The feud between Detective Rick Andrews and Sara Michaels is legendary and no one ever wants to stand in the line of fire when they go at it. Despite the feud, everyone knows Rick and Sara fell in love in love the day they met - only they just keep making war not love. Their latest battle is over the Gencor case and Sara’s role as town prosecutor. Watching Sara buckle under the burden of the crushing case arouses Rick’s protective streak Big Time and he wants her off the case, out of the prosecutor’s office and back in private practice so he can enjoy seeing her tilted smile a lot more often, even if it isn't directed at him.
During a roadside arrest over her reckless driving caused by stress over the case, Rick finally takes Sara in hand. The HOT encounter includes frisking, spanking, cuffing and later a shattering first kiss. Rick thought Sara was too independent to submit to a 24/7 domestic discipline arrangement, but once he sees her submissive side, he commits to taking her in hand with strict discipline as well as his own brand of dominant lovemaking. Now Sara has tasted what it is like to be in Rick’s care, she wants to surrender to his discipline and her own desires, but she fears she will earn more severe punishments from her rebellious streak and miss her independence.
Can Sara defer to his discipline and can Rick learn to rule her in a way she can accept? Follow the fireworks and the fire between this feisty couple as they enjoy a happy for now ending.
Her Keeper is an erotic romance with explicit sexual content. It has a hot cop (two actually), sexy frisking, spanking, cuffing, anal play, a crazy, hot proposition and two people who are stubbornly in love.
Writing is my great love. I finally made time to devote to it in 2013 and self-published my debut novel, Chances and Choices. Since then I have gone on to write my best-selling ongoing e-serials Her Keeper and Intimate Knowledge, as well as HIS By Design, the erotic version of Chances & Choices. In 2015, I published the first book in my Hope Junction Series, The Rancher’s Woman, with Stormy Night Publications.
I am a Canadian, currently living in England. As well as my writing, I am an international teacher. I have worked in many different countries where I have had the opportunity to participate in their culture and make wonderful friends. Before teaching, I was a photographer in the Canadian Air Force. In those days women were scarce in the military and we were lucky to have our pick of so many alpha men. I married one of them and we were blessed with our beautiful daughter. As a mother and a (very, very young) grandmother, I treasure time with my family.
I write stories I love to read. My students will tell you I am cynical but the fact is - scratch a cynic and you find a romantic underneath! So I really am a romantic at heart and write and devour romance of any kind. Naturally I write romantic love stories. I love strong yet nice guy, tender heroes – the bad boy has never really grabbed me – well okay maybe once or twice but I never let him hold on for that long!
I have been lucky to teach media and film for years and l am a big fan of romantic comedy, as well as crime and supernatural films and television. I particularly love the ones with a great enduring love story mixed with intrigue where they are friends as well - like Bones and Vampire Diaries. My love stories are a combination of these - enduring friendships and feuds, romance, alpha males, strong females, bad boys and girls we love to hate, along with cast of characters and a dollop of tongue in cheek humor here and there. My other characters will often have their own love stories in their series while still following the original couples.
I love magazines, fashion and the world of film and television so that is where the action is set in my Choices Series. Hot cops are a turn on and thrillers intrigue me so I explore these in my Detectives & Desires Series. I also spent a number of years in the Canadian Rockies and the ranchlands of Alberta and that has inspired my Hope Junction Series with Stormy Night Publications. It is set in a small town in the Wyoming Rockies.
I also have a series of stand-alone short stories planned around The Raffertys - a family with hot alpha males and feisty women who we first met in Intimate Knowledge and Her Keeper. Look out for the first in the series, Her Forbidden Spring. In addition to Her Forbidden Spring, I’m working on the next episodes in my e-serials as well as the next book in the Hope Junction Series.
I enjoyed this far more than I thought I would. when I started reading this book and discovered it was written in first person, present tense I was immediately put off as it's something I really dislike in my fiction. Fortunately Helen Karol is a great writer and after the first few chapters I barely noticed it and the story flowed brilliantly.
This was a very fun, whirlwind, kinky romance. The heroine was feisty and the Dom super hot. There were some panty melting scenes as well as really sweet tender moments and I enjoyed both. I've read a lot of dark romance/ erotica recently and this was a lovely change. I really rooted for these two and was pleased to see them get a HFN.
I just have to give special mention to the arrest scene... there are no words. I'll definitely be re-turning to this scene for some bedtime reading. I'm really glad I read this and I'd like to read more from Helen Karol in the future.
* I received a copy of this book from the author through the BDSM group on Goodreads in exchange for an honest review.
I can't say much...you sure know how to write well Helen...
Finally...a complete book There's nothing much to say cuz its as good as Intimate Knowledge pt 1-3 boxed set as I've reviewed, even better because its a complete book :) But as always, the author sure knows how to end the story and make readers yearn for the next book/instalment.
*Hot steamy sex/seduction/play *SPANKINGS!!! (yay) *includes punishment spankings* (double YAY!!!) *Female main character which is not just a MERE submissive (she's feisty with an attitude which makes her submissive side a much bigger turn on) *Male character which solves her attitude with style *Awesome plot *2 POV's *No obvious grammatical error or so (Not that I'm aware of because I WAS too engrossed in the story to find out the mistakes)
Btw just sayin... how does Luke dare says he love Raisa and cheats behind her with Lisa and is jealous that Raisa sleeps with Leo Gold... I really hope Raisa won't even fall for him, not even once (please tell me I'm right...)
Now I need to look for the sequel or find another story to keep this one out of my head O_o
p.s. I got this book from the author in the bdsm group in exchange for honest review. (Thank you very much Helen for letting me read and review this book and Intimate Pleasures pt1-3 as well...both series were awesome and is looking forward to reading the sequels)
If domestic discipline is your thing, then try this book, the writing is great and the story is interesting
In truth I am conflicted about Her Keeper 1-4. Helen Karol is a great writer, and I thought I would enjoy the premise of the story, however once I delved into the series I struggled with the dynamic of Rick and Sara's relationship. Just too much domestic discipline for me :D
The author explores the emerging emotions cleverly weaving the story between each protagonists point of view told in first person accounts and unfolding present events and past histories with skill.
I am not generally keen on stories told in the first person, but Helen Karol's gift for writing made the words flow and I was quickly caught up in both Rick and Sara's perspectives.
I guess where the book failed me, is that I read kink to be turned on, and whilst I have no problem reading all flavours of BDSM and D/s (both M/F and M/M), I think my personal preferences must lie outside domestic discipline because it just didn't work for me.
I really did not appreciate Rick's endearment to Sara of 'little girl'. Her endearment for Rick of 'jackass' on the other hand seemed much more appropriate. I guess this sums up my struggle to enjoy the story, I found Rick to be too overbearing and frankly a bully. Admittedly one person's bully is another's alpha male and my views are clearly in a minority,
I was given a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.
Rick Andrews has lusted after Sara Michaels for years but she has love-hate feelings for him after he humiliated her by spanking her in front of his frat buddies eight years ago. Rick would be interested in a relationship but doesn't think sara would go for the type that he wants - a 24/7 domestic discipline one. Things change however when Sara is caught speeding and Rick is the arresting officer. Now he has her right where he wants her - under his control, but will she stay there willingly?
The story is written in first person and told in both points of view. This is hard to do but the author manages it admirably.
I enjoyed this story and will read more of it and the related ones as they seem intertwined. I particularly liked how Sara is an intelligent woman and doesn't fall into insta-love and submission but fights back against Rick's control. One can see plenty of fireworks in the future as Rick and Sara work out their relationship.
I received this book free through the BDSM R2R group in return for an honest review
Man I just don’t know. Summary sounded so intriguing with the rivals to lovers vibe but dude feels like a massive red flag and the lack of safe words or enthusiastic consent for such was just an ick.
I loved this read. We are introduced to the characters in this book. Rick is a hot looking, totally sex on legs detective with an American police force and Sara is a solicitor, who has the hots for Rick, but who holds a grudge since he spanked her backside when they were both at college. She is a sub, and he is a Dom, she's just not aware she's a Dom, and herself a sub, until he catches her after a serious traffic violation, and he decides to take her in hand and reach her a server lesson. She finds herself loving being in Ricks control, and somehow finds herself agreeing to a year long sentence of being under his command , in a effort to save her career, as a traffic offence as bad as she's committed will result in her loosing her job.
The sexual chemistry between these two is palpable, I loved the whole story and could feel for both. Ricks frustration with Sara's recklessness in regard to her own well being and frustration with why she insists on fighting him. Once she's taken to task, she becomes malleable and compliant. I was not happy with the dripping vagina description, as I'm not aware of anyone who could be so turned on, and was a bit repulsed by this description, and it felt like Rick used corporate punishment to keep her in line rather than a conceptual agreement between consenting adults. Is this not verging on abuse?
I was given the book by the author as part of the BDSM r2r TBR for an honest review for the follow on book to this read. I need to read this in preparation to read the next short follow on read.
Her Keeper is spinoff of Intimate Knowledge by Helen Karol, the first in a serial. Luke Kincaid, former partner of Raisa Gordon, reappears as the best friend of Rick Andrews, the alpha male Detective of a small town in New Hampshire on Lake Andrews, named for his family who have live there more than two centuries. Sara Michaels is the town prosecutor, granddaughter of another town founding father and daughter of missionary parents, on a mission of her own going head to head with the town's leading company for the improprieties. Friends in common, careers intermingled, yet these two are at odds constantly because resentments, desires and fears run deep, eight years deep. These two literally collided in college and the rift and undercurrent has been strong between them ever since. This is the first part of the serial and I look forward to see where it goes. Will Sara let her resentment for Rick and public humiliation go? Will Rick give in and explore with Sara? Sara is reckless and this raises Rick's hackles and the alpha male emerges. The only question is, will it all blow up or blossom? This first installment in the serial proves to be some good reading, bound to be filled with twists, for sure.
