The third and final installment of the bestselling FATE series
As the adult film sensation, SPICE, Liz Carter was known for her sultry looks, sexy curves, and natural DDs. Years ago, a surprise pregnancy prompted her to leave porn and LA for her native New York where she launched a new life as a single mom and graphic designer. Still, having to hide her past for the sake of her son takes its toll. Staying single and solo is a lonely path but it’s also easier—and safer—than risking being recognized. To fill the void, she forms FATE, an informal meet-up group for former adult entertainers who’ve left the life but find themselves in need of a supportive, safe environment where they can speak freely without fear of retaliation or rejection. The tight knit group of five, which eventually includes her bestie, Sarah (SUGAR), becomes more than friends—family.
FATE is just a few months old when Liz learns she has breast cancer. The decision to have a double mastectomy is agonizing but doing so will give her the best shot at seeing her son grow up. The multiple surgeries and chemotherapy are grueling but with the help of her fellow FATEs, she comes through. Cancer-free for more than a year, she is back from a mother-son vacation to Disney World when she runs across a Facebook message from a former male stripper seeking to join the group. A coffee meet-up to screen the potential newcomer proves to be more than Liz bargained for—a lot more.
Tall, dark, and Irish-American, Sean has her seriously rethinking her “single and solo” status. For the first time since her diagnosis, she feels sort of...sexy—so long as she keeps her clothes on and her scars hidden. Will Liz learn to trust again only to have it—and her heart—broken?
After his sister, an adult film star, dies from an inevitable drug overdose, PhD candidate Sean O’Malley does some digging into the porn-star life and stumbles upon FATE. Curious about the correlation between drug usage and the industry, he contacts Liz—the group’s smart, sexy leader. Hoping to better understand his sister’s life and death, he poses as a former male stripper seeking guidance and support. If he can be accepted into FATE, maybe he’ll get the answers he seeks. But infiltrating the group isn’t easy. Though Sean eventually wins over most of the members, there’s only one flaw in his Liz. But he has work to do and his late sister to think about. He must continue his research. So why does he keep finding excuses to put off finishing it?

Jenna Jameson is an American businesswoman, writer, television personality, and former adult film performer whose name became synonymous with glamour, confidence, and success. Celebrated as one of the most iconic figures in adult entertainment, she rose to fame during the 1990s and early 2000s, becoming one of the few performers to break into the mainstream cultural spotlight. Her success was not limited to the screen; she built a multifaceted career that includes entrepreneurship, authorship, and appearances in television and popular media. She began her professional journey as a model and dancer, entering the adult film industry in the early 1990s. With striking looks, charisma, and an intuitive understanding of the business, she quickly became one of the industry's most sought-after stars. Within a few short years, she had received top newcomer awards from the major adult film organizations and was widely recognized for her talent and screen presence. She went on to win over 35 adult industry awards and earned her place in both the XRCO and AVN Halls of Fame. But Jenna’s ambitions extended far beyond performing. She co-founded the adult entertainment company ClubJenna, which soon became a leader in premium content and production. The company’s first film, Briana Loves Jenna, became one of the top-selling and top-renting adult titles of the early 2000s, demonstrating not only her popularity but also her acumen as a producer and business strategist. Under her leadership, ClubJenna grew into a successful brand, and in 2006, she sold the company in a multimillion-dollar deal that further solidified her status as a savvy entrepreneur. She also made a notable impact on mainstream culture. Jenna appeared on television shows, in films, and in music videos, becoming a recognizable figure far beyond her industry. She was a frequent guest on talk shows and even lent her voice to video games and animated features. Her autobiography, How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale, published in 2004, was a major commercial success and spent several weeks on The New York Times Best Seller list. In it, she opened up about her life with honesty and vulnerability, sharing her experiences, struggles, and achievements in a way that resonated with readers around the world. After retiring from adult film performance in the late 2000s, she continued to reinvent herself. She took on advisory and leadership roles with various dance and performance organizations, made select media appearances, and developed personal projects. At times she returned briefly to modeling, but her focus shifted toward writing, family, and spiritual growth. She explored new paths, including religious conversion and personal wellness, all while staying engaged with her audience through social media and interviews. Her personal life, marked by highs and lows, has also been widely followed. She has experienced the challenges of public relationships, parenting, and health issues, including a rare neurological condition that she publicly disclosed. Through these experiences, Jenna has remained candid, determined, and often humorous, earning admiration for her strength and resilience. Her story continues to evolve, reflecting a woman who refuses to be defined by any single chapter of her life. Jenna Jameson’s influence reaches far beyond her beginnings. She is viewed not only as a pioneer in her field but also as a symbol of independence, empowerment, and reinvention. Her ability to navigate fame, business, and personal transformation with honesty and complexity has earned her a lasting place in contemporary popular culture. She remains a compelling figure, admired by fans and respected by colleagues, for her bold spirit, creative vision, and unapologetic authenticity.
Before I get into this review, I want to take a couple seconds and thank the authors for dealing with breast cancer in such a compassionate and realistic way. As sad as it was to read, I appreciated the honest look at how breast cancer affects a person’s body and self-esteem even after the cancer is gone. It’s a disease that’s glamorized with pink ribbons and witty t-shirts way too often, so this was refreshing.
When I read there is two things I’m looking for: 1. I need to be engaged. 2. I need to fall in love with the characters. This book met both criteria.
Once I started reading I didn’t want to put the book down. The storyline was well thought out and realistic. I enjoyed the interactions between Liz and Sean. It was awesome to get glimpses into both of their minds. It made it easier to understand where they were coming from.
I could relate to the characters and fell in love with them both. I appreciated Liz’s honesty regarding her time as a porn star; she chooses a career she enjoyed, simple as that. Liz is a character that could be anybody. She loves her son more than anything and he influences every decision she makes. Like many single mothers, she’s neglected herself to raise her child.
Then Sean comes along and makes her feel things she hasn’t felt in years. He embraces her and all of her insecurities, making her feel beautiful. He even likes her son! Problem is Sean isn’t telling Liz everything and when his secrets come out, you can imagine she’s not impressed.
The intimacy and I am saying intimacy because it was so much more than just sex was hot. It was also respectful and just naughty enough to keep things interesting.
Overall, Spice was a well-written book with relatable characters and enough drama and angst to keep me interested. I’d recommend it to pretty much everyone who likes a good story with a lot of naughty scenes.
This story had a lot of potential from both the author and the story blurb. A retired porn star, who has a nine year old son and and is a double-mastectomy cancer survivor, is going to school to be a therapist when a stalker threatens to out her and ruin her scholarship. At the same time, Liz starts seeing Sean, casual boxer and psychology PhD posing as an ex-stripper so he can learn more about the adult industry from the inside.
I stopped reading at 50% for two reasons.
The writing was simplistic. It took me a while to figure out why, but it came down to sentence structure. Nearly every sentence sounded the same. "She did this." "He thought that." It made the story feel surface level, and I had a hard time getting into it or caring about the characters.
The two main characters were also hiding something from one another, particularly on Sean's part. And intentionally and continually prolonging the same conflict under the guise of "I'll do it later, when the timing is better" is cheap storytelling.
I wanted to like this, but was ultimately kinda bored.
Spice by Jenna Jameson, is book Three in the Fate Series. This is the story of Liz and Sean. I haven't yet read the previous book so for me this was a standalone book. Liz was once a porn star and her and other porn stars started a support group. One of the big reason Liz quit the business was because she ended up pregnant and wanted to get out to raise her son. But life dealt her another surprise but getting cancer. Now a year after surviving cancer she is just working and raising her son thinking that she is happy solo. But then Sean calls asking about joining the group and he awakes her sexual self back. Sean lost his sister to drugs and porn. So Sean is out to learn what he can about the lifestyle to help he understand her death more and possible closure. So he pretends to be a former porn star to get into the group but he soon starts to have feelings for Liz. Enjoyed the book!
Well done! There are a lot of messages in this romance. It's erotic, but not tawdry. The heroine is a retired porn star who has a nine-year-old son. She's working to revamp her life. She's an amazing single mom and working on building up her digital design business. Her ultimate goal is to become a therapist. She's full of dreams and very aware that she has a past that may find her out. She's also dealing with body image issues that she's working to overcome. There's a lot on her plate. The hero of the story isn't perfect, but he's pretty great and definitely well-intentioned. All in all Spice has a lotting for it including quite a few steamy scenes. If you like a strong heroine, kind (albeit imperfect) hero and aren't afraid of a little (or a lot) of sex, I highly recommend this read.
This is the third and final book of this series. This very poingnant story of a woman trying to reconstruct her life after breast cancer closes all the doors that her career as a celebrated adult entertainer once afforded her. Spice is a book that reads like women's fiction with an erotic twist. Full review pending. Rating 4.5
