Lord Ronson Cadogan can stall no longer. He needs an omega and he needs an heir.
Settled on the obvious perfect choice, and determined to see his fate through, Ronson can't afford to wait for the next ceremony to claim what he is owed. If only he was more excited about the match.
They call her the mouse.
Mairwen Posy knows precisely who the Alpha of Bleake Isle will choose, and it certainly isn't her. In fact, it's so predictable it's almost boring.
Resigned to her fate of disappearing into the background, Mairwen takes the role of observer, distracting the ache of being left out with the entertainment of dragonkin society's unfolding stories.
All is as expected, until the sudden twist in a familiar plot sends Mairwen in the least likely direction, right into the arms of the alpha. The Alpha of Bleake Isle is book one in a new dragon shifter fantasy romance series, inspired by the historical and omegaverse genres. Each book in the series will focus on a different couple, and will include their in-book HEA.
Kathryn Moon is a country mouse who started dictating stories to her mother at an early age. The fascination with building new worlds and discovering the lives of the characters who grew in her head never faltered, and she graduated college with a fiction writing degree. She loves writing women were are strong in their vulnerability, romances that are as affectionate as they are challenging, and worlds that a reader sinks into and never wants to leave. When her hands aren't busy typing they're probably knitting sweaters or crimping pie crust in Ohio. She definitely believes in magic.

Thought it might be just a run of the mill Alpha Male ™️ dragon shifter story BUT I FORGOT KATHRYN MOON DONT PLAY THOSE GAMES. Subverted expectations at every turn. A little bit mystery, a lotta bit simping alpha, a lotta bit "my woman is gonna change the world."
Can't wait to read the rest of the series.
(Also, I have a feeling fans of Bride by Ali Hazelwood would enjoy this but I don't know why. Just vibes)
I enjoyed this story! It has a historical, fantasy feel to it.
While the plot is fairly simple, it's brimming with emotion. It’s really a lovely ugly duckling/quiet redemption arc.
Mairwen’s journey, from being overlooked and called “mouse” to becoming someone cherished and chosen, was quite satisfying to read.
One of my favorite details was how Ronson slowly builds this quiet, mental list of all the things that bring her joy: books, compliments, kisses.
There were a few things that pulled me out of the story at times. Some phrasing felt a little awkward, like Ronson claiming he’s “never taken a lover,” despite the fact that he has gone into rut with others. Was this no long-term partners?
My other issue was the Omegaverse elements felt under-explained. The fact that he has a knot is mentioned, but never really clarified or described. And while there’s a fair amount of descriptive language during their intimacy, I still couldn’t tell you what his anatomy is meant to look like, it was oddly vague. Like soft core? Does anyone use that term anymore lol.
The dragon side of things also left me wanting more.
Tropes: Fated Mates Alpha/Omega Dynamics Soft Omegaverse Grumpy Alpha/gentle Omega Ugly Duckling/wallflower Age gap Slow burn Virgin h Protective hero Social hierarchy differences Dragon shifters Historical-Inspired/fantasy setting Marriage of convenience HEA Wonderful epilogue
Overall, this reads like a watered-down Omegaverse blended with a gentle feminist message. I liked the idea that Alpha/Omega dynamics don’t have to be inherently misogynistic. Sometimes strength looks like protection and sometimes submission looks like trust.
at this point, we know the drill. kathryn moon writes a book, and i drop everything in my life and crawl into bed with my kindle to read it in one sitting.
but i gotta say... not a fan of this one. the characters and the relationship was really well written, but two major complaints on everything else going on:
1. this world was so confusing and unnecessarily cruel to women. although i understand it's victorian and old timey, it was so reminiscent of the handmaid's tale. i was so surprised that an author who typically writes such progressive worlds regressed to this? women competing with each other for men and forced pregnancy and 90% of women dying in childbirth and women having basically no rights other than being sex objects. i guess it was supposed to make you love the male love interest and the main character even more for finally attempting to break free of that, but i was sad for all the women in this book and questioning why it had to be that way.
2. i'm gonna be honest.... i'm never here for the plot. and this book had so much of it that wasn't engaging. there's so many other dragons and alphas introduced that i didn't care to keep track of. and because the world was so fucked up, there was a lot of focus on the drama and politics that emerged from it and i just didn't caaaare. i wanted to skim read this book every time ronson (hate his name btw) had to go and deal with the other whiny men. it was also just SO predictable and had zero subtlety or twists. 400 pages was somehow not enough and way too much for what was trying to happen here.
the saving grace of this book was the writing style because everything else fell short of my expectations of kathryn's usual craft. i didn't even accomplish reading this in one sitting because i got bored :( probably won't be continuing this series which is shocking
reread 12.04.25: reread in preparation of the sequel, and i don’t know what hatred infested my heart when i originally rated this 4 stars. this is nothing less than a 5 star read !
I love when an fmc is considered plain and/or ugly, and then the mmc is like “How did I ever consider her plain? She is beautiful.”

REVIEW I really wish the book ended with Mairwen punching her parents in the face, but I appreciated the nuance of parents doing horrendous damage to their child’s wellbeing, yet still (in their own twisted way) having their best interest at heart. Mairwen deserved better, yet she’s able to see that the people who mistreated her are multifaceted.
Ronson was a surprising character. He often reacted or said things in a way that would’ve unintentionally hurt Mairwen out of a desire to protect her from the aforementioned cruelty of their people. I found him to be sweet and charming despite his blunders. He’s may be a bit of an idiot, but he’s no fool!
There were times in the novel that I sped through, and there were times the story kind of dragged. So much time was spent on the formation of alliances and the calculation of where loyalties lie. The politics were so interesting, and then the resolution felt quick and somehow abrupt. I thought the usurpers had a genius plan, but they DID NOT. It was disappointing. Although, not so tragically disappointing that it took away from the romance or build-up of the plot.
I’m excited to see where the world might go from here. There was a lot of reform left to make, but the resolve and influence to make those changes were there. The other alphas were intriguing, and I do hope to see these main characters make appearances in the future.

3.5 stars, rounded up because I couldn’t put this down.
Okay, I’m finally getting back to this review. I enjoyed this dragon-shifter Omegaverse book. The OV aspect is different from other books I’ve read. Here, the designations are gender-bound. There’s only one alpha, who fights for the spot and can win or lose the title. The other designations are gender-bound, with betas being all male and omegas all female.
I felt like the book could have been a bit shorter. The main plot point was the romance, which was verrryyy sweet but quite drawn out. I would have liked a faster pace for the whole book. When we finally got to the drama point, it was very engaging but felt rushed in comparison to how long we spent on the rest of the story. I guess I just wish the pacing had been more even throughout.
No OW/OM drama, no cheating, and no third-act breakup.
This is a dragon, omegaverse with an alpha who’s finally ready to pick his omega, a curvy omega FMC, knotting, fluff, of course smutt, and a really sweet romance. The FMC Mairwen, is an unlikely omega. She was considered the wallflower of the bunch and undesirable to the dim witted betas but not to the alpha. He wants her. I really loved seeing their relationship develop from strangers to friends (who liked to rub each other as all friends do) to lovers. It was a very sweet romance but even without any angst between the two, it still captured my attention and held onto it throughout the book. The world building was also nicely developed. This is a romance focused book/series but it is nice have a clear idea of the world around them and trying to figure out what the outside conflicts could be. I heard each book may have a different vibe to them but anything Kathryn Moons writes I’ll read so I’m excited!
Honestly?? I’m obsessed. I'm not usually a dragon-shifter person, but wow did this Regency-adjacent, filthy-yet-sweet variant really hit the spot.
Concept: ★★★ Plot/Pacing: ★★★★★ Romance: ★★★★★
Calling all fans of dragons, Regency romances, alpha/omega, and soft yet filthy stories...
The Alpha of Bleake Isle is your kind of good time.
As the one Alpha of the Bleake Isle dragonkin, it's Lord Ronson Cadogan's duty to choose an eligible omega once per decade from society as his official rut partner. The fact that Ronson hasn't chosen one in decades is... not going well. The stuffy society Beta men of the island aren't going to let him get away with this odd behavior without a challenge for much longer, and Ronson knows it. So this time, he's made it clear that he intends to pick an omega for the very first time.
Mairwen Posy knows precisely who the Alpha of Bleake Isle will choose, and it certainly isn't her. In fact, it's so predictable it's almost boring. Mairwen, called "Mouse" by society, is a wallflower and observer, cursed to the sidelines due to her lack of perfume and less-than-ideal body shape.
So it shocks everyone when Ronson chooses...Mairwen. (The two of them have their reasons for this choice.)
Now officially "together" with no warning and no preparation, Ronson and Mairwen discover that things on Bleake Isle aren't quite as they should be... and it's up to them to fix it.
But can they fix the rot at the core of Bleake Isle while facing an intense attraction to each other??
Dun dun dun. Cue that sweet, sweet romance set with a heavy dose of spice.
It was no surprise to me that I enjoyed this story—I am obsessed with Kathryn Moon. I'm always going to read what she writes. Always. But I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting to fall utterly in love with this story. The dragon thing tied to the historical vibes...Those are not buzzwords for me as a reader. But then I tried it, and DAMN. I'm into it now. (Or at least, I'm into the version of it that Kathryn's given us here.)
This was sweeter than I expected it to be. This was more plot-filled than I expected it to be. And it was just... perfect. I loved Ronson and Mairwen. I loved the unique spin on the alpha/omega tropes and setup. Every expectation I had was clearly blown away, and I find myself eagerly sitting on my hands now, waiting for news for more in this series/world!
I liked it, especially how Mairwen claims her power. The ending was satisfying. I have hope for the future of this series but it felt like it could have used a bit more refinement. There are parts where the story jumps around and I had no idea why. Later that jump became relevant, but it could have been better.
I also was frustrated by some of the world building. It's so misogynistic. We have hope it's getting better, but even women's power relies on a man to give it to her and I would prefer power to be available to a woman naturally even if patriarchy hides her power.
It was enjoyable enough and I'll keep reading this series.
Safety deets - she's a virgin... he's not a manwhore, but he's used women to help in his ruts. That was distasteful to me how they were nameless, faceless women. - We get to see their HEA. Epilogue very far in the future when their kids are grown. - Consent was good for the most part. He keeps on trying to protect her in a way that would take away her agency but thankfully his family challenges him on his stupidity and he listens.
Dragons? Yes. Alpha/Omega? Yes. Heat/ Rut? Yes. That KMoon magic? Yes!!! This book was everything I wanted in a historical dragon omegaverse and so much more!!
Mairwen is the overlooked and underestimated omega who just wants to live her life without the pressures of family and society. Unfortunately she has been promised to a horrible beta. When the alpha of Bleake Isle offers her a different path, she has a chance to live the life she wants.
Ronson shocks society by choosing the omega no one expected. But he quickly learns Mairwen is maybe his perfect match.
This book had me giggling and swooning the whole read! It was absolutely perfect from start to finish. It had intrigue, lots of spice, and the satisfaction of seeing an overlooked woman prove everyone wrong. I could not get enough of the amazing characters and world!
I am beyond excited that this is the start of a series because there is no way I could let this world go after one book!
I am OBSESSED with this book! I didn't expect to love it this much 😍 Ronson being such a simp for Mairwen is so precious it made me low-key depressed 🤣 I love how much adoration Mairwen and Ronson for each other so much. They're one of those couples that you know are made for one another 🥹
Also 👀 I'd love to read Seamus' book! I was really intrigued by his character and would love to know more of the cheeky pirate!
Rating: 4/5 POV: 1st, Dual Tropes: Fantasy - Dragon Shifter Romance; Found Family; Historical Romance (Victorian Era?); Mark my Mate; "Mine"; Instalove; No 3rd act breakup Heat Level: 5/5 Kinks:
Likes: *Dragon shifters was a fun change
* I really enjoyed that this was a fantasy historical! It made the story even more unique
Dislikes: *Never expected to say something like this but the book literally had no drama between the main characters and it kind of made the story a bit boring.
Conclusion: This was so enjoyable! I loved that the time period was historical. It added something really unique to a fantasy romance. The book was very instalove with literally no drama between the MCs which did add a bit boring aspect to the story but if that's your thing then honestly theres no way this wouldn't be a 5 star read for you. Everything else about the story is so good. Theres decent drama in the "clan". Wasn't too over the top. Spicy scenes were hot and well written. This is a book I would reread and I hope the author continues the series soon.
I read this so fast, my eyeballs ached. And now, I get to go back and read it again, and appreciate just how fantastic this was. Historical fantasy dragon MF OV with some of the hottest, well-written sex scenes in recent memory, and an utterly delightful new world with plenty of secondary characters that made me salivate for more stories. I loved it. LOVED IT. LOOOOOOOVEEEDDDD IT. Loved having Mairwen as a non-traditional slightly curvy/not supermodel FMC and Ronson as a consent-loving alpha mate.
I adored this book and the emphasis on stepping into your power. Mairwen was living in a world that belittled her for being plus size, tall, and bookish. She shrunk herself and kept her sharp intellect close to the chest, until someone came along that cared enough to listen. Ronson was intense and broody, with a decent moral compass. He was socialized, like Mairwen, to believe omegas were lesser and pawns more than people. She proved him wrong and they fell into a very deep emotional love with plenty of physical intimacy. They both learned and grew, becoming better versions of themselves by being together.
Spice: 5/5
Triggers: Fatphobia, misogynistic culture, social ostracism and bullying, attempted sexual assault, discussions about dangerous pregnancies and denied access to birth control, bad parenting, treasonous plots, minor violence, discussion of cruel parent, mention of possible near drowning
I think Kathryn Moon is talented (Lola and the Millionaires is easily the top contender in KU RH omegaverse) but the Alpha of Bleake Isle felt like using racing fuel in a 2015 Camry.
The writing itself is super unoffensive. There's nothing to cringe at--sentences flow, there's a good balance of dialogue versus description, Moon knows when to zoom in and zoom out, there's interesting world-building, there are character arcs and subplots...I mean, in the sea of KU, this is a pearl. If you're hungry for a dragon!shifter romance or some omegaverse, this is going to satisfy your craving.
Sadly, while I can point to a lot of things Moon does well on a technical level, I almost DNF'd. The set-up was a mix of tired familiar tropes (she's the least-wantable omega; her curves do not fit the fashion; she's happiest with her nose in a book) and promise (there's an interesting social hierarchy; there are established customs for omegas/betas/alphas; the FMC is able to see the MMC and her situation objectively without contrived drama). Once the MMC (Ronson) chooses the FMC (Mairwen), I quickly lost interest. She almost immediately goes from being a semi-risky political move to an indispensable partner, lover, and co-ruler.
I have no problem with the fact that Mairwen and Ronson are never at odds. I didn't need friction between the two of them, but I think I needed a longer journey from friends to passionately-in-love soulmates. And also? Less sex. It happened relatively quickly (which does make sense for the narrative; it would have felt clunky to push it off), and even though the set-up had potential, the enthusiastic insta-reactions from both of them felt...unearned? It's hard to explain. I didn't want them to hate being with the other one, but when Ronson almost loses his mind with a single touch? Right away? I can only suspend so much disbelief. I get there's a biological, dragon thing happening, but I wasn't sold. She's a virgin who's never seen male anatomy and he chose her because she was the best of bad options and it's life-changing from the moment his back hits the sheets?
And like I said, if they're not having sex, then they're declaring their love and swooning. Don't get me wrong: I DREAM of novels where the main couple, firmly established, tackles a non-relationship conflict together. It's one of my favorite things. But there's a way to write two people deeply in love that doesn't feel sappy and overdone. It's about the little things. This novel doesn't deal in little moments--it deals in huge ones. I got bored.
The plot didn't grip me, either. It wasn't a bad idea--Mairwen uncovers secrets about dragons that will ultimately improve life for omegas on the island--but I wasn't invested. I liked Mairwen, but I never loved her.
I appreciated that there was a bigger world in play. Moon gave each of her alphas an island, and we'll slowly get to meet more of them. I'm absolutely going to check out each one. She switches up personalities and conflicts with each new book, so I'm sure I'll eventually find one I jive with a bit better.
Man, I just loved this. Utterly loved it. I'm a fan of Kathryn Moon, so I was excited to jump right in to this new series, and I was not disappointed.
This is a sweet omegaverse series - alphas, betas, omegas, knots, ruts, heats. No RH - I think this might have been the first omegaverse I've read that was not RH, honestly. So that was a fun change.
The book is overall extremely sweet and delicious, with lots of steam and low drama. No drama with the couple, really ... just a lovely unfolding of their relationship. Some drama with the douches in town, but it's really a sidebar. This book is about this couple and them finding themselves, their hearts, their lives together ... and digging up truths that were buried in history, likely due to some patriarchal bullshit.
Because it's not a great thing to be an omega dragonkin in this world. They're outnumbered by betas, and so they are treated like prized possessions. They're essentially auctioned off at a selection ceremony every 10 years. Women have no power, no right to refuse. They're broodmares, and birthing dragonkin is extremely difficult, with mothers frequently not surviving (especially if the child is male, and thus born with wings). The betas that have power in the village generally don't care about the women at all - they have a duty to bear children, and that's that. They're expected to die in the doing, and everyone accepts this as how things are.
Alright, the rest of this is going in a spoiler tag --
I'm super excited to see how this plays out across the rest of the series. The author says the next dragon alpha featured with be Torian, a friend of the MMC in this book. I can't wait!
This is the BEST romance!! I was a bit confused before reading when so many reviews mention it’s a sweet, steamy story. Isn’t that an oxymoron? How can a romance be sweet AND steamy? Well…. It can and it is! Amazingly, wonderfully so. Let me explain…
Mairwen grew up as the “cast off” omega in her community. She’s taller and more curvy than the other omegas She isn’t beautiful, her hair is a blah brown and she loves to read. The other omegas nicknamed her “mouse”, a hurtful name that even her parents adopted for her. And, since they don’t think she will ever be anything, they sold her to a nasty old man to marry so they can get out of debt. BUT…. Through some absolutely awesome intrigue, she ends up being taken by the Alpha instead (I promise, it makes sense and isn’t in some miraculous way, it’s completely practical). This surprising turn shocks everyone, but most of all Mairwen!
AND… that leads to the sweet but steamy part. Mairwen is COMPLETELY innocent, so Ronson (the alpha) suggests they explore each other until she is comfortable consummating their union. And that is where all that sweet, but steamy comes in. The author does such a pitch-perfect job of inhabiting both Mairwen and Ronson’s character as she discovers the male anatomy and he slowly teaches her to feel cared for and loved. Oh my goodness, it is so heart-stoppingly beautiful!
Now… y’all know I’m a story driven gal, so yes, once they were a strong couple and were comfortable with each other, I would have much preferred seeing more behind the plots to overthrow the alpha and more of her strength against those who would destroy her, rather than repeated (and repeated) sex scenes. I feel the story, itself, suffered because of it. BUT, it was still everything a romance reader dreams of. So, if you are in the mood for an absolutely heart-melting story where the relationship progresses in a believable but swoon-worthy way. This is absolutely the top of the crop!
Great writing style and world building, but this book bored me to tears. Had to skim the end. No angst and the h really got on my nerves. It was like the author took everything I loved about the Omegaverse dynamic and watered it down and added a feminist message. Nothing against that, just not my cuppa.
DNF 38%. This is dual POV but I can't tell the MMC and FMC apart. Love the premise but all they do is have sex and I'm bored 🥱 the world building is poor and all the politicking is also boring.
KM is back and what a delicious read that was! I was fascinated by the world building in this one and the message at its heart. I am impatient to discover the future books in this series.
Shame on me but what bogged down a bit the book for me was the intimate scenes. They were steamy for sure, but too slow and long winded for me. I preferred the sweet romance between Mairwen (what a lovely name!) and Ronson. I loved how he was her unfailing champion, not just her hero (not that she needed one in the end!) but above all, he believed in her, was so considerate of her at every step of the way, and how he worshipped her so much that he was doing everything in his power to let her have own strength. In brief, the dream male every girl needs!

Reread Loved it even more, rating bumped up to 4.5*
Ronson the dragon Alpha of Bleake Isle has finally decided to partake in the omega selection. For years he's spent his rutbwith humans but he's ready for an Omega and an heir to secure his position as Alpha.
Maureen has been overlooked by her people for years, nicknamed Mouse, she spends her time with her nose buried in a book. An omega without a perfume and considered over the hill, her parents have arranged a pairing with an old beta because they desperately need the money.
One chance encounter set these two on a path to destiny.
******* I loved this book so much on this reread, yes Maureen was overlooked in the beginning but Ronson definitely more than made up for it later on. Even from the moment he actually spoke to Mairwen he was captivated by her but he quickly grew absolutely feral and devoted to his Omega. I'd have liked more punishment to the people just for their treatment of Mairwen over the years but I'm petty like that 😌
No cheating Virgin h H wasn't a manwhore/dragonwhore but he'd been with human women before but never with an omega he almost chose another omega in the beginning No others once he got his girl
original review I absolutely did NOT like the beginning!!!! For the H not to see how awesome the h was, with her reputation in the town ugh it irked me endlessly! The rest of the book is what I expect from this author..... side eye to the beginning
Oh this was a pleasure to read. Our MMC, Ronson, was absolutely devoted to Mairwen. I'm not sure I have read a book with the male that devoted! It was so refreshing. I just loved his character (both characters to be honest). I have struggled with Omegaverse books in the past but not this one! Not sure if its because it felt more like a Regency Historical novel, or because a lot of the book it about changing and bettering the omega/alpha structure. Whatever, it totally worked for me.
This is a bit of an ugly duckling story, in the way that the MFC is pretty much told she is frumpy and mousy (her nickname is mouse) and best left to the background to fade away. Ronson is Alpha of all the drangonkin on this island and has finally decided on his Omega, the perfect woman that everyone expects him to choose, even though she holds no interest for him. Right before the selection, Ronson and Mairwen are thrown together when they discover a plot to assassinate the Alpha, setting a path that will change these two forever.
I highly recommend this if you love Historical, Dragons, Devoted MMCs, lots of praise, relationships built from friendship and respect. Any of these you will find in this book. Along with one of the hottest ‘virgin explores the MMC’ scenes I've probably ever read. Very much looking forward to the future books in this series.
I've never read an omegaverse dragon-shifter romance with regency vibes, but now it's like it's opened up a whole new world? What kind of crack did Kathryn Moon put in this??
All I can say is that I've never read a book where the MMC is a bigger simp than this one. Do with that information what you will.
∞/5 stars imo. Loved. Ate it up. Need the second book ASAP.
Sooo many people recommend this one! I went into it with fairly high expectations and was super interested in the premise.
Now, this is technically my first omegaverse book (not including anything I read on Wattpad, since I really can’t remember what those were all about). I still don’t really understand how omegaverse works (and am lowkey scared to find out 🫣), so this might not have been a good introduction to the sub genre.
At the beginning I was EATING THIS UP. I love an alpha shifter romance, like I really really do. So with how mysterious and brooding and powerful the alpha was at the start - I was sat.
I was really enjoying the vibes and story until about 60-70% through. This is when the storyline took a turn and started trying way too hard. The characters also changed so much, especially the alpha with how sappy he became…
So in the beginning, the world is very male dominated (Alphas/Betas) with women (Omegas) basically being used as brood mares. Other people might have issues with this, but sometimes I enjoy a read with this premise (sue me). Only the males have wings and can fly, with only a subset of those males being able to turn into dragons (no idea how this is decided). My issues came in when the author thought to change the entire structure of society after about five minutes. I’m going to try to explain my issues with this, but it’s hard to do without explaining most of the storyline so bear with me…
😈 spoilers below 😈
The brooding macho alpha (who is secretly a good guy surprise surprise 🙄) choose a wallflower girl as the one he wants to impregnate. *cue shock and awe from the villagers*. The girl (who is decidedly not like other girls because she likes to read, is tall, and has D cup boobs) then goes with him to the castle where a bunch of random things happen so they can’t fuck before the alpha has his rut (basically 2 weeks of insatiable horniness that results in a male child). BUT! Before the rut the alpha realizes he doesn’t want the special girl to die in childbirth (because literally everyone does), so his rebel sister offers her this tea (because it’s always tea) to prevent conception (but we don’t know if she chooses to drink it or not *gasp*). Then the rut happens (with surprisingly little detail…) and then after they just go about life and have a lot more sex. They meet some other alphas (a pirate anyone?), have a horrible dinner party, and learn that omegas used to have wings about 1000 years ago. Hurrah. At this point there’s some sort of coupe and they learn that if the alpha bites the omega they become mates (wow! shock! awe!).
Now here is where I get really annoyed 😐 (also major spoilers) after the bite the omega grows wings and can turn into a dragon. Are. You. Kidding. Me. I will admit that at the first omega dragon shifting scene where she drags that bitch Palmer out to sea to die I was kicking my feet. But afterwards I was pissed. You’re telling me that not only was this girl not like the others™️, but she uncovered a secret history, grew wings, and can now turn into a dragon? Bullshit. Bull fucking shit. THIS IS TOO MUCH! There are too many tropes and society changes and plot ideas thrown into one book. I can’t handle it. I wanted a silly little alpha/omega story where the town had to grow to accept the weird girl, the alpha had to learn to love or trust or something, and the girl had to figure out that there’s strength in being a wallflower. But no. Instead I had to have miss girl turn into a dragon and LITERALLY SAVE THE ALPHA (who is like 100 years old and the most powerful guy on the island) from the coupe people??? No. No no no. Please no!
😀 end spoilers 😀
Also, the epilogue was dumb - which to me is a mortal sin.
A few positives (since I don’t want to be a total bitch) 1. The smut was good. I loved the exploring each other scenes and how infatuated they were with each other. They made me hate being single more than I already do. 2. Ronson (whose name I hate) had some good lines. 3. The writing was better than I thought it would be. Some scenes I couldn’t track how one persons arm could bend like that, but they’re dragons so maybe they’re extra bendy? 4. The half brother.
Alas, maybe I need to lower all of my expectations and just accept that most books are vibes only now…
Almost quit when he was mooning over Adelaide in the beginning. I think he would have picked her if he hadn’t overheard that conversation about overthrowing him
But after that it’s really good.
Wish this author wrote other books that are not RH. seems like RH is it for her though other than this one so this will be it for me from her.

This is really good. The writing, the characters, the romance is all on point as is to be expected from Kathryn Moon. I didn't love this as much as I was hoping to, however I am absolutely still invested and want to read more from this world.
I am not a historical romance reader, and this is absolutely a historical romance with dragon shifters and a different take on omegaverse. I didn't care for the political and high society parts. And there wouldn't have been a plot without those parts. I would have had no problem reading about Ronson and Mairwen in the castle the whole book.
There is explicit sex, but the flavor of it was more romantic and soft, and the language used was more poetic. The scene of their first night together when Mairwen explores Ronson was magical. I really liked how quickly Ronson was on Mairwen's side and interested in learning every detail about her he could. Their dynamic was flirty and sexy and simply wonderful.
3.5 stars. This story had a rough start, but it did get better and better as I kept reading. I especially loved the ending when the heroine finally started showing her backbone and became the strong leader she was always meant to be. I did have a hard time with the middle of the story that essentially turned into a smut-fest, it didn’t fully hold my attention because it felt somewhat never-ending at times. Still a good read, and I’m really looking forward to the next book of this series.
I’m loving these typically reverse harem authors who branch out and write MF romances. I want more!
Safety is good Virgin heroine Hero not a manwhore Hero has been with human women in the past during his ruts, but never another omega. None of these women are named or in the story. OW drama: hero originally plans to choose someone else as his rut partner, but ultimately chooses the heroine in a last minute decision This causes a lot of self-doubt in the heroine because she doesn’t feel like she was ever the hero’s first choice OM drama: heroine is engaged to become an omega to a much older man, he tries to rape her, but doesn’t succeed. Hero is very jealous/possessive No scenes with OM/OW No cheating
