too unlikely to expect it actually to happen… The basic laws governing more elementary processes are invariant under time reversal.” (Pg. 53-54)

He observes, “So here we have a continuum. At one end is pure fact. At the other end is pure lunacy. In the middle are shades of an incredible and highly entertaining story that if it is true, is of historical importance. The question is---at what point on the continuum does the truth lie?” (Pg. 99-100)

He prefaces an article, “The following story was taken from the Internet. A web search for ‘WingMakers’ will turn up the relevant pages that this story is based on. The editor [i.e., Childress] cannot verity whether the following is true or not…” (Pg. 153)

He states, “Wormholes are holes in the fabric of four dimensional space-time, that are connected, but which originate at different points in space and at different times. They provide a quick path between two different locations in space and time… Distortions in space cause the points separated by the gap to bulge out and connect. This forms a wormhole through which something could instantaneously travel to a far away place and time. No more problems of traveling in a rocket ship for years to get into the future!” (Pg, 199)

He continues, “Wormholes … appear to be the main ways that time travel into the past would be possible. The limitation on this time travel … is that it would be impossible to travel back to a time before the machine was originally created… The proposal of time travel is backed by scientific theory, but that is not enough to make it realistically possible… A major argument against time travel in the past is called … the grandfather paradox… it would be possible to change the course of events that lead up to your grandfather and grandmother marrying… Thus your grandparents would never have your mother, and therefore you couldn’t be born!... Einstein’s theories of general and special relativity can be used to actually rove that time travel is possible, and research has shown that fast moving craft can travel into the future. Time dilation is the easiest method because it merely requires high velocity motion to experience time travel… Yet even these hindrances can be explained away! If the multiverse concept is reality, then most present ideas of time travel are based on a false reality. If time travel is completely impossible, then the reason has yet to be discovered.” (Pg, 200)

He states, “There are several historical mentions of time travel devices and patents. It was rumored that Bill Lear, the inventor of the Lear Jet, was somehow the owner of a time travel patent. We have been unable to obtain copies of this patent, however, Stan Deyo reports in his book ‘The Cosmic Conspiracy’ that Bill Lear mentioned the existence of such an invention. Deyo quotes from a ‘New York Herald Tribune’ article (November 21, 1955): … William P. Lear… is convinced that it will be possible to create artificial electro-gravitational fields whose polarity can be controlled to cancel out gravity.’” (Pg. 211-212)

He reports, “A search of the world-wide web will result in … an interesting organization called the ‘Time Travel Research Center… ‘From it inception, the Time Travel Research Center has been a leader in the development of capabilities to pursue this goal and is the only company of its kind dedicated exclusively to pursuing the achievement of time travel… and has become a company positioned to remain at the cutting edge of the scientific advances and achievements that may someday help mankind realize time travel capabilities…” (Pg. 239-240)

Completely ‘unscientific,’ and based on unsupported interpretations of speculative ideas, some readers may nevertheless find it interesting.

This book is a good overview of time travel but not really practical to take with you when you are on the road. I recommend reading it as an overview to the subject--but leaving it in your library at home and instead taking, So You Created a Wormhole with you on all your time travels. Packed with loads of useful information (from building your machine to who to mate with and what weapons you will need) it is a better handbook for your travels. The last chapter of the Handbook, however, called Time Travel for Fun and Profit does have some useful tips not found in other manuals, like the special herbal paste for women so they will look younger. If you find that sexist, you are right. But I think the authors meant for you travel into the past to read that chapter.

This is no handbook or manual! This book is probably good for kids. I got it mainly to see the patents chapter but they did not turn out to be relevant. Check the table of contents before you get this book.
