With the Adepts: An Adventure Among the Rosicrucians

Rate this book
The narrator of this delightful and instructive tale, written at the turn of the century, escapes to the magnificence of the Tyrolean Alps for a much-needed respite from the angst of his life. There, he encounters a dwarf who seems to understand the dilemmas that cloud his brain. The dwarf leads him to the Brothers of the Golden and Rosy Cross, where he commences monastic study.

Hartmann writes poetically about the beauty of the Alps and skillfully weaves the actual beliefs and practices of the ancient Rosicrucians into a tale that includes magic and an alchemical laboratory, mind-reading dwarfs, and unexpected revelations.

For those who love true wisdom

Very well written and adherent to the way true philosophers use to write to benefit everyone and especially students of the regular and ancient Mystery Schools. The key to the very deep of this book is your heart.

This book is interesting as a historical document on the beliefs of the Rosicrucians, and also asks some interesting questions about existence and the meaning of life. The answers that it provides to these questions have loads or problems, with statements that do not make any sense, outdated moral values, and an elitist view of spiritual life. Still it is a fun read, as long as we don't take it seriously.

This basically explains the same information and suppositions as The Kybalion, but this is in a narrative form. It does take that information a step further in many areas, blending the foundations of hermeticism into a sort of guide for living by a Rosicrucian mentality. Ultimately though there just wasn't much new information and very little in the way of explanation to support the views posited that run beyond the scientific method.

Oh, I can't describe how I feel when I finished the book. Eloquently written, the book is about esoteric encounters the author experienced. My memories about the book did not fade but so vividly retained. One of the few books that is life-changing on me. Highly recommended.
